The Spartan War was a war fought mainly between the Earth II nations of Kreynoria and Sparta Dominion, with Huahin and Nikalaos the Great providing minor support to the respective combatants. The war began when Sparta Dominion accused Kreynoria of masterminding a nuclear bombing plot against Cotland. Kreynoria prepared for war.

After paying Cotland for the use of the Suez Canal, Kreynoria sent a fleet of 288 ships into the Mediterranean, carrying a force of 800,000 men, over 70,000 vehicles, and 1,500 aircraft to invade Sparta. Nikalaos the Great, being a Greek nation, refused to let the Kreynorian force pass through the Bosphorus. The invasion force took a detour route through the territories of The Lightning Star, Elephantum, and Andrehervia.

The attack was code-named Operation Forlorn Hope and the army was placed under the joint command of Field Marshal George Bryennius and General Manuel Lascaris. They faced the Spartan army of 12 million men under the command of Generals Agammemnon and Menelaus. However, most of the Spartans' equipment was outdated and the Kreynorian troops had better training.

Forlorn Hope was initated with an aerial attack by several hundred stealth bombers. The bombers targeted a section of the Spartan border defenses and all of the major airfields. The capital of New Sparta was also firebombed. In addition, thirty elite Black Commandoes were dropped on the capital to attempt to assassinate the two Spartan kings.

The attack was a major success; a large hole was opened in Sparta's border defenses, much of the Spartan air force was destroyed on the ground, and New Sparta suffered major damage. The Kreynorian air force suffered only light losses The commandoes infiltrated the Spartan royal palace and wiped out the palace guards, but the kings had already been evacuated by armored train. The commandoes utilized the capital's loudspeaker system, based in the palace, to encourage an uprising by Sparta's helot slaves. After that, they adopted the disguises of Spartan Royal Guards and boarded a train full of guards.

Meanwhile, the ground attack was initiated. The Spartans had pulled forces from other sectors to fill in the breach, thus weakening the rest of the line. A diversionary attack was launched against the breach by Field Marshal Bryennius while the main attack, under General Lascaris, attacked a segment of the line to the west. The Kreynorians enjoyed air superiority throughout the attack, and the battle ended in Spartan retreat. The Kreynorians suffered about 1,300 deaths, while the Spartans suffered 3,800 dead and 11,000 wounded. The Spartans tried to fire two radiation missiles, but these were intercepted by Kreynorian laser defense satellites. In despair, they launched several waves of cruise missiles, dealing about 1,500 casualties to the Kreynorian army. Meanwhile, Huahinian forces, better trained in winter warfare the Kreynorians who were used to a Pacific climate, entered the frey.

Nikolaos the Great also entered the war on the side of Sparta Dominion, sending a wave of aircraft to attempt to remove Kreynorian air supremacy. They also sent ground forces to help the Spartans plan their strategy and fortify their capital.

The disguised Black Commandoes struck, killing General Agammemnon, but were all killed by waves of Spartan Royal Guards. Meanwhile, Nikolaon forces, with their country undergoing civil war, were forced to withdraw before they ever actually entered combat. The Kreynorians, tiring of the pointless war, began a withdrawal. The Spartans launched every missile they had, killing several thousand Kreynorian soldiers. However, orbiting satellites left a "parting gift" to the Spartans: they fired a volley of tungsten rods that destroyed two-thirds of the Spartan capital and killed tens of thousands of soldiers and tens of millions of civilians. The war then ended, with no real winner, and without an official declaration nor an official peace treaty.
