The SRSC military standard

Super Roman Military Archive:

Super Rome considers a military fundamental to both a nation’s security and its technological advancement. With such a view the, Super Roman Space Corps (SRSC), the sole Roman military organisation receives an unrivalled level of state funding within the Alliance of Honourable Peoples. Roman military history can be traced over thousands of years and this heritage is fiercely protected. A disciplined, pious and efficient military force capable of delivering a crippling blow to an enemy is the highest aspiration. Belief in the fact that the age of the pitched battle with opponents equally matching in morality is at an end has led to the SRSC placing its faith in ever more sophisticated military technology. The SRSC has become the foremost orbital power in the Alliance through such mantra and receives 40% of the entire Roman budget to achieve the desired aim. Many have questioned the operation and morality of the Roman military in the past, consequently leading to political disagreements, however the Roman military command remains adamant that while avoiding unnecessary civilian losses, everything in a reasonable capacity must be undertaken to serve the "greater good."



RomNet (RN)

All marines are equipped with a neural chip containing personal details and programmes that will allow access to all information not classified to the individual on a live computer database. It also allows commanders to link to the tactical feed of the battlefield as seen from orbit. This network is essential for any operation to be effective. RN is accessed by marines either via tactical hubs based on all vehicles and tactical equipment or through a permanent connection via the SRSC combat helmet. RN stream originates from the SRSC fleet in orbit and is transmitted to designated hubs on the ground.

Each individual marine is linked to the nearest RomNet hub on the ground via the display HUD embedded in Super Roman helmets. Each hub is designated a specific frequency that only members of that specific squad can have access. RomNet software provides each marine with a powerful motion tracker. This motion tracker can detect all movement in an area of twenty metres and can distinguish allies via the RomNet frequencies emitted. This will allow marines to detect enemies before they even come into view. RomNet software also incorporates an advanced network of heat and night vision options. Heat sensors can be accessed at any time by a marine, whether it is used to mark out Sniper positions or verify power sources.

Only the Squad Commander or Spartan can manipulate the RomNet stream to indicate targets and waypoints to the rest of the marines and liaise with the SRSC fleet to confirm course of action. In this way a squad can be directly controlled from orbit and situations assessed more effectively. The only exceptions to this rule are the Spartans. Spartans are permanently linked to RomNet through higher frequency channels and can access RomNet anywhere on the battlefield. Spartans are in permanent contact with officials in the SRSC orbital fleet.

In summary the Super Roman army is highly skilled, versatile and well disciplined. Its meticulous training and weapon delivery programmes mean that the marines are often the best equipped in the Alliance. Each marine is treated as an individual, with roles being appointed based on his performance and attributes. The troops are loyal to the Imperator and will not desert or leave an ally behind and those without honour will never see the battlefield. The Super Roman weaponry is generally bulky, but created as to not overburden the marine with its power or weight. Many of the weapons systems include polymer-based designs. The Super Roman army however does lack in sheer bulk size. It therefore is not suited to large-scale open warfare, although if provoked it will put up substantial resistance.

General Overview:

The Super Roman military budget stands currently around the D80 Trillion per annum level and has been running a surplus of over D15 Trillion for the past 4 years. This Surplus has been used in the past to increase the fleets strength via number and refits. In 2006 for example “Unity” the first Super Capital Class Battlecruiser (SCB) was completed and with its celebrated launch came the first complete overhaul of the Super Roman Fleet. Since then another SCB the "Excelsior" has been created. The most recent inclusion to the fleet is unequivocally the most ambitious project ever undertaken by the SRSC: The massive vessel "Cataclysm" is over 4km in length and is armoured and armed like no other vessel in the Alliance.

The arrival of FTT or Pulse Drive, developed in conjunction with Roudland has been adopted across the fleet, allowing unprecedented space manoeuvreing capabilities. The drive utilised also by the Roudland vessels will innevitably become the major propulsion form for the Alliance. Within the atmosphere Pulse Drives are extremely dangerous, meaning that to operate effectively, "thrustering" must be used only. This was the form of propulsion used by the second generation of vessels created by the SRSC until recently.

Fusion Reactors remain the primary powersource for SRSC at the present time. Reactor technology has increased in reliability and efficiency tenfold over the years with some vessels incorporating more than a single reactor. Each vessel within the SRSC has been stripped of its nuclear arsenal after political tension regarding the issue came to a head in 2007. With the removal of the warheads, greater storage capabilities have been achieved, though many nuclear missile tubes have been set to service Templar missiles instead.

Each Titan is heavily armoured, more so than many of the counterparts in the Alliance fleet. Shortly before the Perpendicular war the fleet underwent a huge armament re-shuffle. Weapons targeting software was replaced by improved, greatly sophisticated fire control and countermeasure systems. MAC and Missile fire would be directed under the scrutiny of some of the most powerful computer platforms the HAL labs could devise. Tests in the Perpendiculum war were extremely promising. In addition "Diamond Design Technology" (DDT) was added to SRSC Invincible and thereafter incorporated throughout the fleet. The strength added by the DDT to the vessel exoskeleton proved immense. The design features a double layered hull interlaced with pure titanium and tungsten beams. DDT technology is unrivalled and has cost the SRSC a further D8 Trillion to implement on all vessels. Overlord hull designs were especially difficult to modify. Diamond Design has increased SRSC hull strength by 220%. Further to this internal strengthening the actual titanium tungsten enforced hull slats have been augmented with angular ablative slats.

After the orbital confrontation between the Confederation Fleet, (so termed by the SRSC) Perpendiculum and Walschland at "The Battle of Perpendiculum", SRSC spending has increased dramatically. The SRSC now receives D80 Trillion annually and has been given authority to pursue any military R&D it deems necessary. Currently the SRSC is watching the development of the numerous space fleets emerging from several nations in the Alliance. It has already been established by the SRSC that under the Super Roman Defence Initiative (SRDI) the Capital fleet will be equal to or above twice the number of equivalent Capital class ships employed by those nations possessing them. To that end the SRSC is preparing the three Motherships and Roman ground facilities for the production of the required number of vessels.

At the present time there are 85 SRSC vessels in operation.

For effective administration of the fleet, a new class system has been introduced. Titans are now classified as either:


Phoneix, Nebula, Intrepid, Galaxy, Sovereign or Siege class


SRSC vessels are designed to accomodate marines in the long term and to this end SRSC vessels, although primarily war vessels, also successfully double as comfortable homes for thousands of marines. Many have even been permitted to allow family members to move aboard.

Though many other nations are also refitting their ships and rebuilding their space fleets, Super Rome stands far above the rest in its ability to sustain large fleets of large vessels. Military commentators have noted that this has led to other nations either 'adapting or falling behind'. Interestingly the 2006 Autumn Strategic Review of the Roudland Military advocated the reshaping of the Roudland Orbital Fleet (Now renamed the Roudland Space Force) for the purposes of fitting in better with the SRSC fleet. As can be seen, the vessels of the Roudland Space Force are indeed designed for supporting large scale SRSC operations, though they do not lose their ability to function apart from Super Rome's fleet.

The Phoenix Class

The Phoenix class Titan is the premier multirole anti-capital vessel in operation within the Super Roman Space Corps. The Phoenix class is the first line of defence for the SRSC. Each is capable of high atmosphere orbit, but cannot descend to lower levels of the atmosphere. The Phoenix class has existed since the creation of the first Titan Dreadnought The Pillar of Autumn and is often found in heavily modified forms. The Echelon wall formation consists entirely of Phoenix vessels. Phoenix Titans have been involved in nearly every modern conflict: the Caesaran war, the Tikrit campaign and most notably the Perpendicular war.


Each Phoenix has a crew consisting of:

Phoenix class Titans are the most numerous class within the SRSC since they are comparatively low in resource cost. With the arrival and the adoption of FTT and DDT technology Phoneix vessels have become extremely formidable opponents. FTT engines have allowed higher levels of armour incorporation and dramatically increased manoeuvrability within a battle arena. Phoenix Titan armaments are generally, but not limited to:

After the Perpendiculum war 4 new vessels were incorporated from the Perpendiculum Space Corps into the SRSC. These vessels were stripped of Perpendiculum technology and have since been modified to conform to SRSC minimum standards. Many Phoenix captains have been delighted at the "Phoenix Revival" and are fully co-operating with the new armour and engine modification programmes. Typically each Titan has been in operation for over two years. Held within the five Titan launch bays:

Nebula Class

The Nebula Class Titan has been designated the premier scientific research and space exploration vessel by the SRSC. The Nebula Titan does not necessarily construe to the Titan conventional designs. These vessels are designed to generate and guard against technological warfare. The diverse range of operations carried out by the Nebula vessels has led to extreme variation and modification between vessels. Many utilise more advanced communications and electromagnetic technologies.

A group of four vessels has been categorised as Titan "Wraiths". These Nebula class vessels do not house a MAC device but instead have extremely heavy all-encompasing DDT armour. The Wraith vessels are primarily marine boarding ships. Each is armed with a high Templar Torpedo complement and numerous PDM and Heavy Gauss turrets to ensure that the vessels can provide adequate close quarter support for boarding operations. Instead of a MAC module based on the underside "adjudicator clamps" have been installed. Essentially, when a Titan manoeuvres into a suitable boarding position, the talon inspired solid titanium clamp clutches the vessel in question and tungsten heavy cutting lasers, primarily used in mining operations, bore deep into the hull until an airtight module can be placed between the two vessels and pressurised. This allows the ship-to-ship transfer of multiple marines and Spartans. Ships classified as Wraiths:

The Wraith vessels have a crew number alightly smaller than that found typically in the Nebula class, since each carries a higher proportion of orbital fighters. The Intrepid Class Titan is the super-heavy manifestation of the Phoenix class. Two Fusion engines have to be incorporated into the main hull to power the massive FTT drives and sophisticated weapons technologies. The vessel is incapable of high atmosphere deployment and has had to be constructed alongside Unity Space manufacturing facilities. The vessel is a prototype design for the next generation of Super Roman vessels. Originally conceived to be a heavy aircraft carrier, the vessel boasts compact Diamond Design Technology armour and an enhanced MAC II device. The MAC module is larger than any previously seen on SRSC vessels and has been derived from close study and tests upon the orbital MAC guns currently deployed by Super Rome. Reload times for the much larger slug are slower than conventional devices at one round per one and a half minutes. The magnets installed within the coil are also of new design allowing a continuous charge to be maintained as opposed to periodic charge style magnets.

