This article refers to the assembly in Southern Niploma

Assembly

The Southern Niploma Assembly was planned for several years and was, in theory by some groups, fought for for nearly half a century. It is designed to give roughly ten million people a voice in a legislature and attempt to crush the violence by offering an alternative - democracy.

Currently the Assembly is situated in Khurun, a large industrial city in 'southern' Niploma. Prior to current usage the building was a law court. Indeed, the current hall where the Assembly is situated was a previous law court. Such, it has conections that as it has punished criminals in the past and created a fair society so it will do now.

The Assembly is part of previous PM Robert and current PM Torin's views that democracy, not centralization is the key way to deal with hightened seperatism. In the signatory piece known as,'Path to Democracy' several heads of unionists, seperatists and other national parties agreed to the piece. Eventually it became a Bill and passed through Parliament. It created an Assembly in the south that would eventually become a real legislature. Currently it is merely a forum for discussion and faux Bills. However, the Assembly can be dismissed by the PM - this is mainly a stick measure of the 'carrot and stick' approach for it is to deter agressive action within the Assembly.

There are 100 Assembly members known as, 'South Niploma Assembly Members' or 'AM' for short. They are elected on a quartly annual basis unless stated otherwise. There is universal suffrage for election. The AM's are elected from fifty constituencies (one AM to each) and the remaining 50 by closed-list popular vote. This is similiar to national elections and is known in political science as, 'Mixed-member proportional representation'. The first election was held on 5rd June 2006 and results came in early on the 6th. The first sitting will be on Monday 12th June.

Oath of Allegiance

Every AM member must take the 'oath of allegiance' prior to entering the hall. It is as follows:

I, (enter name here), promise to represent all citizens in a fair and just manner. I will commit myself to democracy and continue the ongoing fight against violence. Nothing will stand in my way for my truthful representation of all people in south-Niploma, whatever their political views. (optional) So help me God(s)
