The Democratic Workers Union of The Icy Angel is notable among other capitalist states for its strong presence of independent labor unions.

The main island of The Icy Angel is located in the South China Sea southeast of Hainan. In 1790, Swedish explorer Carl Arosen visited the island. Arosen named the island Green Wave for its mountainous jungles, which resembled giant waves. Until then, the island was relatively uninhabited. Methodist missionaries established a mission called Old Main at the summit of Angel Peak, the highest point on the island. As the influence of the mission grew in the surrounding region, the island itself began to be known as The Icy Angel.

Between 1790 and 1840, almost 500 Methodist missionaries departed from The Icy Angel to make converts in the now extant Aisin Gioro empire on the Chinese mainland. A large portion of these converts were Cantonese and stayed in The Icy Angel through indentured servitude to the Swedish empire. Fearing the growth of Swedish imperialism, Emperor Pinyin of Aisin Gioro declared war on the island in 1849. At this time, many Cantonese from Aisin Gioro fled their country to The Icy Angel where there were better standards of living, even under servitude to Swedish masters. The war led to huge casualties on both sides. After five years, a withdrawal of both sides from the island was declared at the Treaty of Shenzhen. The Icy Angel was now a sovereign state, and the reminders of bloodshed prevented other colonial powers from claiming the island.

A major figure in the 1854 liberation of The Icy Angel was Reverend Luke Shum. He had strong ties to both Aisin Gioro Pinyin and the leadership of the Swedish Methodist Church, and was invaluable in the discussion for independence. With other influential figures in The Icy Angel, Shum enacted a constiutional democracy and established a liberal progressive party, the Protestant Socialist Party (PSP). The PSP headed a coalition of parties that remained in office under different names until 2004.

In November 2004, The Icy Angel joined Confederacy of Green Waves under the leadership of Ethel Tang, the first female prime minister. The Confederacy was established to unite several nations in military and foreign policy. Tensions within the Confederacy led to the foreign occupation of Old Main, which was at the time the private residence of a high-ranking diplomat. A new government emerged under the minority coalition, led by a mysterious figure known only as Jin. Even after foreign occupation, controversy still surrounds this change in power. Neither the Angel Triads (The Icy Angel's largest criminal organization) nor Yee LLC (The Icy Angel's largest corporation) have been prosecuted for their publicly acknowledged involvement.

Although shady and corrupt, Jin's government continued The Icy Angel's trend of long-term growth in almost every sector. During Jin's administration, The Icy Angel withdrew from the Confederacy and joined the Invaders, a collection of nations bent on world domination. Speculators realized that long-term commitment to this league would prove disastrous to the national welfare, and Jin pulled out of Invaders and joined East Asian Dominion. On April 29, 2005, Jin was replaced by Ross Cathweiler, an influential foreign-born businessman, through the Return to Direct Democracy movement.

-Political System-

The Icy Angel Worker's Administration operates according to direct democracy, by which citizens cast a daily vote for all their politicians through a wireless ballot network accessed via cellphone, public phone, fax, internet, or Mobile Wireless Personal Ballot Indicator (FreeBallot). Over 1,200 people apply as delegates. Regardless of party or coalition, the 35 delegates with the highest electoral votes become members of the Senate.

They serve three duties: Secrataries who manage individual administrative divisions based on their previous knowledge and experience, Senators who pass government bills and resolutions, and Justices of the Supreme Court who deal with cases that have been unresolved by lower courts.

The 'Prime Minister' is the senator with the most votes in the most powerful party in the most powerful coalition.

Enlisted Officers, and Presidents of corporations that own more than 50 percent of their sector, are prevented from joining the government. Corporations, nevertheless, are allowed to fund political campaigns as much as they want. This may change soon, however, under the new Cathweiler administration.

Political coalitions used to be a predominant force in Angelic politics, but split apart in 2004 due to their inefficacy in maintaing the balance of power.

-Major Parties-

Clean Government Party (CGP): A new party supported by foreign nationals and the Angelic intelligensia. Has government reform as its number one domestic priority, and strictly isolationist in international military policy. As a previously nonexistent party, it is gaining many of the votes from former PS2 and CSI members. Supports Ross Cathweiler, an influential Swedish investor. Currently 38%.

Holy Shinto-Buddhist Coalition (HSBC): A right-wing party with an agenda favoring strong alliances with Japanese nations and The Terra Corporation against growing leftist powers in China, Korea, and elsewhere. Led by the mysterious figure with the pseudonym 'Jin,' who resigned due to the substantiation of gross sexual relations claims. Party finds most of its support among members of popular culture, college students, and the working class, as well as former members of ASP and NAFTA. Currently 34%.

The Marxist Angel of Equality (TMA): With about 15% of the vote, this new party is quickly emerging in the Angelic political scene. The TMA wants to return The Icy Angel to its original socialist values of cooperation with other socialist nations worldwide, as well as values typically associated with international green parties. Supported by environmentalists, socialists, and the working class, as well as former PS2 and ASP members.

Shihuangdi Fascist Alliance (SFA): An ultraconservative party by The Icy Angel's standards, but would be considered a moderate party in most countries. Currently backing Peter Moy, former Major General of The Icy Angel Combined Armed Militia (essentially a corporate convict army). Supported mostly by younger business professionals in favor of establishing The Icy Angel as the predominant East Asian powerhouse. Although a recently-formed party, it is gaining many of the votes from former PS2 and CSI members who believe that the CGP is weak in its international policy. Currently has about 10% of votes.

Catholic Socialists International (CSI): A center-right party led by wife and husband Ethel and Henry Tang. Due to its inefficacy during the Confederacy War, the support for this party has dwindled from 45% in October 2004 to 3% in May 2005. Former supporters have joined every other party in nearly equal proportions. Political analysts believe that this party may end very soon.

-Nonexistent Parties-

Protestant Socialists Two (PS2): This huge party officially incorporated with the CGP in May 2005. Members are currently split between the CGP, SFA, and TMA.

Atheistic Socialist Party (ASP): This medium-sized party split and closed in February 2005, with some joining the HSBC and others joining TMA.

Neo-Anti-Fascist-Terrorism Alliance (NAFTA): This small party officially incorporated with the HSBC in November 2004.
