The Alutian-USM Ambassador Incident is an incident in late 2082 which almost caused a war between several prominent Mars Treaty Organisation members. Several newspapers reported afterwards, that the incident almost caused United States of Mars President Jay Daniels to resign.

The Build-up

The United States of Mars's Anti-Terrorism Agency, IS4, had been investigating a possible build up of terrorist arms inside the country. The investigation eventually led to several arrests at address across Kantar.

At one address, IS4 officers reported seeing several files which contained information linking the Alutian Ambassador to the USM to terrorists, one file even contained information which suggested the Ambassador had been personally financing terrorists. It is believed that the terrorist arrested at that address had set off a virus, which destroyed all the information on the computer.

After USM President Jay Daniels was informed, he quickly decided that the information could not be ignored and informed the Alutian Embassy that the Ambassador was no longer welcome in the country. The President gave the Ambassador 24 hours to leave the country and it appeared that the Ambassador was willing to leave.

The Death

Several hours after the Ambassador was asked to leave the country, security at the Alutian Embassy discovered two masked people entering the Ambassador's office where they shot him.

The embassy's security says that several key security systems had been disabled which allowed the assailants to enter the building, kill the Ambassador and leave without being apprehended. The Alutian government has said that apart from the Alutian security forces inside the embassy, no-one had access to the information required to disable the system.

After the death of the Ambassador was reported to the Alutian Capital City, the Alutian President called an emergency meeting of MTO leaders. He also moved a fleet of military ships close to USM space.

The Inquiry

As MTO leaders met, both Alutia and the USM were getting evidence together to prove their point. The Aluians gave evidence which included security footage of the embassy, telephone conversations and other recorded communications. The USM gave evidence which tried to find other suspects. One of their suspects was a terrorist group who would benefit from the end of a USM - Alutia relationship.

After several hours of talks, it was finally decided that the USM had proberbly not been involved but a further inquiry was to take palce at a later date.
