History of The Cup
The Lancre Cup is a monthly football tournament competed in by nations in the region of Lancre. It was originally started by Sirocco in June 2003 to encourage nations to join Lancre and also as a pastime for the region. It proved to be amazingly popular and is probably one of the reasons the region was such a success. After the first eight Cups Sirocco stopped organising it due to Moderator duties eating up his spare time. After a long break, Bestiville decided to begin organising the cup again, and did it for a few cups, followed by Dregruk. Our current organiser is Yesnono.
Rules and Scoring
The Lancre Cup is easy enough to take part in since the amount of involvement you want is entirely up to you. Every nation in Lancre is entered into the Cup automatically but those not wishing to take part are free to quit if they wish. All nations are drawn against each other randomly into heats. The winners of these heats progress to the quarter finals, then the semi-finals and so on and so forth.
The way the scoring system (co-designed by Sirocco and Bellenia) works is complicated, as it was wanted for the scores to be as realistic as possible (though nations do frequently score upwards of four goals). An even more complicated system was devised so that nations that performed well in previous Cups would have an advantage in the next one (because, in Real Life, teams like the Faroe Islands do not alternatively get crushed in the qualifying sessions and win finals). This was devised by an ex-nation called Bellenia and it solved many problems - now not only would there be more consistency to results, it wouldn't be so strict that the best teams always won and the worst ones always lost - even the most abysmal of Lancre teams can make it through to the big time if they're lucky.

The Roleplay Factor
The organiser of the Cup writes a small review of each match with a humorous slant along with the final results. Sadly, Lancre's website, along with its archive of Cup roleplay, is no longer extant. Three cups, though, were roleplayed in the NationStates forums, so you can search for "Lancre Cup" there, and there is a fourth about to start.
Participants can feel free to write about their team, their fans, their stadia, etc. and submit it to the main thread in the Nationstates forum. Please note that anything you write may be used against you by the organiser (ie. your robot team may short out in the rain).

Lancre Cup VIII: Sliponia (2nd place: SAF 3rd place: Rob Anybody) and the host of the Cup was Englishman.
Lancre Cup IX: Sirocco (2nd place: DTAS LAND 3rd place: Bongostan) and the host of the Cup was Sliponia.
Lancre Cup X: Dregruk (2nd place: LostLotheria 3rd place: Sirocco) and the host of the Cup was Sirocco.
Lancre Cup XI: Abandoned (Contenders: Tonca, Docere, Peng-pau, Hoge, Aamericaa, The Big Little People, Pazdom, Treynna, Vtorbetin, -Arynth-, Gandhi Followers, Rachel's Insanity, and Sirocco) and the host of the Cup was Dregruk.