The Intrepid Class is a sole aimed warship designed outside the conventional SRSC standard. Crew quarters are of a basic standard to allow increased room for weapons systems. Only two launch bays are incorporated into the vessel containing orbital assault craft only. There is no facility for "Dropzone (DZ)" technology aboard. Fire control towers provide assistance to the entire fleet in co-ordinating weapons fire and ordinance.

This vessel is the first to be created with heavy orbital warfare in mind. No expense has been spared in their creation and it is likely few will be built seeing as the SRSC cannot justify the construction of such costly war vessels when a war seems less and less likely. Each design allows the vessel to counter most forms of electronic warfare and electronic jamming systems have been installed.

Typically each vessel holds a smaller crew of elite marines and Spartans.

Galaxy Class Vessels

Galaxy Class Titans are primarily heavy support vessels. Classified as Titan Carriers due to their much larger landing bay capacity and Dropzone capability, the Galaxy Class vessels are effective Titan command bases. On board technology is usually more advanced than that found on Phoenix or Intrepid Class Titans.

Each galaxy due to its high capacity design can hold a multitude of vehicles, fighters, dropships and walkers. It has been adapted to contain one of the most immense ground weapons that Super Rome has to offer: Sentinel. Previously known as a Dragon Fortress, Sentinels are huge mechanised walkers capable of serving the purpose of battlefield headquarters when deployed. DropZone bays have been specifically created to handle the immense power requirements to launch the Sentinel. More details are contained below. Additonally the Galaxy class is being refitted to house the new Kamov and Venom helicopters using "RAIL" technology.

The MAC weapon is placed at the top of the vessel to enable the Galaxy to land. FTT drive has further made atmospheric landings possible since far less wind resistance is generated and upthrust is reduced. Two primary launch bays run parallel to the main hull to enable multiple fighters to disembark at once. Galaxy Class vessels are also currently the premier torpedo and missile armed Titans. Each has a large complement of Templar missiles and Torpedoes in the logic that it would not be advisable in battle to fire MAC weaponry while fighters exit the vessel.

Crew Complements consist of a higher proportion of pilots than average:

2500 Marines, 2050 Crew, 250 Spartans.

The Sovereign Class

The Sovereign Class is the most advanced heavy assault cruiser the Roman military has to offer. It is easily capable of orbital, atmospheric and close range bombardment. The MAC gun on each vessel is placed topside to allow the vessel to incorporate landing struts on the underside. Each Sovereign Class vessel therefore possesses the ability to maintain altitude at extremely low levels and actually even land. Landing procedure states that no vessel is to land in too close a proximity to towns since the power exerted from the FTT Fusion Engines would cause significant local area devastation. However the SRSC has also considered the offensive application of this turn of events. Sovereign class vessels are often the largest and most protected vessels in the fleet. To command a Sovereign Class is a great honour as they are the flagships of the fleet. Each Sovereign is powered by two FTT fusion engines to ensure that power requirements are always met. Armour is graded as heavy but is distant from the strength of the armour found upon Overlord or Intrepid class vessels.

Sovereign vessels have already demonstrated their prowess and effectiveness in battle during the Perpendiculum war. Although with a smaller complement than that found in the Galaxy class Carriers, the Sovereign can contain and successfully deploy a Sentinel. Crew numbers are typically larger than that found in other vessels since it is highly likely that the vessels will be used in Ground Assaults and City occupation. Marines on board: 4500 Marines, 1400 Crew, 400 Spartans.

Much of the Point Defence weaponry is attached to the underside of the vessel since the MAC weapon is based topside. Sovereign vessels cannot be constructed on Super Rome, but instead aboard the scaffolding alongside the SRSC Unity. DDT Technology is particularly hardened on the underside of the vessel after damage was sustained from Anti-Air fire during the war. It was deemed necessary to house all major electrical equipment in the higher compartments of the ship since EMP damage would prove very costly. Insulation has also been grafted onto the underside to prevent a ship from being disabled if an extremely large radius EMP is launched.

The Siege Class

The Siege Class Titan came into being after the creation and battlefield testing of the prototype SRSC Siege vessel. The Siege Class is the premier orbital ground assualt vessel of the SRSC. Its heavy underside armour, top mounted MAC device and heavy PDM Armaments ensure that urban targets can be neutralised rapidly and efficiently without any fear of major retaliation. When used in the Perpendiculum war, SRSC Siege demonstrated complete competence in its functionality as a close support aerial tactical command base, hence the commissioning of several more vessels of this type. 6 further vessels are scheduled for completion by the new year, bringing the overall complement of Siege Class Titans up to 7.

The Siege Class Titan is one of the largest derivations of the SRSC Titan since its operational brief is to support and provide necessary ground attack capabilities. To meet this end the vessel has to accomodate a vast array of men, vehicles and aircraft and hence two additional air/orbitallaunch bays have been annexed to the side of the vessel.

The vessel is powered by FTT technology and utilises DDT armour, much like the rest of the fleet. It has landing capability since the underside has been renedered flat and is shielded from EMP damage. The High capacity launch bays are capable of accomodating a Sentinel Class Walker. Crew numbers are high, with frequent ground support requests anticipated. Crew: 4600 marines, 1600 crew and 450 Spartans

The Overlord Class

The 8 Overlord vessels are the flagships of the Super Roman fleet and are deployed in a multitude of roles. The Overlord first came into production after a campaign was undertaken by the leading members of the SRSC Council to create a larger capital class vessel, one which would be more heavily armoured, more powerful and have a greater holding capacity. This came at a time when the SRSC was developing an increasingly powerful arsenal of heavy ground weapons and vehicles.

Commander Rykov and leading members of the SRRC worked for three years developing and designing the vessel. The main question to be answered was how to power such a ship. The HAL labs and specifically its chief researcher Dr Merchant stumbled upon the answer. His increased capacity HFusion reactors (precursors to the FTT engines now employed) generated seven times the power of a typical reactor. Two of these HF reactors were commissioned and tests became a daily occurrence. This generated the reported “earthquakes” felt by the local citizens.

Once the new reactors were deemed safe, construction began on the vessel itself. “Mercy” took over a year to build and thousands of man-hours to complete. Its design incorporated the two first prototype MAC Mark II weapons systems and increased capacity launch bays. It is capable of transporting 2 Sentinels and numerous Scorpion tanks. It can also transport and "drop" 8 RAY mechanised vehicles. Its primary role today is as a heavy orbital siege weapon.

Under the wings of the overlord the two MAC II guns are held. The immense FTT Fusion reactors are carried at the centre of the ship. Each vessel carries multiple Heavy Gauss Point Defence platforms and enhanced prototype PDM technologies. Each overlord has a crew complement of at least 8000 marines. Each has a large Spartan contingent aboard to counter any attempt at boarding and to allow for rapid Spartan deployment anywhere within the fleet (around 800). Also housed is a crew of 3000 The 6m thick titanium DDT armour is in place to counter all medium-heavy-extreme arms fire. The underside is also armed with EMP and EMPS devices, again to aid in all ground assaults. Each has a high complement of Templar missiles, but these are rarely used as they often make up the rearguard of the fleet.

The Master Chief had considered the idea of a permanent command vessel many years before the Overlord Programme had been undertaken. However even with increased SRSC funding, it was impossible to find the resources to build such a vessel. Thus Roudland, Friendly Aliens and Jihad Allah all lended their assistance in the production of Unity, the first of two Super Capital Class Battle Cruisers.


SRSC Unity was the largest construction project ever carried out by the SRSC, but also the most costly. Its specification delivered a fully mobile tactical operations centre, a major construction and repair centre and an awesomely powerful arsenal, unlike any other vessel the SRSC had within its possession. The creation of Unity ushered in a new era for orbital expansion.

SRSC Excelsior was the construction project undertaken by the SRSC alone, since it had now been possible to create such large vessels from Unity. Costs were innevitably high, especially since the Excelsior has incorporated a much more militaristic design. Personnel aboard the Excelsior are generally of military grade since much larger weapons capabilities have been included. Despite the military ethos surrounding this ship, it still serves as a repair and construction facility for the SRSC.

At the present each of the two "motherships" are powered by four FTT engines. Two FTT engines power the defensive and offensive arsenals whereas the remaining two, power the ships life support and auxiliary systems. Their manoeuvrability is severely limited, however both are intended as bases of operations, not combat vessels.

The vessels are equipped with four MAC II devices, two within the nose of the ship and one under each extended wing. Each Mothership holds over 14000 marines (including 750 Spartans)of all castes and 6000 personnel. Both vessels have the ability to dock two Titans in its fore and aft launch bays and is capable of docking an Overlord on the exterior for repairs. RomNet Hubs have been incorperated to allow the stations to serve effectively as the prmiary base of military operations. It is also from Unity that the orbital MAC Platforms are controlled. All ship AI units are produced and copied within Unity. There are 3 onboard ship AI units. Overall commmand of the vessels is handled either by the Master Chief or the Imperator. Armour stands at triple strength DDT pure Titanium plus 1m exterior ablative and refractive armour.

The Emperor Class Cruiser, built in celebration of the Imperator’s twentieth year in power, represents the most powerful symbol of Super Roman orbital authority. The Mothership Class vessel is utilised purely for military purposes and its presence constitutes the final chapter in current SRSC deployment. The monstrous vessel dwarfs all other military predecessors and will likely remain the single most powerful vessel within the Alliance for some time.

In an effort to further enrich the complement of marine activity in space and with a strong emphasis being placed on colonisation by the Super Roman government, this vessel incorporates the greatest number of military personnel on board a vessel to date. Inevitably, military functionality has replaced the normal opulence attributed to Super Roman vessels; however there are facilities on board to accommodate such fancies. The ships systems were designed in Sparta by the HAL Laboratories and are virtually impervious to remote access. Five AI holographic constructs regulate the immense system database and are the first to be permitted “learning” capability. Numerous fail-safes have been installed to counteract and AI attempt at control.

