Vassfforcia is divided into 17 states, each with the same constitutional status on the federal level but with different home laws, hence there are four kinds of subdivions, the Principality, the Province and the City-State. There are two Special Administrative Areas which are not part of the Vassfforcian federation but are part of the Vassfforcian teritory; they exist because these territories are considered of strategic importance to the Most Serene Republic or are colonies.

Principality

These are those states which were founded before the Constitutional Reform of 1952 and are in charge of a noble House. In these states the executive is divided into two figures, a noble who is head of state and an elected Provincial Chancellor who is head of government. The legislative takes the form of the Junta General (General Council) which elects the chancellor and, depending on the state laws, may or may not elect the head of state (as the post may be inherited).

Province

These are those states which were founded after or during the Constitutional Reform of 1952 because of economic reasons. In these states the executive has the title of Presidente del Gobierno Provincial (President of the Provincial Government) and is elected by the general population for a five year period. The legislative takes the form of the Asamblea Provincial (Provincial Parliament).

City States

These cities are those cities which are states on themselves. There are two, Vassfforcia la Serenísima, the nation’s capital, which has had been a state on its own since before the Constitutional Reform of 1952. Puerto Nuevo, which was founded on the late 40s instead of increasing Prubdablia and Filibustenia’s capacity (as it would have made the cities more crowded) and since the beginning it was planned as an independent state.

  • Vassfforcia la Serenísima: It functions as a principality on its internal government.the executive is the Grand Duke, through the title of Count of Vassfforcia, but most Grand Dukes let the Junta General (General Council) elect another executive who takes the post as Viscount of Vassfforcia.
  • Puerto Nuevo: It functions as a province on its internal government with a Presidente del Gobierno as executive elecetd by universal vote for a five-year period.

Provinces of Overseas

These are those states which were founded after the Constitutional Reform of 1952 and are excolonies. In these states the executive has the title of Gobernador (Governor) and is elected by the general population for a five year period. The legislative takes the form of the Asamblea Provincial (Provincial Parliament). There is also a Liutenant-Governor, who is the representative of the Grand Duke and is personally named by him and ratified by the local legislative.

Almeira, an archipelago located in Santiago Strait at about 200 km north of Sancium.

Special Administration Area

These are territories that do not form part of the Vassfforcian federation but are considered integral part of the sovereign territory of the Most Serene Republic. These territories are considered to be of strategic importance to the country thus there are important bases of the Armada de Ultramar. They are directly under control of the federal government and the Grand Duke directly names a Governor-General (usually the military commander in the area), who is responsible of the administration of the territory.

States' Subdivisions

Provinces, Provinces of Overseas and Principalities are divided into Comarcas, Villas and Puertos according to the characteristics of the region.

The City States are only divided into Barrios.

Comarca

Comarca is the Spanish word for region. In Hyarmendorean-, French- and Catalan-speaking regions they are called Pays. A region is called Comarca as long as at least 50% of the region's population makes a living from agriculture, daily or forest related industries and more that 60% of the region's surface is not urbanized.

A Comarca is further subdivided into Pueblos (called Bayle on Hyarmendorean, Bourgade on French and Pouble on Catalan). Pueblos are only administrative subdivisions of the Comarca, made according to traditional relations between the communities. The chief-town of a Comarca receives the name of Corregiduría on Spanish, Correchidurýa on Hyarmendorean and Corregideurie on French and Catalan.

In Almeira every comarca is one of the islands of the archipelago.

Villa

Villa is a Spanish word for little city. In Hyarmendorean-, French- and Catalan-speaking regions they are called Ville. A region is called Villa when more than 50% of the region's population makes a living from industry or services or less than 60% of the region's surface is not urbanized.

A Villa is further subdivided into Barrios. Barrios are only administrative subdivisions of the Villa, made according to the traditional neighborhoods and districts of the city. A Villa is ruled from the Ayuntamiento.

Puerto

Puerto is a Spanish word for port. In Hyarmendorean-, French- and Catalan-speaking regions they are called Port. A region is called Puerto when it is located on the coast and more than 40% of the region's population make a living from industry or services and at least 30% from activities related to the sea, less than 60% of the region's surface is not urbanized and the city has a port which can haven ships of at least 10'000 tons.

A Puerto is further subdivided into Barrios. Barrios are only administrative subdivisions of the Puerto, made according to the traditional neighborhoods and districts of the city. A Puerto is ruled from the Ayuntamiento while maritime traffic is controlled from the Capitanía de Puerto.

Barrio

Barrio is a Spanish word for district. The name Barrio as the subdivisions of the City States is used on a similar way as on the Villas, because the term has traditionally been used to refer to different districts within a city. However, the Barrios of a City State are much bigger (especially on population) than those of the Villas. Nevertheless, they have less independence from the City State central government.

A Barrio is further subdivided into Colonias, but Colonias are only used for giving addresses within the City States.
