'''The DEN HQ''' was founded by General Franks after the founder of 'The DEN', General Tommy Franks was deleted (along with his puppet nation, The New DEN) for making threatening remarks to another player. Other senior members of the organization have since retired and, DEN successfully regrouped in DEN Military HQ.

To cap a rough month for him, General Franks later lost his other main nation, Mississippi Rio (founder of Ille de France). This sudden deletion (due to threatening another nation with actions which are the sole responsibility of the moderators) surprised many in the ostensibly tolerant region of Ille de France who were unaware of the breadth of their founder's Nationstates activities. Certainly, as General Franks would say himself, it is hard to "get traction" on all his interests, but it seems the labyrinthine web that the DEN leader and IDF founder has woven in Nationstates is even more labyrinthine than we suspect. The new Ile de France has now over 400 nations and he is rumoured to be involved in over ten offensive militaries around the globe.

General Franks has now retired from the DEN (although has created a new nation General T Franks) and has handed the role of Field Marshal to Grippsholm who has founded DEN Military HQ.  This was the post that General Franks made when he announced the change in command:

With the forthcoming one year anniversary of the DEN army on the 27th of this month, it is my great honour and privilege to announce that Lieutenant General Grippsholm will be the new DEN Field Marshal effective 27th February.

As you all know, Grippsholm has been an active and committed trooper in DEN for many, many months and has always been a strong advocate for the organisation. A veteran of many campaigns and one of the original 'DEN revolutionaries' that helped establish The DEN region, Grippsholm is no stranger to the cut and thrust of the raiders life.

I joined DEN as a Private shortly before the founder nation was deleted in the first DEN home base, and have been actively raiding in every single DEN region to date. Having run missions for eight months and having been Field Marshal since 31st August 2004, the one year anniversary marks six months of my command of the DEN army and the time is right for a change in leadership to move DEN into its second year of successful operation.

My time as Field Marshal in DEN has not been without controversy and I make no apologies for that. Indeed, I am particularly conscious that it has been my decision to promote and develop a ruthless and fiercely independent raider force and have always encouraged troopers to stand firm in the face of propaganda, defender criticism and heavy-handed moderator actions.

Moreover, I have always sought to elevate troopers in rank for quality raiding without any personal bias and have taken the time and attention to ensure that DEN has the strength and depth to be able to perform well under any circumstances. DEN has one of the most respected raider capabilities in NationStates, it has an active core of troopers who identify targets, infiltrate defender organisations, run missions, found regions, disseminate misinformation and hold delegacies without fear or favour. DEN raids 24 hours a day, seven days a week and has troopers logging in from all over the world.

It has been my utmost pleasure to serve as Field Marshal in DEN and I look forward to the continuing success of the organisation under Field Marshal Grippsholm. I ask that all troopers get behind Grippsholm, congratulate him on his appointment and help ensure that his tenure as Field Marshal is another great era for DEN.

I would like to whole-heartedly thank all troopers, past and present, with whom I have had the privilege to raid alongside. I urge all troopers to support the new Field Marshal, to celebrate and enjoy the one year anniversary of the DEN army, and to maintain the excellent standard of raiding that DEN is known for across NationStates.

To mark the second year of DEN and the appointment of Field Marshal Grippsholm, the DEN army will be moving to a new home base, DEN Military HQ. This new region will be open shortly and I politely request that all troopers please move to our new centre of operations. All DEN working nations, DEN Media Affairs, DEN Recruitment, DEN Quartermaster and DENology will be under the command of Grippsholm from the 27th February.

I have mentioned before that DEN is the sum total of the individual contributions of all troopers and as we work well, DEN works well. I would like to congratulate each and every one of you for your activity, commitment and passion for raiding, without which, DEN would not have the prominence and reputation for effectiveness that it enjoys today.