Boarding has been allocated the first priority to defend against since it would be highly unlikely for projectile weaponry to fully disable the Cataclysm. To this end, normal vessel defences including sentry cannons, ID access points and remote security sentinels have been authorised alongside numerous other security measures including heat and light sensor pads in restricted areas, blast doors at all sensitive access points and a dedicated AI monitor for all domestic defence grid systems.

Power usage is immense and hence new drives have been introduced per ce, drives produced in co-operation with the new Roudland Space Fleet. Specifications of which will be released as and when all vessels have been equipped with the new drive. All SRSC vessels will house the new engine systems.

On board, a vast nuclear arsenal is housed alongside numerous long range ballistic systems. This has tipped the nuclear balance with the majority of Roman warheads residing in Space. This controversial move has yet to be commented on by the Senate. Crew members have been specifically recruited from across both the SRSC fleet and SRSC ground forces. None are below Vanguard rank. Unlike the Motherships before it, there are no production facilities on board since weapon complements and power requirements prohibit this.

The weapons systems are immense with central importance placed upon preventing insurgencies. To this end a detection grid has been established around the vessel unlike any other. PDM and Gauss defences are regulated and co-ordinated by the Defence AI. Gauss weapons have been arranged into “weapons banks” at key positions on the vessel in the hope that if necessary these remote moveable weapons clusters will be able to eliminate those attack craft large enough to sustain single hits. MAC weaponry, stands at 4 fore and two reversible load MAC devices. These have the ability to fire aft through loading at two ports on the two primary fire wings. Torpedo complement is in line with mass; however torpedo multilink systems have been incorporated to allow for simultaneous torpedo fire at enemy vessels.

The vessel shape derives its appearance from a Lionfish with numerous “thrust-fins” able to “roll” the vessel in space and allow relative agility. The underbelly of the vessel facilitates a large multi-launch fighter bay equipped to hold Pelican, Shrike and Orca bombers. Dropzone technology is extremely limited with ground support placed as a low priority in ship design.

Under the command of the Praetorian Prefect this vessel moves independent of the main fleet since its size and fire power are too large to incorporate into battle group movements efficiently. Painted jet black this vessel intends to remain silent until activated.

This is the light reconnaissance vehicle of the Super Roman arsenal. A 250 hp diesel engine powers this most versatile light troop transport. The vehicle is lightly armoured but extremely agile and capable of all terrain mobility. It is used mainly as an anti-air and anti-infantry weapon. It is armed with a 3-barrelled link-less electric anti air weapon. It fires at 600RPM and has armour-penetrating capability. The Warthog can also be armed with an asynchronous linear induction motor produces bipolar magnetic field to fire a 30mm projectile at hyper-sonic velocity. Often the Warthog is utilised to hold locations of tactical significance. The simple design and relatively low costs in the manufacturing process make this the most abundant vehicle in the SRSC arsenal. Capable of being carried by any Dropship and easily deployed via Dropzone technology. Horn is included.


SR – 243NE3 “Harbinger”

SRSC Harbinger

With expansion into the field lightweight strike force vehciles the role of the Armoured Personnel Carrier and Infantry Fighting Vehicle have become obvious targets of interest for the SRSC. The adoption of the “Puma” and the revitalisation of the BMP III serves to fulfill provision for the latter, however a specific Armoured Personnel Carrier was needed to ensure robust maintained armour support for the new strike formations. Numerous operating systems had been proposed by many eager corporations within Super Rome, each one interested in gaining a large government grant to begin production. The final design accepted was produced by Cyberdyne systems, a company that is rapidly becoming the prominent military provider for the SRSC with numerous advances being made in the area of AI and robtics.


The SR- 243NE3 “Harbinger” Armoured Personnel Carrier can either be found in an 8x8 or 6x6 configuration. The APC can be configured to carry a driver, gunner, and commander with six/eight fully equipped troops. The power pack is installed at the front right of the vehicle and the driver's station at the front right. The common power pack on the 6x6 and 8x8 variants of SR-243NE3 can be removed and replaced in the field in 30 minutes. The Pandur II is equipped with a Cummins ISC 450 diesel engine rated at 400hp. The engine is fitted with an electronic engine management system including a sophisticated engine climate management system. A water heater provides engine preheating for cold starting and for heating the crew compartment. An automatic drive train management system (ADM) provides sensor controlled automatic engagement of all wheel drive and differential locking to suit the terrain surface and driving conditions. The ADM gives a very high standard of off-road mobility as well as reduced wear on the driveline and reduced training requirements in all terrain driving. Those drivers who feel they can beat the system can engage a mechanical override on the ADM at will. All wheels are fitted with independent suspension. The driveline and steering links are armour protected within the hull. Steering is by power-assisted recirculating ball on the two front axles. Central tyre inflation and run flat capability is installed as standard. The wheels are fitted with dual circuit hydraulically operated disc brakes and anti-skid braking. A self-recovery winch is also fitted as standard. The turning radius is extremely small making it ideal for urban manoeuvring – an essential requisite for all SRSC hardware.


The main hull of the vehicle is incredibly robust. Modular armour similar to that utilised on the Puma IFV have been made available depending on the operation. As standard all-encompassing standard armour can repel fire of 14.5 mm calibre from 100m, underside armour offers strong protection against landmines since it offers a similar design to the Puma. The seats inside the cabin are suspended and cushioned to ensure the well being of the marines inside when under fire. The crew compartment is fitted with air circulation and conditioning units, RN tactical display console, NBC and Fire detection and suppression systems. The main entry to the vehicle is at the rear either through twin doors or power-operated ramp. The vehicle is protected by a series of electronic countermeasure systems including the MUSS system employed upon the Puma which includes ultraviolet sensors, laser warner, central computer and electronic / pyrotechnic countermeasures. Passive night periscopes are available to the driver alongside the standard 6 zoom PERI available to all IFV’s within the SRSC.

Weapons systems vary depending on the usage of the vehicle, typical operational standards for the Harbinger:

With such a numeration of role this vehicle can carry a variety of weaponry or sophisticated detection systems in the case of forward command vehciles. Often this APC will be deployed to track aerospace movements in a 15KM area and designate targets for airbourne forces or ground targets. The AAV variant of this vehicle is being considered, however this will be decided after analysis of the Puma and BMP performances against air targets. The primary weapons systems can be from 90mm to 105mm low profile turret systems. Other 105 mm weapons systems such as the two man turret coupled with automatic tracking systems (as featured) can also be installed. Secondary armaments include a 7.62mm co-axila general purpose MG. In addition to the usual smoke-grenade launchers with 8 shots, there is a 6-shot 76 mm launcher at the back of the vehicle for close-in defence.


The Harbinger is one of the primary Armoured Personnel Carriers of the SRSC. Rather than reporoducing the same vehicle in varying body shapes under different names, the modular armour systems and easily exchangeble weaponry will ensure that the SRSC maintains its rapid strike capability. The light weight of the vehicle means that it can easily be carried by Pelican dropships and deployed anywhere on the battlefield, if not dropped. The APC will work alongside the IFV cunterparts forming the core of armoured support for Scorpion and IFV led sqauds.


Puma SR-317NE Tracked Infantry Fighting Vehicle

The Puma, a highly advanced IFV quite unique to its counterpart within the SRSC and indeed of all currently deployed world Infantry Fighting Vehicles. The Puma was initially designed to replace the existing BMP III IFV’s employed by the Roman military, however after numerous complaints were raised within the caste hierarchy the BMP instead received benefit from a revitalisation programme. The BMP III, carrying a significantly larger payload would enjoy a combat role alongside the Puma. As the SRSC fully gears itself to become the most effective, lethal and feared strike force in the Alliance, vehicles such as the SR-317NE will become invaluable in achieving this aim.

The Puma demonstrates numerous qualities that the SRSC is becoming renowned for. It is a compact, lightweight, agile and most of all durable. The Puma incorporates a unique modular armour system that allows a wealth of opportunities. Armour types are in two classes, though are not strictly limited to specific designations.

The Modular Armour Systems of the Puma

Type A Armour - Includes all-round protection against artillery fragments and small-calibre fragments as well as frontal protection against shaped charges and medium-calibre weapons. The front and flank are protected against 30mm cannon rounds and RPG-7 Rocket Propelled Grenades. The front armour protects against hollow charge rounds. The vehicle is also protected against 10kg blast and EFP mines while still maintaining 450mm ground clearance. Basic Level A armour vehicles weigh in at 31.45t making them highly maneuverable while still offering excellent protection. While equipped with class A armour two vehicles can be mounted on the underside of a Pelican Dropship.


Type B Armour - “B” modular armour is that which will typically be used in first strike operations. This modular armour can be fitted to the entire vehicle, covering the tracks and the roof to provide an all-encompassing protection system that can repel sniper, “home-made” weaponry, artillery and bomblets.


The Puma is designed with operational safety in mind, ensuring that no SRSC personnel are needlessly lost. As such the Puma features a variety of advanced protection systems of passive and active nature. The vehicle floor consists of two layers, sandwiching titanium and tungsten composite armour typically found aboard SRSC Space Vessels. Almost all equipment within the cabin, including the seats, has no direct contact the floor, which also adds to crew and technical safety. All cabin roof hatches are of the side-slide type which makes them easier to open manually, even when those hatches are obstructed by debris. The exhausts are mixed with fresh air and vented at the rear left side. Together with a special IR-suppressing paint, this aims at reducing the thermal signature of the IFV. The decoupled running gear– which is a further innovation in the field of tank development – significantly reduces vibrations as well as noise levels acting on equipment and crew. This is a marked improvement of the ergonomic conditions for the crew and permits sustained deployments. Another crew safety measure is that the main fuel tanks are placed outside of the vehicle hull itself, mounted heavily armored within the running gear carriers. While this may pose a higher penetration risk to the tanks, it is unlikely that both tanks will be penetrated at the same time, enabling the vehicle to retreat to a safer position in case of a breach. There is also a collector tank within the vehicle to secure steady fuel flow which may act as a reserve tank in case of a double tank breach.


