Overview
The Cogidubnus of Grumioland is a massive, socially progressive nation, renowned for its devotion to social welfare. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 1.736 billion are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whoever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, liberal, socially-minded government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of the Environment, Education, and Social Welfare. The average income tax rate is 100%. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.
The military frequently holds bake sales to raise funds, students are known to arrive at school in their pyjamas, retirement homes are often fitted with luxurious suites, and children are raised bilingual from an early age. Crime is totally unknown. Grumioland's national animal is the hedgehog, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the ancilla.
Geography
Grumioland is an immense and lush country consisting of three diverse climates. The north is mountainous with heavy snowfall throughout the year, making it a prime location for Grumioland's several prized ski resorts. The west of Grumioland predominantly consists of villages and towns, many of which are heavily supported by Grumioland's excellent welfare system. The east is home to Servus, the capital of Grumioland, as well as several other populous and cultured cities such as Salvius, Metella, Clemens, and Quintus. The south arguably contains the best Grumioland has to offer: miles and miles of forest, divided down the middle by the River Afer and dotted with a few villages on the western side.
Political System
Grumioland has a far left-wing government and populace, although many indigenous villagers live by their own local laws. Abortion and gay marriage are legal, atheism is common, and an income taxation of 100% is in effect to fund Grumioland's education, health care, welfare, and mass-transportation programs.
Grumioland's government consists of the legislative, executive and judicial branches. The executive branch consists of a small Council of 5 elected officials rather than one president or prime minister. One person on the Council must be a representative elected by the indigenous population, and everyone on the Council must have had at least 3 terms serving on Parliament.
Parliament consists the legislative branch. There are two representatives for each province of Grumioland: Loquax and Anti-Loquax, urban provinces in the east; Felix, which constitutes the eastern side of River Afer and the southwesternmost part of Grumioland; Rufilla, which lies in the west and midwest, and Barbillus, which encompasses the mountainous region of Grumioland.
The judicial branch consists of too many courts to name, although lawsuits are very rare; crime is totally unknown, there are extensive safety measures on products, and corporations are almost nonexistent.
Origin
Grumioland was founded in late 2004. It belonged in Lots of Grapes at first, but later moved to Union of Independent States. Grumioland is now in the Union of Independent Nations, the successor region to the Union of Independent States.
