Location

Metropolitan Cadorn is located in the District of Cadorn, Domnonia. The city lies 5600 kilometres East of Miervatia, Mikitivity.

Cadorn is situated on the delta of the Domi river which is crossed by seven bridges within the city limits. The city covers an area of 844 sq. kilometres which includes over 72 sq. kilometres of riverbank parklands.

Environment

Cadorn is one of the sunniest cities in Domnonia, receiving an average of 2,381 hours annually. Cadorn experiences four distinct seasons with temperatures ranging from 45°c (on the warmest summer days to -30°c (-22f) on the coldest winter days. The average annual precipitation level is 347.2mm.

Cadorn was rated the number one city in Domnonia for air and water quality by Owl magazine.

Time Zone

Cadorn uses the Central Domini Time zone year round. Daylight-saving time is not followed.

Economy

The District of Cadorn, and it's sister province, Lindinis, grow the entire quantity of Domonia’s major export crop: Tea. Cadorn is the financial, service, and technological heart of this market, providing a variety of services and products to the tea sector. Mining is also an important part of the economy. The District of Cadorn is the IDU's largest exporter of uranium, and nearly two-thirds of the IDU's recoverable potash reserves are located in the Yns Mon region. (see Resource Map)

Financial Services, and Public Services are the main employers within the Metro Cadorn Area. Communications technology is one of the fastest growing industries in the District of Cadorn, which is considered the technology capital of Domnonia. Cadorn was named "one of the best cities in the IDU for knowledge based businesses" by the NationStates Times in 2004.

Population

Cadorn is Domnonia's largest city with 9% of the Federations citizens residing within the metro area. The District of Cadorn is home to 22% of the entire nations population.

History

The Cadorn area has been inhabited for some 6,000 years; however, it was not until the summer of 1283 that the first permanent settlers began to arrive from the Eastern Keeslands and subsequently in 1303 that the town charter was obtained. "Cadorn" is derived from 'CA-DA-DOMIR-NIA', the Old Domini name for a local indigenous tealeaf.

Education

With access to excellent k-12 schools, technical schools and the University's of Domnonia, Cadorn, Delaini, Verana, Preston, Kernow, and Confederation; many educational opportunities are available.

The University of Preston is the only university in Domnonia to house all five health science colleges and a major teaching hospital on the same campus. Some of the first experiments undertaken aboard the space shuttle were a result of research conducted at the University of Preston. Innovation Place, located on the University of Cadorn grounds, is one of the most successful university related research parks in the IDU.

Attractions and Events

Cadorn is a four season destination with much to offer visitors. History comes alive at many exceptional museums such as the Dominia Development Museum and its popular Mainstreet Boomtown 1910. Six thousand years of habitation can be explored at Camadominia Heritage Park.

Many festivals and special events are celebrated annually. From Winterfest in February, to the ethnic celebrations of Folkfest and Vesna, to the Democracy Day parade, to the world renowned Cadorn Jazz Festival, to the innovative Shakespeare on the Domi River events and the popular Cadorn Exhibition Fair, the good times are guaranteed.