The more active defensive systems are once again innovative. The Infantry Fighting Vehicle incorporates a fire detection and active defense system similar to the calibre found in the Kamov “NightWolf”. The MUSS system (Multifunctional Self-Protection System) consists of a missile warner with ultraviolet sensors, laser warner, central computer and electronic / pyrotechnic countermeasures. MUSS can handle four threats simultaneously and is effective in 360° azimuth and 70° elevation. Also utilised aboard, the The AMOS twin 120mm mortar system. This system has a direct fire capability and a digital, computerised fire control centre, which can fire a variety of mortar bombs including the Strix "smart" mortar, developed by HAL Bofors Dynamics.


The Puma offers almost radical improvements in situational awareness for IFV standards. The fully stabilized 360° periscope (PERI) with 6 different zoom stages offers a direct glass optic link to either the commander or the gunner. Since this is an optical line it had to be placed in the turret center, one of the reasons why the main cannon is mounted off-center on the turret. Via an additional CCD camera the picture from this line can also be fed into the onboard computer network and displayed on all electronic displays within the vehicle. Besides that, the periscope offers an optronic thermal vision mode and a wide-angle camera with 3 zoom stages to assist the driver, as well as a laser range finder. The whole array is hunter-killer capable; the commander also has 5 vision blocks. The gunner optics, which can be completely protected with a slide hatch, are mounted coaxially to the main gun. The gunner has its own thermal vision camera and laser range finder (identical to those on the PERI) and an optronic day sight, rounded off with a vision- and a glass block. The driver has 3 of them, as well as an image intensifier and one display for optronic image feeds. Even the passenger cabin has a hatch and 3 vision blocks on the rear right side of the vehicle, one of them in a rotary mount. The rear cabin also has 2 electronic displays.


All in all, the Puma has an additional five external cameras at its rear in swing-mounts so they can be protected while not in use. Apart from the glass optic periscope view directly accessible only by the commander and gunner (but indirectly via the CCD camera), ALL optronic picture feeds can be displayed on every electronic display within the vehicle. Especially the provisions for the rear cabin enable the passengers to be much more active than previously in assisting the vehicle crew either directly through the vision blocks and hatches, or by observing one or more optronic feeds. The whole crew has access to the onboard intercom. Traditionally, IFVs are expected to interact with MBTs on the battlefield. In reality, many IFVs are simply not mobile enough to keep up the pace a MBT can go at. The Puma aims to close this gap with several key technologies. Firstly, its compact, lightweight MTU Diesel engine is unusually strong at 800kW nominal output, which may make it the most powerful engine in use on an IFV today. As a comparison, the british Challenger 2 MBT offers only 95 kW more although it weighs twice as much as the Puma. And even at the 43t max weight in protection class C, it has a higher kW/t ratio than the Leopard 2 MBT it is supposed to amend.

A: A remote controlled 30 mm MK 30-2/ABM (Air Burst Munitions) autocannon, which has a rapid rate of fire of 200 rounds per minute and an effective range of 3000 m. There currently are two ammunition types, directly available because the autocannon features a dual ammunition feed. One is a sub-calibre, fin-stabilised APFSDS-T (T for tracer) with a muzzle velocity of 1,385m/sec, designed with high penetration capabilities, mainly for use against medium armoured vehicles. The second is a full-calibre, multi-purpose, Kinetic Energy-Timed Fuse (KETF) munition, designed with the air burst capability (depending on the fuse setting) of ejecting a cone of sub-munitions. The ABM round (173mm long, 30mm diameter) contains an electronic timer, an ejection charge and 135 cylinder-shaped tungsten alloy bars or projectiles. The electronic timer is programmed by inductive coupling through a device installed in the muzzle of the cannon. The timer initiates the ejection charge which releases and disperses the tungsten projectiles before impact with the target. Both ammunitions can be chosen differently from shot to shot as the weapon fires from an open bolt, that means no cartridge is inserted until the trigger is used. The ammunition capacity is 400 rounds; 200 ready to fire and 200 in storage.

B: 40mm/50mm/120mm "Rangemaster" high pressure smoothbore CTG 120/L50 gun, which has a rate of fire of up to 14 rounds per minute. The IFV is enabled to engage heavy cavalry targets with a range of weaponry up to the massive 120mm L50. When this turret is mounted troop carrying capacity is limited to 4 crewmembers. Automatically loaded the cannon operation can be maintain through the pilot sights. (SR-317AT)

C: 40mm/L/70 anti-air cannon and HAL 2620 Air Traget Aquisition Technology (ATAT). When modified accordingly the Puma can deliver air coverage of a range of 4KM. Laser range finder, satellite requistioning technology and fire contol systems ensure a precision strike. Electronics scramblers and low IR signitures make this a silent but deadly vehicle for airbourne targets. (SR-317AAV)

Secondary weaponry is typically found to be a 7.6mm MG or else 6 “Stalker” missile racks capable of delivering 18 warheads. In addition to the usual smoke-grenade launchers with 8 shots, there is a 6-shot 76 mm launcher at the back of the vehicle for close-in defence. The main back door can be opened halfway and enables two of the passengers to scout and shoot from moderate protection.

BMP-3 KE

The BMP III KE forms the core of the armoured IFV projects initiated by Super Rome following its drive to combine state-of-the-art technologies to increase the overall flexibility, lethality and rapid deployment capabilities of the SRSC. Super Rome under its review after the Perpendicular war has already "phased out" components of its armed forces considered "unnecessary". The BMP system was also set to become obsolete, but was saved after numerous objections from members of the War Council including high ranking members of the Spartan Order. The BMP III project was revitalised and numerous upgrades were made to ensure that it fulfilled the Roman military mantre.


The BMP III has traditionally been the IFV of choice for the SRSC, favouring the comparatively light weight, ability to cross water for over 7 hours at a time, unrivalled IFV ability to fire Anti-Tank rounds on the move its 100mm heavier armament and most importantly its transportability to IFV's currently deployed elsewhere. The original design featured many foreign tactical systems since originally these vehicles were purchased from Kegmenistan. Now however base models are still imported from Kegmenistan but are heavily modified in Super Rome utilising knowledge gained after 2 years of successful operation. The BMP III design differs in a number of ways from the original in order to ensure excellent compatability in a variety of roles.

The BMP III KE know colloquially as "The Rumbler" due to its high rate of fire and the noise of its reinforced caterpillar tracks has fast become one of the most advanced warfighting vehicles in the Roman arsenal. The turret now incorporates an automatic firing control system with an onboard RN digital tactical touch computer, new BZS1 gunner's sight with SAGEM thermal imager and laser illuminator, TKN-AI commander's periscope with laser infrared illuminator and new automatic ammunition loading system. The fire control system is automatic with manual override for both gunner and commander. It includes a RN1V539 ballistic computer, 2E52 electro-mechanical armament stabiliser and 1D16 laser rangefinder. The gunner has a 1K13-2 main sight, a combined image-intensified day/night sight and PPD-1 standby day sight. The commander has a 1PZ-10 day sight and TKN-3 combined day and image-intensified night sight. In additon all BMP III KE engage a RN derived "Arena Defensive Sids Suite". The system consists of target detection and tracking radar, computer and processing unit and protective ammunition. The system is automatic: the radar passes tracking data to the computer, which selects the number of ammunition rounds and controls firing. The selected ammunition is then expelled as a directed field. The vehicle is able to counter anti-tank guided weapons with SACLOS systems installed (semi-automatic command-to-line-of-sight).


The hull and turret are constructed from aluminium/tungsten alloy armour. Protection also includes steel external straps fitted on the turret, side armour displacement panels and a double-bottom at the front of the vehicle. The main hull armour has seen both Passive armour and ERA armour panels installed. NBC equipment includes a filter ventilation unit as well as hermetic sealing. This system is located in the rear of the vehicle, as is the ejection cooling system which, coupled with the reduced length of the gas ventilation system exhaust, serves to reduce the tank's thermal signature. The BMP has also been fitted with a sophisticated air-coolant system allowing a constant temperature to be maintained even in the most extreme climate conditions. The engine is the V-shaped UTD-32 diesel engine, which produces 660hp. The transversal mount of the engine enables the wheel drive, cardan shaft for the waterjet drives and electric bilge pump to be located underneath. Transmission is hydromechanical with a hydrostatic gearbox for the steering gear and power take-off for the water jets.


The main armament of the BMP-3KE is a 100mm 2A70 semi-automatic rifled gun/missile launcher, which is stabilised in two axes and can fire either 3UOF HE-FRAG rounds or 3UBK10 anti-tank guided missiles, which consists of the 9M117M1 laser beamriding missile and container. The missile can engage tanks with explosive reactive armour (ERA) as well as slow, low-flying targets such as helicopters. Range is 100 to 4,000m. Hit probability is given as at least 0.8 with armour penetration of 600mm. Ammunition load is 8 rounds. Effective range for the HE-FRAG round is 4,000m. Muzzle velocity is 250m/s. 22 HE-FRAG rounds can be carried in the automatic loader, total ammunition load being 40 rounds. Rate of fire is 10 rounds per minute. Armament also includes a 30mm 2A72 automatic gun, stabilised in two axes, which fires 3UOR-6 and 3UOR-8 rounds. Ammunition load is 500 AP (Armour-Piercing) or HE-FRAG rounds. Rate of fire is more than 300 rounds/min and range is 1,500 to 2,000m. There are also one 7.62mm PKT coaxial machine gun and two 7.62 bow machine guns. This vehicle is extremely well armed and can form an effective perimeter on its own. Troops inside are strongly protected from both Anti Tank mines and RPG's.

