California - Entering the 21st Century A New Nation

California - History (1541-1999)

For the Early history of California predating its indepenence from the United States of America, go here: History of California to 1999.

California - The Second Republic (1999-2259)

The nation now known as the Californian Sovereign Democratic Commonwealth was officially founded on November 19, 1999 by the Democratic-Socialist Party of California after several disputes with the state of California and the United States government lead to the Democratic-Socialist Party's falling out with the Republican dominated government on political ideals and the future of California ultimately causing California to declare its independence from the United States creating the Democratic People's Republic of California. In December of 1999, the five states of Alaska, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Hawaii seceded and joined the Californian Union. In the months before the U.S. Presidential Elections in 2000, the states of New Mexico, Arizona, Idaho and Colorado joined California's union to make a total of ten states.

After setting up the Parliament, three prominent parties (Democratic-Socialist, Centrist, and Republican) rose to fill the seats of the Parliament, and after elections took place the Democratic-Socialist Party of California took an astounding 337 seats becoming the main influence of Californian politics.

Afterwards the United States sent diplomats into California which by the year 2009 the Californian Union was composed of California, Alaska, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, New Mexico, Arizona, Idaho, Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming and a treaty was established declaring California a nation seperate from that of the United States. Shortly after the Los Angeles-St. Louis Treaty was signed President Gill M. Freidman left office and was replaced by the new elected president Jared W. Benson, who supported the United States's opinion of keeping peace with the Rep. of California and opening diplomatic relations. During this time the relations betwen California and the rest of the world grew and nations began forming trade coalitions and the such with California. President Benson served two terms as U.S. President and was replaced by the next elected president former Mississippi Senator David G. Maddox.

Shortly after his inauguration, U.S. Pres. Maddox amended the twenty-second amendment of the United States Constitution with the fifty-first stating "As long as the popular vote is in favor of the elected president, s/he may remain in power until the popular vote is swayed to another presidential candidate." Later, in the middle of what would have been the second year of Maddox's term on March 15, 2010, Pres. Maddox disbanded the Congress of the United States and declared himself Lord David G. Maddox of the United States, and the United States spiraled into a dictatorship. This brazen act by the U.S. President forced several U.S. States to secede and to join the Republic of California.

Five months later on August 1, 2011 former Californian Senator Sandra M. Devnostræva was elected President, a day later Lord Maddox declared war on the Democratic People's Republic of California to try and force the nation back into the United States of America and the Second Civil War began. On August 18, 2011 after marshalling an army totalling 2,540,000 California declared war on the United States dividing the army into the Northern, Central and Southern Divisions, the Northern and Southern Divisions fanning out north to the Ohio River and south to the Gulf Coast while the Central Division spearheaded to Washington D.C.

After the Central Division surrounded Washington DC and gave the ultimatum for surrender, Lord Maddox refused the terms and on July 3, 2021 the Sovereign Californian Armed Forces struck Washington D.C. with an Electro-Magnetic Diffusion warhead. A day later Californian forces crossed the Potomac River into Washington DC, to accept Lord Maddox's surrender, a meeting was held in Arlington, Virginia with the Presidents of the Federated Republic of New York and Jersey, the Federated States of Sovereign California and the Elentári of the Eternal Noldorin Empire of Menelmacar to determine the future of the United States of America. After much deliberation the Devnostræva-Fëanor Accord was signed giving the Sovereign Federation of California (FSSC) everything west of the Devnostræva-Fëanor Line giving the Democratic People's Republic of California the states of West Montana, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana and the Canadian and Mexican Provinces captured by Californian forces during the Second Civil War. The Fed. Rep of New York and Jersey (NYNJ) acquired the states of Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Massachussetts and the remaining states were organized into the Federated Menelmacari States of America (FMSA) which were occupied and administered by the Eternal Noldorin Empire of Menelmacar on July 9, 2021.

Since then the following territories have been added as states to the Californian Union: Alberta, Bahamas, Baja California, Bermuda, British Columbia, Campeche, Chihuahua, Espaniola (Hispaniola), Hidalgo, Labrador, Mexico, Jamaica, Phoenix Islands, Rio Grande, San Mateo, Sinaloa, Sonora, Virgin Islands, Yucatan and Yukon Territory bringing the total of states within the Californian Union to thirty-eight.

Also four republics have been incorporated as parts of the Californian Union: Abyssinia, Iran, Oman, and Yemen.

California - The Third Republic (2259-2XXX)

The Third Republic or Californian Nationalist Federation as it came to be known in the following years was announced on September 18, 2259. Acting President Jennifer Angeline Jourgensen announced to the people of the Californian Federation that their leader had been killed as a result of a Federalist terrorist attack on the capital building and through her position as Vice President of California that she had been chosen by the members of the Californian Parliament to succeed Alexa S. Vassaretti as Californian President.

After taking the Oath of Office on September 20, 2259 she announced intentions to rebuild the Californian Government Plaza site and to rename it The Alexa Sharon Vassaretti Plaza in dedication to the nation's fallen leader.

On August 1, 2261 during the election for the Californian Parliament, the pact between the Democrats and Socialists responsible for the union of the Democratic-Socialist Party dissolved, costing the Socialist Party its majority representation in both houses of Parliament. Following the sound defeat of the Socialist Party — which after being slammed by critics in both houses as being at fault for the nation's current problems — a new pact was formalized between the Democratic and Nationalist Parties creating the new Democratic-Nationalist Union (DNU), gaining the majority of seats in both houses. With the new era of politics within California's government, things were about to drastically change — and for the first time in more than two-hundred and fifty years, this change was one that was long overdue and welcomed.

On August 29, 2261, Californian President Jennifer Angeline Jourgensen announced via the Californian Parliamentary press agencies that the Californian Sovereign Democratic-Socialist Federation will become the Californian Sovereign Democratic-Nationalist Federation as of December 31, 2261. With this move, any and all foreign relations with nations that were considered as Anti-Californian were severed and the nation's military forces went into Conditional Offensive Strategic Alignment throught the mainland and its overseas departments.

After a series of setbacks and military misadventures under the Democratic-Socialist Party, the Californian populace demanded change, and with it, a new President. Accepting responsibility for the military conflict resulting from the failed attempt at annexing Canada, President Jennifer Angeline Jourgensen resigned the Presidency to her Vice President, Natalie Sarah Kensington.
