The theory of the Spelltouched was first developed long ago, by wizard researcher of forgotten name. According to his studies, a creature who has been target of a spell sometimes finds that some of it's magic rubs off on it permanently, leaving an echo of the original spell. A creature who is victim of several shape-altering spells, for example, may develop the unique ability to alter it's features into the specific form it is most familiar with. Beneficial spells may linger around a creature like magic radiation, bestowing and advantage somehow related to the original spell. In contrast, some have a homeopathic reaction to hostile spells; by suffering the effects of a spell, they develop a countermeasure to it.

The artificial process through which Spelltouched creatures are spawned is very complex, and it puts at risk the life of the target creature. The subject is placed inside an Ethereal Vat, where raw magical energies are pumped into their bodies. The ether works as fertilizer for the magic to expand and gain power, as well as granting a mean to keep it concealed. The rate at which the energies are pumped must be adjusting depending on many aspects, such as the size, fortitude and natural resistance to magic of the subject. As the energies pour over the body, part of them is left on it, generating a permanent connection between the subject's life force and the magical force. This gives birth to various Spelltouched effects, that differ depending on the type of magic used.

Examples of Spelltouched creatures are the SpellClone, military unit widely used by the Magocentric Triumvirate of Technocratic Republics. Furthermore, accidents occurred during Spelltouched research led to the discovery of a new field, Ethereal Infusion.