Scorpion Tanks


Scorpion Tanks are the primary heavy armament for the Super Roman Space Corps and are deployed in a multitude of roles. Devised by Admial Keyes the original Scopions have been upgaded on a multitude of occasions as new technologies have become available. The Scopion was designed principally to be an urban weapons platform capable of poviding and receiving high magnitudes of firepower. It must be stressed that the Scorpion is not an MBT as such and the Roman Space Corps does not intend to implement such armaments since large scale cavalry engagements are geneally avoided. Roman preference to advanced technology and weapons systems dictates that mass production of expensive MBTs is not a viable option. The Scopion Mark V currently in use is designed therefore to provide an advanced heavy weapons system that has excellent endurance which operates without compromising the excellent mobility afforded by the unique multi-tracked drive system. As such, Roudland military experts have proven invaluable to Scorpion development and their contributions have enabled the Roman military to equip the tank with superb armour systems.

SRSC Scorpion Mk III


As stated the Scorpion is designed to be a highly versatile Urban Weapons Platform and as such incorporates numerous technologies to ensure its survival in a hostile city environment. To this end as of April 2006, Scorpions have been fitted with Chobham mark III multi-layered active armour, developed in conjunction with RoudCorp Land Systems. Chobham armour is almost entirely classified, and is accepted by many to be the most effective MBT armour in existence. Chobham variants currently operate on the Super Roman Scorpions, Roudland Challenger 2 and Warrior IFV, placing the Scorpion firmly in the category of well protected vehicles. Dorchester Chobham forms the basis of a far more sophisticated defensive system on board the Scorpion. Inspired by the Puma IFV, both the AMOS and MUSS systems have been incorporated alonside a powerful pyrotechnic and laser scrambler defensive suite. The turret is remote activated and uses the Kamov tageting systems that can pinpoint and fire at appointed targets automatically. Indeed the pilot can operate the turret without any need of a gunner, though one is typically present to oversee the main cannon operation. 8 PERI scopes offering 360° vision, IR, laser designator and night sights are as standad and a real time CCD camera provides the operator with real time data of the battlefield, with RN targets visible through the main HUD on the operations console. 12 smoke launchers have been included. The SMART tracks are heavily armoured and able to withstand an AT mine blast. The main cabin is NBC protected, features double floor armour layers and climate control. Additional ablative armour slats can be added to the main hull, providing an additional layer of defence.


The Scoprion incoporates a number of fire systems, fitting the one chassis fits all mantre currently adopted by the SRSC as a way of drastically reducing costs. As a standard all Scorpions bear a 125mm Smoothbore cannon which is highly accurate, managing to hit targets effectively at ranges of 3000m with an 87% hit ratio. The main weapon is fitted with a muzzle reference system, fume extraction and is gyro-stabilised. 35 HEAT or Depleted Uranium shells are all accomodated and automatically loaded. Also as standard: a 7.62 AP-T and a 12.7 mm Commanders Machine Gun. The mark V has been additionally fitted with a "Sentry" assault system which is unique to SRSC vehicles. Mounted on the two front JUMP platfoms are two twin 7.62 automated defence cannons. In emergencies or when encountering numerous hostiles, to ensure that minimum damage is taken the tank commander can enable the system to defend the vehicle. RN software, running alongside the main targeting computer will on request automatically designate itself targets and engage at will.

Super Roman Ray Project


Initiated by Colonel Ford, the RAY programme was initiated by the SRSC in 2001 and has since yielded impressive results. The SRSC as it is now still employs the RAY mechanised walker and it the only nation in the Alliance that operates such a large scale mechanical walker. Their number currently stands at around 50 since these walkers are extremely expensive and the SRSC cannot justify large scale production. The machines can be trasported aboard SRSC spece vessels and via Dropzone technologies, deployed rapidly. The RAY is the only vehicle capable of prolonged marine travel in the SRSC and often spearheads assaults. The RAY is designed to instill fear in the hearts of Roman enemies, it represents a pinnacle of Roman technology and is awash with HAL labs latest technology.

Super Roman Ray

RAY itself stands at 40 metres tall and has an organic appearance, resembling that of a bipedal reptile. The machine travels on two powerful legs permitting speeds of 80km an hour at full extension and an ability to cross a variety of extreme terrain types. The main application of this weapon is that of terror in urban situations. The walker is operated by three pilots seated in the nose command module. Within the command module itself RN software is utilised enabling the pilots to access real time data regarding friendly and hostile units. A fully stabilized 360° periscope (PERI) with 6 different zoom stages offers a direct glass optic link and via an additional CCD camera the picture from this line can also be fed into the onboard computer network and displayed on all electronic displays within the vehicle. Besides that, the periscope offers an optronic thermal vision mode and a wide-angle camera with 3 zoom stages to assist the driver, as well as a laser range finder. The whole array is hunter-killer capable; the commander also has 5 vision blocks. The gunner optics, which can be completely protected with a slide hatch, are mounted coaxially to the main gun. The gunner has its own thermal vision camera and laser range finder (identical to those on the PERI) and an optronic day sight, rounded off with a vision- and a glass block. The driver has 3 of them, as well as an image intensifier and one display for optronic image feeds. Such a system forms the basis of the Puma detection systems. In additon the secondary gunner can use the RN technology to relay direct orders to friendly units and coordinate squad operations effectively. The RAY uses AMOS and MUSS countermeasure systems to protect the main hull which itself is able to effectively resist several 120mm tank blasts and almost all small arms fire. The armour employed incorporating a water cooling system reduces the IR signature projected by the mechanised walker, making it difficult to target with heat sensitive weaponry.

Its armaments include a powerful tail, (used for propulsion under water) which can be used as a wrecking ball. Other weapons include 6 missile pods attached to the rear legs and an enhanced PDM device in the nose, which can also be replaced with a powerful water laser, usually used in mining operations. Secondary weaponry includes two 7.62 modular computer assisted machine gun placements. Missiles carried vary considerably depending on the operation. A rear mounted Gauss cannon provides significant defence while on manoeuvres.

Super Roman Sentinel


The Sentinel is a new addition to the SRSC. It is designed to operate as a super heavy, mobile weapons platform and command post. Original numbers stood at five Sentinels, however this number has increased to 10 after being in service for over a year. The Sentinel forms a central command HQ for all SRSC land engagements. Its immense size limits deployment and often one will only be dropped once an area is secure.

The Sentinel is heavily armoured and features weapons systems no other SRSC vehicle can hold. The massive six leg walker is powered by a small nuclear reactor, one typically found in earlier Titans. As a semi-permanent command base this vehicle can "deploy" itself. The legs are able to collapse in on themselves, lowering the main hull to ground level, once lowered the main body will further drop to the terrain surface, turning the side-mounted legs into essentially ramparts. Once "bedded" further deployment will take place. The main entry/exit ramp will become available to all units permitting access to the vast supply depot inside for inbound units and access to the battlefield for outbound units. Mobile antenna will deploy from the roof and RN direct signal amplifiers will be installed. The main roof itself retracts on the right hand side revealing massive co-axial MAC cannon similar to that found on SRSC vessels, though only 3m in diameter. Also deployed are several mortar systems and Surface to Air Missile systems. 12 Sentry twin 7.62 MG emplacements alongside a comprehensive fire control and countermeasues suite are made available. Four Gauss cannons are also based in the command nose of the vehicle. The armour system features a water cooling system and IR resistant paint reducing the thermal energy signiture once "bedded". h Power requirements when moving are enormous and fire on the move is as a result impossible. The mechanised walker must be stationary to fire its primary weapon, though it is rare that the Sentinel enters combat. The Sentinel, being the primary communications and supply hub in a protracted seige is heavily defended. The Sentinel often forms a HQ of much larger military command post with VTOL pads and Motor Pools often erected nearby. Utilised only in the Perpendicular War and firing on only one occasion with devastating effects, this armament has been accepted as an essential tool in lengthy occupation, albeit at a high cost. No more than ten will be ordered by the SRSC.

Inside this monolith can hold either 2 Pelicans or 4 Kamov/Havok gunships via RAIL technologies although a refuelling module is present on the main roof. 15 Scorpions/20 IFV/ 35 Warthogs can be accomodated and a machine workshop is available for damaged vehicles. 600 troops can be carried when fully encumbered with vehicles, 1200 troops can be accomodated once "bedded" and once vehicles have been deployed.

Super Roman Orbital Defence Initiative

The Orbital Defence Initiative was established after the event of the Perpendiculum war. Originally defensive platforms and craft designed to defend the SRSC were under a number of different departments. With the evolution of the SRSC into an all-consuming military standard a number of departments were reformed to enable higher degress of financial management and more focused research initiatives. Thus the Orbital Defence Initiative was established to encompass all aspects of SRSC defence. The fleet remains seperate to this category since its multirole purpose seperates if from stereotypical defensive roles, vis-a-vis it is used as a primary offensive party.

All matters concerned with the fleet and all arsenals affiliated with deployment in offensive roles by the SRSC armada are listed above. Below follows a list of primary Defensive weapons. Within the ODI or OD infrastructure two main categories emerge: Mobile defence units followed by stationary defensive units and platforms. Details regarding both are listed below.


Mobile Defence

This aspect of ODI encompasses all mobile aspects of the SRSC defence network. Airships, Corsairs and Gunships are all contained within this category. For many years the SRSC was one of three departments: The SRAF (Super Roman Air Force), SRLC (Super Roman Land Corps) and the SRSC formed the major department. When the SRSC established control of all departments it handed control of the then SRAF to ODI hence the large number of assault craft featuring within the mobile defense initiative.

Development of the SRAF had been exceptionally so and thus under ODI has received a high level of funding (D3Trillion). A number of new Defensive craft were constructed to ensure the protection of marines in combat. Heavy assault craft and fighters have been developed to fulfil this role


Pelican Dropship

The Pelican Dropship, developed by captain Brakeman revolutionised transport. He developed the first dropship able to operate within and outside the atmosphere. It has since been used in a variety of roles, from simply transporting troops around the battlefield, to breaching and boarding battle cruisers in orbit. The missile variant can only contain twelve scaled templar missiles due to the vast amount of energy required to fire them. Each Pelican is comfortably able to lift warthogs and armoured tanks, albeit a bit slower. Its titanium armour makes it relatively invulnerable to small arms fire. Many Spartans, including the Master Chief have customised their own pelicans with some "interesting" upgrades


Albatross Transport Ship

The Albatross, again developed by Captain Brakeman was also developed in conjunction with Roudlands dropship programme. The Albatross can carry a large contingent of marines and is capable of lifting nearly all heavy weapons equipment. It can hold scorpions on its underside and can also be used as a refuel and medicinal post once landed. These slow moving craft are vulnerable to land to air weaponry and are rarely deployed on the front line. Four Albatross transports are capable of linking a scaffold capable of lifting a Sentinel at low altitudes. A fifth Albatross craft is often required to lift a fully lined Sentinel. Two warthog variants can be held in storage pads at the side of the aircraft. This will limit the marine capacity to 24 however.


