Overview

These 2 nations make up the wide-spread Malsonic island chain, numbering over 50 islands, on the outskirts of The Golden Triangle. All nations were once united, but a recent flare up in civil and political tensions have torn it apart, resulting in the conservative West, the liberal East, and the confederate north.

Brief History

Native Malsonal

Natives of the Malsonic countries arrived around 2300 BC, from the north, on to the island of Lindssholm. The natives continued to push south, exploring the island chain for about 1500 years. Meanwhile, the original settlement of Glukjuustenia grew to a surprisingly large amount considering Lindssholm's icy coldness. Malsonic natives founded towns all over this archiapelago, and grew in relative unawareness of each other for some reason. Eventually, they rediscovered each other and formed the Allied Nations of the Malsonic Archiapelago in 6 BC, about the same time other civilizations discovered them too.

The First Malsonic Civil War

The forerunners to the current civil war that has split this nation in half arised from much the same things. It arose in 750 A.D. as the conservative northern, "original" Malsons saw themselves superior to the southern, liberal "materialistic" Malsons, and strove to rule Malsonal. The north split and formed the Confederation of Northern Malsonal, while the south became the Allied States of Southern Malsonal. The war, as historians have now classified it, began as the newly-formed Confederation of Northern Malsonal Civil Defense Pact Army (CNMCDPA) advanced south onto Oldhurst, and constructed a base after taking the island by storm. Northern Malsonal continued slowly pushing south until a decisive stalemate on Qualstaania, in 796 A.D. Then Southern Malsonal pushed north until another stalemate on Oldhurst. The war went back and forth like this for nearly half a millenium, until 1248 A.D., when the leaders of the Confederation of Northern Malsonal, and the Allied States of Southern Malsonal signed a peace treaty, and formed the Republic of Malsonal.

Malsonal in the Middle Ages

Malsonal became a peaceful place during the Middle Ages, although there were slight tensions between the Conservatives and the Liberals, which had now became the west and east. During this time, some Britons and some Germans had emigrated to Malsonal. The capital had also been moved from Glukjuustenia to the new port of Harpersville, due to the fact that Glukjuustenia was too cold to be capital. Conservatives objected, due to the fact that Harpersvile was deep in liberal Malsonal, so they agreed to build a new town, Bartonsburg, right between both the east and the west.

The Industrial Revolution in Malsonal

The Industrial Revolution saw Malsonal grow from a puny population of 700,000 in 1700, to 5,000,000 in 1950. It also saw Malsonal become quite the high-tech country, as companies sprung up in every division across the nation. Unfortunately, this saw the end of Glukjuustenia as an upstanding Malsonic town, which was a shame, as it was for nearly 4 millenia. It's population would sadly decrease for 200 years from 75,000 in 1700 to just 1,000 in 1900.

The Word Wars and Malsonal

During the World Wars, the Germans and English in Malsonal became great rivals, which nearly tore Malsonal apart. Most Germans joined the conservatives in western Malsonal, and the English the liberal east. The west attempted to ally Malsonal with Germany, while the east attempted to do the same with Britain. Then-leader Martinnius Juddllerssonn, from the neutral north, stayed neutral, not only because of his roots, but in order to not upset either side. He increased police control in order to keep the Germans and British under control, which worked well. He would last in command from his inaugaration in 1910, until his death in 1950.

Modern Malsonal

During the Cold War, Malsonal continued with it's neutral stance, but was developing nuclear weapons secretly in case any big threat came abound. Once the Cold War ended, Malsonal continued to produce nuclear weapons, although they are now dismantling old ones to get the uranium fo Malsonal's many nuclear power stations. In 1991, Malsonal was split in half, due to the Bartonsburg Stadium Complex bombing.

The Second Malsonic Civil War

The Second Malsonic Civil War arose due to the Bartonsburg Stadium Complex bombing. The Liberals and Conservatives blamed each other, and in 3 days Bartonsburg, was destroyed, and the Prime Minister Lorne Kullsen assassinated. Once again, bothe sides balmed each other, plunging Malsonal into anarchy until both sides agreed that it would be better to split the country in two, resulting in the Disputed Territories of East and West Malsonal. Early on, the war was similar to the Cold War, as both sides were in fear of each other. Meanwhile, to the north, citizens have panned and executed an undeground revolt that has seen the return of the old Confederation of Northern Malsonal. The Confederation of Northern Malsonal began the combat, taking the island of Oldhurst with little resistance. They have nearly taken the liberal east easily, although the conservative west was putting up quite a fight, at least until the battle of North Utersburg, where the Northerners easily won, crushing the spirit of the westerners. Northern Malsonal then finished off the West and the East, creating one, united Malsonal.

Geography

Climate

The Malsonic Archiapelago is wide-spead along the west, north-west and north coastlines of Golden Triangle. The southern tip has a mediterranean climate, while the literally-centuries old town of Glukjuustenia is the most northern established settlement in the world. Most of the islands are temperate, however.

Landscape

Being an archiapelago, about 50 of the 56 islands (89%) are low-lying. 3 more are small volcanic islands, and the last three are large. They are Lindssholm, Oldhurst, and Qualstannia. The now-extinct Mid-Malsonic Ridge runs through these islands

Malsonic Society

Ethnicity

Most Malsonic citiznes are decended from the original Malsons, with 40% of the population have original Malsonic blood in them. The English and Germans make up 55% percent, and the final 5% is classed as 'Other'. Most of these are Inuit who live on the north tip of Lindssholm.

Religion

Malsons have always, for some reason, not really gone into religion. The small(5%) minority that do follow religion are predominantly Jewish.

Language

4 different languages are spoken throughout the Malsonic Archiapelago. First is Modern Malson, spoken by 98% of the population. It is always used in national crises', but anything international is spoken in English, which 60% of the population speaks. Young Malsons have to pick between either English or German during High School. Third-most spoken is German, spoken by 40% of Malsons. Ancient Malson is nearly extinct now, only spoken by scientsts and some residents on Lindssholm.

Sports

Malsons have always been interested in things that go fast, and it only makes sense that the national sport is racing. The Malsonic Archiapelago Racing Orginization for Stock Car Auto Racing(MAROSCAR) is in it's 50th year, and as popular as ever. Another sport gaining popularity is car soccer, where teams of 5 cars engage in much the same thing as regular soccer.
