THE SOCIALIST DEMOCRATIC UNION OF TAIBEI

The Socialist Democratic Union of Taibei is made up of Taibei Main Island, The Miyako Islands and the disputed Honku Islands. The Islands are a part of a island chain between the Suburdian and Fuerzan Mainland. The Socialist Democractic Union of Taibei shares the island chain with it's northern neighbor Cherisovia.

People

The great majority of Taibei's popluation is descended from the Shonto Tribe; which came to the Taibeianese Islands from the Suburidan Continent 6,000 years ago.

However - 30% of Taibei's population is descended from French colonizers which took over Taibei in 1879. Another 10% is made up of the Segasaturnian newcomers; who came to Taibei from the time Taibei was taken over by Segasaturn in 1985 until it re-gained it's independence in 2004.

The Economy of Taibei

The economy of the Socialist Democratic Union of Taibei is that of a developed nation, functioning on a level that is "Frightening". It's major industries are the Argricultural, Electronics manufacturing, Timber, Shipping, Construction and Paper production industries.

Industrial growth is expected to be heightened as the socialist government completes the construction of industrial estates outside of the main cities. These industrial estates are meant for the nation to increase production at a higher level, combined with the current industrial level that is being produced by the main cities. This allows more diverisfication in the economy and will cause a greater economic performance.

As they enter official petroleum and gas production, it is expected that the revenues from the exportation of oil and gas would allow the socialist government to distribute them into public services funds and bring in needed manufacturing machinery to supplement economic performance.

All economic decisions are made by the Ministry of Socialist Economics (MSE). The MSE is responsible for distribution of revenue generated by all of the nation's industries and re-invests them into the most needed sectors of society and the economy as there is no real tax structure in the nation. Like Gosplan in Caselonia, the MSE pays workers on the amount of time and labor-power they have contributed to the economy based in the sector of the economy they work in and that is the amount that is given to them through the minimum wage of TN1000/$2000USD. People who do not put in the minimum amount of labor-power and time into the economy would be payed half of the mininum (TN500/$600USD). The only things that would be allowed by the state is if you are ill or if you are disadvantaged. Families that are below the proverty line and families of those that are unemployed recieve a minimum state subsidy or welfare that helps them get the things they need to purchase. This subsidy would halt once the person or persons that support that family is provided work by the state.

HISTORY

Early History (20,000,000 years ago - 6,000 years ago)

20,000,000 years ago, the Taibeianese Islands, the islands and mainland part of Cherisovia were all apart of a long landbridge that connected the Fuerzan and Saburidan continents. However, by 10,000,000 years ago - most, but not all of the landbridge was sunken due to a rise in sea level. the pieces of land that remained would become the Taibeianese islands, and the islands and mainland of Cherisovia.

By 6,000 years ago, the indigenious peoples of Taibei, the Shonto tribe, a tribe that had it's orgins in the southeastern parts of Saburidia - had arrived and gradually popluated all of the Taibeianese islands. By 1,000 years ago, the rural groupings of Taibeianese throughout the Taibeianese islands began to gather around chieftains called Kions and began to form kingdoms throughout the Taibeianese islands. These little kingdoms, called han in Taibeianese, eventually became three kingdoms; Miyako-Han, Taibei- Han and Honku-Han in the late 1000's. The three kingdoms period had begum.

Three Kingdoms Period (late 1000's - 1523)

After the formation of the three kingdoms of Miyako-Han, Taibei-Han, and Honku-Han in the late 1000's, the three kingdoms had begun to fight with each other - making attempts to conquer one another and to expand their power. this "in-fighting" continued for over 500 hundred years - yet; during this time of fighting - the war between the three kingdoms always remained at a stalemate - there was no one who discisively break the stalemate and allow his or her kingdom to win the war. Then in the early 1520's, the young king of Taibei-Han, Nanta Korutsu, managed to conquer both Honku-Han and Miyako-han and unified the kingdoms as the Kingdom of Taibei.

The Kingdom of Taibei (1523-1879)

After the unification of the kingdom in 1523, the Taibeianese aristocracy established it's headquarters in Shurinovku Castle, and ruled directly from there. They standardized the Taibei Main Island dialect of Taibeianese, increased communication with the Monaks in nearby Cherisovia, and made Taibei into a regional trading center. Taibeianese culture developed and thrived during this time as more people in the Kingdom began to develop traditions that are still dominate today. Trading also influenced the Taibeianese language to the extent that it became closely related with the dialect of Southern Cherisovia, although the Monaks and the Taibeianese were distinct ethnic groups. thanks to communication with Caselonia - Taibeianese was now being written down as a language by using the cryillic alphabet. by the late 1800's, Taibei was in a weak militarial position, although it had a thriving economy based on trade. Because of it's weak defenses - it was taken over by Francestan in 1879 as a base of operations.