Longsword Defence Craft

The Longsword craft are usually deployed to escort transports and orbital fleets. They are highly manoeuvrable craft and have the ability to VTOL thanks to rotating exhaust jets. The OSPNKR (Orbital SPNKR) rockets are effective against ground targets and air targets. They are of moderate armourment since their role often varies. Two may dock onto an Albatross fuselage for refuelling and transport. Longsword fighters are carried aboard a majority of SRSC Titans and are an essential asset to ensure the security of the fleet from fighter and bomber assault recently with the introduction of the ORCA and Shrike class fighters the Longsword has become the workhorse of the SRSC with its multirole capacity. Secondary Weapon armaments vary across the fleet with individual pilot preferences being observed. Many pilots have opted for the Gauss modification

The ORCA Assault ship carries an array of weapons designed to assault land targets from higher atmosphere levels, out of the range of most anti air weapons. The ORCA is capably of "hovering" using powerful VTOL jets on the underside of the main fuselage. Highly manoeurable, the ship is designed to precision strike light ground targets and formations. Essentially a light bomber, this fighter is intended to be rolled out across the fleet in the following year.


Kamov KA-51N “Nightwolf”

Following the collapse of the “True Union” the SRSC began to analyse tactical performance during the Perpendicular War. One of several weaknesses found in overall battle competency was the lack of close personal air support. During the assaults on Perpendicular cities Pelican Dropships struggled to maintain effective battlefield control since at the same time their orders were to provide simultaneous troop transport. As such over 300,000 Pelican Dropships have been ordered to ensure this situation is no longer the case. Additionally, though the Pelican is outfitted with numerous weapons technologies, once depleted, their removal from battle to rearm essentially constituted a gap in close air cover. Thus alongside the development of further Pelican technologies the SRSC deemed it necessary to create a weapons platform that would combine speed, agility and firepower. The result: The Kamov KA-51N.


The KA-51N is the only single-seat attack helicopter designed as a gunship. The KA-51N has been designed with the specific aim to allow close air support for Special Forces and squads. Production costs are high comparatively across the Alliance, however the SRSC believes the security of marines on the ground is essential. The KA-51N and its agility complement the firepower of the heavier MI-28N, which has also been brought into service. The Nightwolf is the only helicopter gunship in the Alliance to feature single seat operation, co-axial propulsion and the zero-zero ejection seat system. The KA-51N was designed as mentioned to be small, fast and agile to improve survivability and lethality. As with many of Super Roman weapons systems it is believed to possess superior flight characteristics but inferior avionics to its counterparts on the Northern continent. This has not been a concern to the SRSC however, preferring the simplicity of SRSC technology to maintain in field operations and efficient workings of the avionics systems.


Analysis of the Perpendicular War revealed that typical typical attack mission phases of low-level approach, pop-up target acquisition, and weapon launch do not simultaneously demand navigation, maneuvering, and weapons operation of the pilot; and thus with well-designed support automation a single pilot can indeed carry out the entire mission alone. It's most remarkable feature is a remote targeting system with a capability to provide for a sudden deadly attack from a 10Km distance that rules out direct visual contact with the target. Indeed concerns have been raised over the fatigue of the pilot and his health, however the fact that an SRSC vessel will innevitanly be in close proximity and with it an abundnce of ready pilots, this will become less of an issue since shifts can be maintained. The KA-51N is so named due to its compact blade arrangement, making it suitable to be placed on the RAIL system.


Uniquely the Kamov features a conta-rotating co-axial rotor system, which removes the need for the entire tail-rotor assembly and improves the aircraft's aerobatic qualities -- it can perform loops, rolls, and “the funnel” where the aircraft maintains a line-of-sight to target while flying circles of varying altitude, elevation, and airspeed around it. The elimination of the tail rotor is a qualitative advantage because the torque-countering tail rotor can waste up to 30% of engine power. (To begin with, Kamov’s engines offer more shaft horsepower, some 2200 shp apiece, than e.g. Apache's General Electric turbofans, at 1890 shp, which contributes to the superb performance.) Furthermore, the vulnerable boom and rear gearbox are fairly common causes of helicopter losses in combat; the Kamov’s entire transmission presents a comparatively small target to ground fire both with regard to profile and acoustic signiture. The airframe is 35% composite materials with a structural central 1m 2 keel beam of kevlar/nomex that protects critical systems and ammunition. The fully armoured pilot's cabin can withstand 23-mm gunfire, and the cockpit glass, 12.7-mm MG gunfire. The zero native torque also allows the aircraft to be fairly immune to wind strength and direction, and to have an unsurpassed turn rate in all travel speed envelopes. In short the Kamov is an extermely well balanced, manoeuvrable and deadly addition to the SRSC, allowing it to provide the close strike support necessary in the field combined with rapid deployment abilities and rapid re-armament options.

The Ka-51N was the first helicopter fitted with an an ejector for improved pilot survivability; this was also seen as a psychological factor enhancing the pilot's combat courage. Before the rocket in the K-37-800 ejection seat kicks in, rotor blades are blown away by explosive charges in the rotor disc and the canopy is similarly jettisoned.


The machine carries a substantial load of weapons in four external external hardpoints under the stub wings plus two on the wingtips, a total of some 2,300 kg depending on the mix. The main armament are the twelve laser-guided VIKhR anti-tank missiles with a maximum range of some 10 km. The laser guidance is reported to be virtually jam-proof and the system features automatic guidance to target enabling evasive movement immediately after missile launch. This Night attack capable gunship is fitted with a nose-mounted FLIR. The cockpit is fitted with an additional TV display, and is NVG compatible. The laser guidance system has also been adapted to serve as a designator for SRSC orbital fire. The fire control system automatically shares all target information among the four Kamov gunships of a typical flight in real time, allowing one helicopter to engage a target spotted by another, and the system also can input target information from ground-based forward scouts with man-portable RN target designation gear. The integrated 30mm cannon is side-folding mount on the helicopter's side, movable only slightly in elevation and azimuth. The aircraft's agility allows the weapon control system to turn the entire helicopter and the cannon at the target acquired in the pilot's helmet sight about as fast as the cannon turret of the Apache or the Mil-28N turns. The semi-rigid mounting improves the cannon's accuracy, giving the 30mm a longer practical range and better hit ratio at medium ranges than with a free-turning turret mount while also improving its compctability aboard ships. The Kamov-51 also incorporates an advanced Glass Cockpit avionics system.

MIL-28N “Venom Gunship”

A Venom Gunship engages test targets in the Tikrit Desert

The MIl-28N is the working name of the “Venom Gunship”. This helicopter is the purpose built Heavy Assault Gunship of the SRSC. Developed in conjunction with the more agile KA-51 this massive aircraft, inspired by the Hind of Kegmenistan is utilised in the most hostile areas since it is more suited to dealing with guerrilla warfare. Much larger than the Kamov, it is better armoured and armed. This gunship has been especially designed to partake in night operations, with little degradation in battlefield performance at night. This Gunship has numerous advantages one being lower in cost, ability to perform unaffected by weather conditions and the ability to transport three marines. The main purpose of this troop transport capability however is to rescue allied downed helicopter personnel or stranded marines. The MIL incorporates two heavily armoured “Glass Cockpits” which co-ordinate with the advanced avionics systems aboard the Gunship. It is equipped with a top-mounted millimeter wave radar station capable of designating and engaging numerous targets, IR-TV, and a forward-looking infrared (FLIR) system. The system displays the helicopter location on a moving map indicator, and flight, systems and target information on liquid crystal displays. The crew are equipped with night-vision goggles.


The Gunship is powered by the immense TV3-117V MA-SB3 engines (2500 hp each) allowing it to maintain flight even at higher altitudes. Once again the blades have been designed to contract allowing the Gunship to be stored upon RAIL enabled technologies.

The helicopter design is based on the conventional pod and boom configuration, with a tail rotor. The main rotor head has elastomeric bearings and the main swept-shape rotor blades are made from composite materials. The tail rotor is designed on a biplane configuration, with independently controlled X-shaped blades. A new design of all plastic rotor blades, which can sustain hits from 30mm shells, has been installed on the Venom Mi-28N helicopter. The helicopter has non-retractable tricycle tail-wheel type landing gear. The energy-absorbing landing gear and seats protect the crew in a crash landing or in a low-altitude vertical fall. The crew are able to survive a vertical fall of up to 12m/s. The Mi-28 has a fully armoured cabin, including the windshield, which withstands impact by 7.62mm and 12.7mm bullets and 20mm shell fragments

Fire control systems and under-wing weaponry

The Mi-28N has small swept-back, mid-mounted stub-wings with four suspension units. Countermeasures pods are mounted on the wingtips. The helicopter can be armed with a mixture of air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles, unguided rockets, and podded guns. The Mi-28N Venom is armed with Ballista and Aspect anti-tank missiles supplied by the Tristia Design Bureau (TDB). Up to 16 anti-tank missiles can be mounted on the helicopter. Ballista is a short-range, radio command-guided missile. The Aspect missile's guidance is by narrow radar beam, and maximum range of the missile is 10km. The missile has a tandem shaped-charge warhead for penetration of 950mm to 1,000mm armour. The helicopter can also carry four containers, each with 20 80mm unguided rockets or with five 122mm rockets. The helicopter can alternatively carry containers with grenade launchers, 23mm guns, 12.7mm and 7.62mm machine guns, aerial bombs, and incendiary tanks. The helicopter is equipped with a turreted 2A42 30mm cannon, stabilised in two axes, with a muzzle velocity of 1,000m/s. It is believed that the MIL-28N will prove most effective in supporting ground troops with the combination of advanced avionics and good survivability. RN will enable both the Kamov and MIL-28 to designate and acquire targets quickly resulting in rapid neutralisation of ground targets. The MIL and Kamov are designed to work alongside all other Roman technlogies such as the ORCA projects and the existing Dropships of the SRSC. It is hoped that with the inclusion of heavy support aircraft and the arrival of the highly advanced and sophisticated ORCA close personal air ground support will be maintained as never before.

