In the SAGA-6 setting, Technomagic (also called "Technomajick", "Tekhnomagic" and other variants) is a type of magic that harnesses the immense powers produced by the Transentian machines and their energy source, Uranium. Technomagic had been developed by the Alliance's head alchemist Alexej Septimus. Uses include Auto-Mailing, spell-casting machines, energy generators that give of energy that can be used by mages instead of solely relying on their own Mana, soul transfer and, recently, Nanite/Uranium infusion.

Understanding the basics of SAGA-6 magic

There is a wide array of different schools and theories for the practice of magic in SAGA-6. Them main schools, measuring by what achieves the best results, are Shadow Skill magic practiced by the warriors of Shang Di, and, diametrary opposed Alchemy, supported and practiced by the Empire. However, all schools are based on the same kind of power and only differ in the use. This power, you might call it Mana or Chi, is a power that is bound within all objects: stones, rivers, the sky, fire and a huge source is the human mind. The Empire found a way to measure this power in "SP". While some entities might hold vast amounts of power, it is almost impossible even for an high-level archmage to effectively extract this power and forge it into useful spells with his mind and the relevant rituals, words or gestures. This is were Technomagic comes into play. The machines that the army returned from Transentia produced lots of power, like any ordinary machine on our world would, aswell. The energy output by a small fission reactor easily soared into thousands of SP, comparable to a medium-sized mountain range, which would take centuries to extract all SP from. Even a small lump of what became to be known as "Energy Crystals" (really being Uranium rods used to power fission reactors on Transentia) gave of enough energy to supply a mage with power for even high-level spells. All that boundless energy is in an almost pure form and can easily be accessed by any mage.

Thus, Alexej Septimus first started forging these crystals into amuletts and rings to be worn by mages to further their magic power. These accessoires became widely used in the Imperial Army, though they were handled with care and sealed behind powerful spells when not used, to block Transfomation Magic they radiatet into the area (which was really radioactive radiation). Later Septimus used crystals powering animation spells in order to bypass the insufficient knowledge about how to operate a machine, and create automatic combat units for the Empire.

Devices and Techniques based on Technomagic

Magichines

Machines tht power magic are commonly called Magichines.

Hex

A type of steam-powered machine that has three arms and can cast spells. It can do this much faster than any human mage. Spells include Water, Mass Water, Ice, Mass Ice, Fire, Mass Fire, Thunder, Mass Thunder, Earth, Mass Earth, Wind, Mass Wind, Venom, Dazzle and others. Magic energy forced into rudimentary logical cycles and functions using runes and other magic symbols are used to give these machines a rudimentary AI. They often perform patrol and guard duty, but can also be used to supplement regular forces and shock troops.

Arch-Hex

Called the "mechanic alternative to an archmage", Arch-Hex's spells are much more powerful. It is powered not by an ordinary, coal-burning steam engine, but Uranium. Spells include all Greater and Mass spells except for Light and Darkness. It can also cast status magic, Burst and Radiate, all of which it can cast much more effective than a human magus.

Octiropus

Octiropuses, named after the octopus and Octirone, the color of magic, are devices that can be strapped on the back by a magus. Six arms protrude from the device, imitating any spell the wearer casts. This gives a total of four spells with each spell that is cast - one from the wearer, the others from the machine. Octiropus devices do not give the wearer any protection while ruling out wearing any additional armor (which is often ruled out anyway by the limited phyiscal capablities of a mage) so lately variants have been developed that incorporate different types and locations of armor. Some variants also use Uranium powering to power their spells or reinforce the movements of their wearer, but no variant has yet been developed to possess enough physical strength to use it in direct combat. The new types are called Octiropus +1 and Octiropus +2, respectively.

Auto-Mailing

Mind Transfer

Nanite Infusion

Frigate

The Frigate, also called Excalibur Frigate, was an underwater armor that was used by the Coaltition States / Holy Alliance during the Atlantis Raid. It is unknown wether Frigate was developed solely for that purpose or if it had been developed earlier. The weapon featured a female torso and head sticking out of a massive weapons array that was encased in a water-proof shell that would be released from a carrier ship on the water surface on a miles-long wire. The pilot would sit inside the torso. The Frigate was armed with two torpedo tubes on each side of the torso, a laser cannon in each of the eyes and a sonic weapon inside the mouth. This sonic weapon fired a magic-enhanced sound called "Fascination" that would enchant and hypnotize many opponents, but could also be used to wreak major havoc on hardened targets, like the Vaults of Atlantis. Due to the Psi-Com interface compatiblity, the Frigate could only be piloted by female pilots, and Selene was the only one who ever used it. Frigate was heavily damaged by Luna and her companions when they defended Atlantis from the Coalition States, but apparently it was later retrieved by the Coalition Navy, since it is repaired and is later, with its controls replaced by a mage coding similar to that of the Hexes, used to fight and destroy one of the Ultimate Weapons, the maritime Leviathan, a process in which the weapon is finally and inevitably destroyed.

The carrier ship, a Frigate, was also armed with SSMs for defense against surfacial threats and used the Frigate only as a weapon against submerged targets.

Shiva

An armor developed by Alexej Septimus to destroy the ramapant Ultimate Weapon. Shiva consists of heavy armor powered by Uranium and incorporates an Octiropus device that has enough power to self-sufficiently power all spells it casts.
