The term 'Tenka Fubu' has multiple meanings. It refers either to the region of Tenka Fubu, or to the Tenka Fubu Alliance headed by Feudal Japan.

This page is dedicated to the region of Tenka Fubu. For information about the alliance, visit the Tenka Fubu Alliance NSWiki page.

Background

The region of Tenka Fubu was originally founded for the purpose of protecting the term Tenka Fubu from use by parties unfriendly to Feudal Japan, whose founder was using the term to describe that region's mission to protect small regions from invasion.

The region of Tenka Fubu was initially established as a Kuni province, but following an update to the Tenka Fubu Alliance Membership Agreement and other laws it has since become a Ryoguko province of the Alliance, under that term's new definition.

Current Regional Status

The region of Tenka Fubu has since taken on a life of its own, although it continues to lack a structured government and does not (often) proactively recruit for itself. When the region of Feudal Japan is password protected, Tenka Fubu occasionally serves as a gateway region for nations to express interest in obtaining the Feudal Japan password (similar to the security model that has been used by Nasicournia).

There exists Tenka Fubu Alliance legislation that recognizes the region of Tenka Fubu as the back-up ruling province of the Tenka Fubu Alliance, should the region of Feudal Japan ever fall victim to invasion.

Real Life Definition of "Tenka Fubu"

The following is for information only; the aggressive RL (real life) meaning of the term Tenka Fubu does not have bearing on the Alliance or its mission as it has been defined within NationStates.

"Tenka Fubu" literally translates as "under the sky, practice force". It has a double meaning, the first being "to acquire the world, one must use military means". The second being "one must rule his empire by force".

The 4 words were written by Akechi Mitsuhide and presented to Oda Nobunaga when they first met. It was presented to him as a present as well as to show how he can acutely read Nobunaga's ambition to conquer Japan, and prescribe how he should do it. At that time Nobunaga was only a minor lord, nobody could have guessed he would eventually unite Japan. Interestingly, much later it was Mitsuhide who killed Nobunaga, claiming Nobunaga's "Tenka Fubu" was cruel and wrong. Although he had conquered and united Japan, the means he had employed were inexusable. Many people had died, and Japan had sufferred.

Wikipedia has a small article on it although it doesn't tell the above story: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oda_Nobunaga

As an ideology, Tenka Fubu is a direct opposite of "rule by benevolance/peace" advocated by Lao Tzu (an ancient Chinese thinker and contemporary of Confucious, he is the same person who started the concept of "Tao" or "The way", and the concept of ying/yang).