Shrike Class Fighter

The Shrike Class Fighter is the first air-to-air purpose built fighter. It is designed to defend against opposing bombers and heavier corsairs. This is a light aircraft and encorporates a unique wing design to allow rapid turning in and outside atmosphere. Lightly armoured and Lightly armed this fighter is not utilised in offensive operations. Friendly Aliens expertise will more than suffice for the entire Alliance.

MAC Stations

There are 15 MAC stations in geostationary orbit around Super Rome. Each incorporates light thrusters allowing the heavy MAC armaments to manoeuvre and pivot 360° . Each platform fires a 1500 tonne MAC round 80% the speed of light. Each maintains a complement of 300 marines and 200 engineers. The device was constructed to ensure that Super Rome was well defended from orbital attacks and to ensure that, unlikely as it may seem, that other hostile alien races would think twice about attacking the Alliance. It is a stark warning to any potential aggressive nation in the Alliance not to attack.

Each Station is named after a major city within Super Rome. Utilised only once during the Perpendiculum war during the orbital Battle of Helcion 001, (the sector name attributed by the SRSC to this area of space) the stations of Tarentum and Mediolanum fired through the amassed armada and crippled the Perpendicular Carrier PDSC Brood. Later boarded and reclaimed by the SRSC.

Super Roman Infantry

Essentially there are four castes of infantry: marines, vanguard, Helljumpers and Spartans.

Marines

The Marines are the standard SRSC infantry. Each carries a standard weapon attributed to him under the guidance of Utilis. Super Rome generally operates under cohort tatics, only in extreme warfare are the legions assembled. In recent history this has happened only once with the threat from Julius Caesar in the Battle of Tikrit. This however was long before the fleet took its present shape and before the army size was slowly doubled to over one and a half million men.

Standard infantry are equipped comparatively light when compared to the other major military powers. This has been a conscious choice by the SRSC. With the primary role of SRSC forces being a potent first strike, troops need to be deployed extremely quickly, often into urban warfare situations. Thus equipment carried is generally lower than that of a typical soldier. Each carries a small pack containing only essentials. All bulkier communications equipment other than the RN headgear is stored within the accompanying squad vehicles. Thus the pack contains a Medkit, Ammunition (though much excess ammunition is stored in combat webbing) and a ration kit.

Each is armoured in ultra-light black nanocomposite armour based on Tungsten Disulfide, able to withstand shocks generated by a steel projectile traveling at velocities of up to 1.5 km/second and this material, under isotatic conditions withstand up to 350 tons/cm² of pressure. This makes the Super Roman Marine an exceptionally potent force. This armour, naturally, is extremely expensive to manufacture. In addition to this body armour a marine wears a RN Battle Helmet, Gore - Tex lined and nomex pannelled Combat Boots and combat webbing, allowing storage for excess ammunition and fragmentation grenades.

Generally a Cohort consists of 40 men. A cohort is a self-contained military unit that has a typical vehicle count attributed to it. Standard marines form the majority of the squad at around 30 men, though there are many exceptions. If exemplary service is displayed or particularly honourable actions are exhibited then a standard marine will be considered for promotion to a Vanguard.


Vanguard


These veteran marines have distinguished themselves beyond the call of duty. They are well respected and rewarded. Often seen in command of a contingent of marines, they form the first form of command structure within the military. Each Vanguard carries with him an enhanced sense of responsibility and hence is trained rigorously aboard Unity and the Excelsior, the two primary Motherships. Often Vanguards of particular promise are promoted to Praetorian rank and those of exceptional calibre are promoted to an elite unit known as the Arcani. Vanguard, Praetorian and Arcani numbers are usually around 5 - 7 men per cohort. The final makeup of the 40 strong cohort varies, often including Spartans.

Vanguards are often seen carrying heavier weaponry than marines and have command sub-routines built into their RN helmet. Furthermore Vangaurds are equipped with the same body armour as that utilised by the marines. Vanguards can easily be distinguished by a flowing cape attached to the armour. This is of different colours, indicating rank. Though this is often removed in battle.

Praetorians


Praetorians are elected by fleet commanders after exceptional service has been demonstrated and particularly glorious acts have been performed. Battle garb demonstrates their superior rank, with RN helmets often customised to potent effect. Often Praetorian weaponry will have been modified further for personal use. Sniper Rifles are particularly enhanced favourite. Praetorian rank colour is no lower than red. The famed Lt Johnson was one of the founding Vanguard members and despite several requests by the high command he has refused to join the Helljumpers or the Arcani. He detests the secrecy exhibited by the Arcani and insists that his place is with the marines and ground combat. His wish to "put pain to the enemy" is well respected and is often seen conversing with the master chief. Lt Johnson has since become the role model for all marines. Johnson is one of the few Praetorians allowed to deviate from traditional rank insignias. His black cloak is laced and trimmed with the gold insignia of the Imperator. Due to heavy modification and customisation, it would be impossible to establish a general overview of Praetorian equipment.


The Arcani


The Arcani are a secret society of high ranking elders within the Roman army. A shroud surrounds any information pertaining to their cause or purpose. Many have speculated that their role is to carry out highly sensitive special operations in foreign territories. Many speculate they are the elite guard or spies of the Roman Confederacy. Whatever their function these men are highly revered and feared - often the subject of children’s stories and media myth. The Super Roman government has indeed confirmed their existence, but their purpose remains a mystery.

Sightings of the Arcani are rare but it can be deduced that all are robed in black, carry true gladius swords and are extremely agile. Many have speculated that these members were failed Spartan attempts, but this has never been attested.

Helljumpers


Helljumpers are some of the most battle-hardened, well-disciplined and experienced marines that the Super Roman military has to offer. Few in number, the Helljumpers are often used as elite Special Forces support for the Spartans. They are specially trained in boarding and overcoming enemy vessels. They are often pilots of aircraft and commanders aboard heavier vehicles. Their nanocomposite armour has been strengthened in all sensitive areas to ensure longevity on the battlefield.

Helljumpers generally serve aboard Naval vessels within the SRSC and are deployed as a preliminary strike force, neutralising communications and ensuring the sabotage of key installations. Often a Helljumper squad will be escorted at all times by two Pelican Dropships, with the possibility of further air support on hand if needed. There are no ranks within the Helljumper cohorts and all are dressed in Jet Black..

The Roman Cohort

As has been mentioned above, the Roman cohort consists of 40 marines of varying rank. Generally 30 marines, 5/7 Vanguard and finally 5/3 Special forces such as Spartans or Helljumpers. The cohort is much larger than the traditional squad but smaller than a platoon.

The Cohort has been in service since military inception during the dark ages, before Super Rome was even founded. The cohort initially started at around 80 milites of similar rank and gradually decreased in size as urbanisation took place and mainland battles of epic were no longer undertaken. Warfare was no longer centred solely on the field. During the 1950's the cohort size was established at 60 men since the Great Alliance War had proven that open field warfare was now uncommon. With the launch of the first military vessels into Space by the SRSC, it was agreed that if the desire was to function surgically, then the most logical step would be to decrease the overall number of milites within the armed forces and devise smaller contingents. Thus in 1988, shortly after the Roman government decided to join the Alliance, troop numbers fell from over 3 million to 600,000. This was an unprecedented move, unrivalled in all of Roman history. Retired milites received recusancy pay and were encouraged to find jobs in the booming commerce sector. This policy was a great success, leading to the leading position Super Rome enjoys in all aspects of commerce and industry.

From 1988 the size of the cohort has remained at 40 milites. A strong emphasis was placed on developing rapid transportation techniques and heavy equipment to support the lower troop numbers. Government funding began to rise across all military sectors with the theory that military advances would provide multiple civilian technologies at the same time. The Super Rome military then began to gain ground as a major world military power, a position long enjoyed by nations such as Kegmenistan and Roudland. Eventually spending surpassed the spending of both these nations and continues to this day to grow at a rapid pace. For the cohort this meant drastic changes to its operation, since heavy mechanisation and revolutionary communication advancement had taken place.

The Cohort in its present standing remains at 40 marines (All soldiers ceased to exist with the overlordship of the SRSC). Cohorts are typically deployed into Urban situations and function as a separate entity with individual cohort objectives from the main legion (12 Cohorts). Each cohort is linked via RN first to an information stream unique to the cohort in question, while at the same time being linked to the main RN Battlenet. This allows the cohort to receive SRSC orders, as well as unique communications specific to the cohort, from the Praetorian or Commander in authority at that given time. This allows independent marine movements and hence greater flexibility.

The idea of flexibility and mobility is central to the SRSC. The utilisation of Dropzone is symbolic of this. A cohort is generally accompanied by a standard vehicle count, though, as with most SRSC specifications, this is subject to change. A typical cohort:

The cohort via RN is also able to call for assistance at any designated point from super heavy units such as RAY walkers or Sentinels. Once designated, targets can also be attacked via atmosphere or orbit.

Super Roman Ethos

Super Rome has the highest military spending in the Alliance bar none and this is reflected in the huge undertakings carried out by the unified Super Roman Space Corps. The SRSC became the universal military department for Super Rome after is was deemed inefficient to maintain several departments at once, which essentially all aimed to support the SRSC anyway.

SRSC and SRRC members believe that spending is believing, to that end, research has advanced the Super Roman fleet to unprecedented levels. Military spending has recently hit the D60 Trillion mark, and with the annexation of Perpendiculum a new wealth of resources has prompted industries to increase production and output. Strong economic growth has led to further gains in tax revenues, thus higher spending across the defence industries.

