Overview

The Maritimes had been home to many cultures since time immemorial, but sadly, many of the traces of these early cultures were lost to the ravages of time, and plundering from neighbouring regions's museum curators. The first recorded settlement was by the Hectanoogans in 3400 B.C. according to the Platonian calendar, or in 1829 A.D. in modern calendars. (See The Most Serene Republic of Hectanooga). This region is mostly devoted to a peaceful co-existence with the surrounding sea and the expanses of lush boreal forests.

It is a beautiful and diverse region, with many lakes, islands, forests, parks, coastlines, lush valleys and mountainous regions. Some areas within this region are dominated by forests, others by potato fields, and still others are dotted with fishing villages and apple orchards.

The Maritimes isolate themselves from the other, more corrupt surrounding regions. They pride themselves on their up keeping of tradition and culture. No detail is too insignificant, nor is any culture knowingly neglected.

History

The diversity of The Maritimes can be attributed to the influx of several groups from regions all around the world. The most significant groups present to this day are the Hectanoogans, Gillises and People of the Isthmus, who, not surprisingly, live on an isthmus.

It was also discovered in 1916 that the people of the Dominion of Tirean na Mara, a group previously unknown to all but the Isthmusites, had in fact settled the isles north-east to present day Lalaii at the same time as the first Hectanoogeans were settling to the south-west.

The discovery of precious metals in the Maritimes in the 1910's propelled the region into the world spotlight. Settlers from other nations around the globe seeked to gain territory within the Maritimes, hoping to find quick riches. The first wave of immigration lasted approximately 10 years, during which these "new colonizers" made a name for themselves as greedy, dastardly, and outright rude citizens. Their letters of correspondence with family in their Old Countries showed that they in fact loved living in the Maritimes; they were oblivious to the damage they were causing to the local environment and existing cultures.

The first group of "new colonizers" were the Lalaiians. A corrupt dictatorship sprang from the introduction of Arms manufacturing technology to the Lalaiians. The present day leader of Lalaii, Ione Krajar, was responsible for the overthrow of the final dictator and created a peaceful democratic nation.

Following then Lalaiians during the decade of mass immigration were the Greater_Then_Youans, Allisonwonderlandeans, and Fyfeshirites.