Super Roman weaponry is generally very large. This is firstly to act as a deterrent to any would-be attacker. The SRSC has rapidly expanded over the past decade, now including 69 vessels from numerous classes. Super Rome is undoubtedly the foremost orbital power in the region with not only military but civilian interests in Space. The SRSC is the provider of heavy artillery support and Safety for the allied fleets. Often supported by Roudland, Kegmenistan and Friendly Aliens the combined space fleet numbers over 90 capital ships when fully deployed.

It is possible to maintain the fleet since Super Roman spending is extremely high whereas the Super Roman total military wage bill remains comparatively low since troop numbers are around 1.25 million as opposed to much higher numbers found in Rouland and Kegmenistan. The SRSC umbrella also saves funding since administration and seperate Research and Development projects are no longer necessary. All land and air forces have all been incorporated into the SRSC. The Super Roman military lacks any form of sea armaments however. This is a conscious choice as Super Rome feels that sea based attack craft are out-dated and unecessary. However, that said, the Super Roman military recognises the sea still has some use. Under colonel Ford, a new type of mechanised walker known as “RAY” was developed in 2003, capable of travelling underwater for several days. However this is not a sea combat vessel. It cannot fire under water. It must first surface to fire.

The SRSC air force has traditionally been heavyily transport centred. Pelican and Albatross dropships have been the primary air vehicle for the SRSC since their conception. However in recent years Longsword Defence Craft have struggled to create air supremacy in an area not populated by SRSC Dreadnoughts. With the departure of Perpendicular corsairs from the fleet following the Perpendiculum war the SRSC has begun development of two new classes of fighter: The Shrike Class fighter, ORCA bombers and the Eclipse Class bomber.

The SRSC is typically the first Allied force on the battlefield. This is due to the fact that orbital transport allows rapid movement around the Alliance. "Dropzone technology" developed in 2001 allows for quick deployment of men and machines to the battlefield from both orbit or atmosphere. Only once squad numbers reach sufficient levels on the ground will heavy armaments be deployed such as RAY walkers, Sentinels, Leviathans etc. Once a Command Post has been established, SRSC Galaxy, Sovereign and Siege class vessels typically descend from orbit to atmospheric combat levels. Titans of this class will then serve as heavy artilery and close range heavy support units. The SRSC vessels will utilise their heavy PDM and Heavy Gauss arsenals to neutralise threats on the ground. Any target can be designated by a marine for destruction through RN.

The ground forces will then proceed to neutralise key installations: communication points, tactical headquarters and transport links. If strong resistance is encountered either the vessel above the city, air support, RAY or a Sentinel will be called to provide assistance. Once all objectives have been met the majority of Super Roman forces will typically withdraw to the battle line by now established by Sentinels and wait for further reinforcements.


Super Roman Battle Training at Hevadra

The SRSC upon adopting several new operational units in the air and on land began a field test at the purpose build Hevadra training facility - a fabricated city based on the Perpendiculum city of Marradus. The city was completed after 2 years of careful planning and preparation. Designed as a typical metropolitain hub, capable of housing a million inhabitants, the facility incorporates many buildings such as supermarkets, malls and government buildings. It is entirely made out of concrete and reinforced steel. It is the perfect training base for SRSC personnel. It is likely this facility will become available to all in the Alliance.


Battle Operation 1

The SRSC had elected 40000 marines to begin testing at the new Hevadra facility. All resources were made available including the new "Puma" and "Harbinger" Infantry Fighting Vehicles and the "Venom" and "Kamov" assault helicopters. For the first time all aspects of the SRSC were operational at one location. The fleet had also been mobilised to assist in a battle situation. The enemy, rather than deploying immobile targets en masse, comprised of an assortment of old Scorpion Mark II and III tanks, the abandoned MBT prototypes, Jihadii equipment abandoned in Perpendiculum, Perpendiculum Type-99 battle tanks; all of which would have been destroyed at the conclusion of the present military year. 20,000 marines were to play the enemy and 20,000 the SRSC. Ammunition however would not be live and instead replaced with the complicated adaptation of the MILES (Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System) training equipment. All vehicles used were to be fitted with such a system also. Below follows an account of the military test carried out May 15th.

Super Roman Armoury

MAC Weaponry

The Magenstic Accelerator Cannon is the primary superweapon of the SRSC fleet. Powerful superconducting magnets accelerate projectiles ranging in mass from 400 (metric) tons to 1000 tons in the case of MAC platforms to around 80% speed of light. Vehicle-based PDM's have a much lower velocity.

The MAC gun is positioned on the underside of the majority of Titans and is roughly 200m long. A further 500 m is used to store MAC rounds. The cannons fire metal slugs using a system of magnetic fields down a long shaft, increasing the projectiles' velocity until they carry an incredible amount of energy.

A PDM (Point Defence Magnetic Accelerator Cannon) is utilised on all vessels and a number of super heavy vehicles. The PDM has recently been the uniform name given to all previous MAC variants. Each PDM fires a smaller projectile at 60% the speed of light, due to a much smaller launch shaft.

A typical MAC Round (excluding those fired from Motherships, Overlord Vessels and MAC stations) is measured at around, as stated above at 400 metric tons. The Slug is approximately 25m x 40m x 25m with a tipped end.

A typical PDM Round is appoximately 2 tonns. These projectiles are fired at 60% the speed of light. The slug is approximately 80cm x 800cm x 80cm

A round is created through the smelting process. Tungsten and Titanium are combined after being liquidized in the blast furnace. The molten metal is then poured into a specific mould allowing a small bore hole in the base of the round, in which the Uranium core will be installed once cooled. New production techniques using tungsten carbide have allowed the weight of the slugs to decrease. The hardened layer reduces the need to use such high grade tungsten in the round production process.

A MAC round is created either on the mainland Super Rome and transported via transport vessel or created on Unity or Excelsior, the only ships large enough to accommodate production facilities. This is also where the majority of MAC rounds are stockpiled for vessels in orbit. Each uranium core is just over 10m long. This is relatively small, but it is only used as the detonator in the explosion process. Once shattered on impact it will detonate and thus create the shrapnel effect present in a MACII blast.

Marine Weaponry

M6D Automatic Pistol:

An automatic side arm. Fires a 10.mm semi-armor-piercing high-explosive bullet. The M6D has a 12 round magazine and the ability to link up to suit or helmet optics to create a 2x optical smart-link scope.


M6C Magnum:

A standard semi-automatic side arm for SRSC Marines. Fires 10.mm semi-armor-piercing ammunition from a 12-round magazine.


M7 Caseless Sub-Machine Gun:

A short-range submachine gun that fires 5 x 28 mm caseless rounds from a 60-round magazine at a cyclic rate of 1500 rpm.


MA5B Assault Rifle:

A short range assault rifle designed with a small LCD screen to display remaining rounds and relative "north." The MA5B has a 60 round magazine of 7.62 x 51 mm ammunition.


MA5C Assault Rifle:

A newer version of the venerable MA5B with a reduced clip of 32 rounds but with longer range and more accuracy than its forebearer.


MA5K Assault Rifle:

A cut down version of the MA5B, used by Spartans.


MA2B Carbine:

A carbine version of the MA5B assault rifle that could be adapted to use a silencer. Fires 7.62 x 51 mm ammunition.


BR80 Battle Rifle:

A battle rifle with a semi-automatic or 3-round-burst setting and a 48 round magazine. Fires 9.5mm rounds. Normally fitted with a 2x optical scope with smart-link feature.


M90 Semi-Automatic Shotgun:

A standard issue, semi-automatic shotgun, firing 8-gauge magnum buckshot shells. It can carry up to 12 rounds of ammunition. Often heavily customised by higher ranks.


SP5 AM Sniper Rifle

A semi-automatic magazine-fed sniper rifle. The rounds can travel up to 500 meters and the optic connection through the hand can give the visor a 2x 5x or 10x zoom. Carries four 14.5 x 114 mm APFSDS (Armour piercing fin stabilized discarding sabot) rounds per magazine.


M19 SSM Rocket Launcher:

A two-shot, double-barreled homing rocket launcher that fires high explosive projectiles. Nicknamed the Spanker due to the SPNKr stamp on the body of the launcher.


M9 HE-DP Fragmentation Grenade:

Standard issue SRSC fragmentation grenade.

Vehicle Arsenal

M60 LLAMG (vehicle Mounted)

Used on Sentinels as an anti-air weapon. Also used as the rear mounted machine gun on all standard Warthogs. A 3 barrelled, link less, electric, gattling weapon. Fires 600 RPM.


M70 Gauss Cannon (vehicle mounted)

Used as rear guns on the Dragon Fortress and on the rear of a Gauss Hog: Asynchronous linear induction motor produces bipolar magnetic field to fire 25mm projectile at hyper-sonic velocity.


M50 Vehicle Mounted Homing Rocket Launcher

A six shot, multi-barreled homing rocket launcher that fires 120mm shaped charges. Homing capability makes this a perfect anti-heavy vehicle weapon.


EMP

electromagnetic pulse was first observed during high altitude nuclear weapon detonations. An electromatic pulse lasts for less than a nanosecond, and travels outward in every direction as an electromagnetic shock wave. This shock wave will induce heavy currents in all electronic gadgets that mainly contain semiconducting and conducting materials. This produces immense heat that simply fries the circuitry inside and destroys them. As such, while not being directly responsible for the loss of lives, these weapons are capable of disabling electronic systems on which industrialized nations are highly dependent.


Templar Missiles

Come in many variations with varying yields from 10Kg-15KG Air to Air yields to over 60Kg yields on Space vessels. Each missile is guided, both by infra-red and RN satellite. Many of the orbital variants operate via a homing mechanism built into the nose. The missiles are primarily used in orbit as anti-capital ship weaponry, with a slow turning vector.


AI

Artificial Intelligence was created at the HAL labs in Sparta. It is a computer Software programme that evolves on a regular basis and adapts to regulate ships systems more effectively. Capable of assuming a digital human form at consoles many AI's are able to communicate effectively with ship personnel. The programmes are intuitive and exceptionally powerful hardware and hence are extremely costly. AI is the first device to be salvaged from a downed vessel.
