Overview

The NeoBritish Empire (sometimes shortened to NeoBritian or the Empire) is a country and sovereign state occupying Europe. The NeoBritish Empire has highly industrialised economy with the one of the largest gross domestic products in the region. The NeoBritish Empire is also one of the region's nuclear nations. Having been a major imperial power, it retains an important and influential role in international politics, helped by the dominance of the English language in such affairs. It is a member of the United Nations. It was an MP of the FCSTO Upper House of Parliament, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Prime Minister for the region of Birmnigham, and a Knight of the Order of the Gryphons.

History

The NeoBritish Empire is the latest of several unions formed over the past 420 years. The Act of Union (1823 AD) united all of what is now the kingdom, which had been slowly brought together over the past 100 years. A major industrial and trade power of the last century, this is thanks mainly to the development of a modern navy as well as the creation of private shipping and joint stock companies. It has always been an avid developer and user of Western ideas and practices most notably capitalism and parliamentary democracy. These attitudes produced the modern, prosperous, and technologically advanced nation that exists today.

Government and Law

The NeoBritish Empire is a constitutional monarchy, executive power being exercised by the prime minister and other cabinet ministers who head seperate divisions. These ministers are appointed by the prime minister and answer to Parliament, the nation's legislative body. The NeoBritish Empire does not have a written constitution and relies mostly on precedent and common law.

Though the monarch is head of state and technically holds all executive power, the prime minister is the one who acts as the head of the government. The government is answerable to the Parliament, from which the prime minister is often elected. The Parliament is made up of the House of Commons and the the House of Lords. Ministers do not have to come from Parliament, though they often do. The current prime minister is John Wilson of the Conservative Party, who has been in office since 2005.

In the NeoBritish Empire the monarch supposedly has great powers. Today, however, his or her role is largely ceremonial. The monarch still plays a part in Parliament and an Act of Parliament does not become law until it has been signed by the monarch. It is often suggested that an abolition of the monarchy be carried out and a republic established, however, the support of the monarchy remains far too strong for such an act. Currently the monarch is King Gregory V who accended to the throne in 1972 and was crowned the same year.

Parliament is the national legislative branch of the NeoBritish government and thus the ultimate legislative authority in the Empire. It is bicameral and composed of the elected House of Commons and the unelected House of Lords, whose members are either taken from the Peerage or appointed by the monarch. The House of Commons is the larger of the two houses. The House of Commons houses 164 members who are directly elected by the population. The House of Lords has 72 members (note this number fluctuates as new appointees are admitted or bloodlines die out).

The NeoBritish Empire's system of law is based on common law principles. The court system is headed by the Supreme Imperial Court. This consists of the Court of Appeal, the High Court (for all civil cases) and the Royal Court (for all criminal cases).

Economy

The NeoBritish economy focuses on free market and low taxation. Like most of the original industrialising countries, initially the NeoBritish Empire focused on industries such as shipbuilding, steel production, mining, and textiles. The service sector of the NeoBritish Empire is mostly financial services, mainly international banking. NeoLondon is one of the region's largest financial centers with the NeoLondon Stock Exchange and the NeoLondon International Financial Futures and Options Exchange. It also has one of the largest concentrations of foreign bank branches in the world.

The NeoBritish motor industry is a significant part of the industry sector. Civil and defence aircraft production is led by the Empire's largest aerospace firm, NeoBritish Aerospace (NeBA). The chemical and pharmaceutical industry is also strong in the UK, with the one of the world's largest pharmaceutical and biotech firms (Protus, Inc.) being based there.

Though the NeoBritish Empire's agriculture sector is realtively small, accounting for only 1.7% of GDP. The Empire has large coal, natural gas, oil, and mineral reserves. Primary energy production accounts for about 9% of the GDP, one of the largest in the world.

The currency of the NeoBritish Empire is the pound , represented by the symbol £. The Bank of NeoBritian is the central bank and is responsible for issuing currency. Control over the economy is exercised by the Chancellor of the Economy, but the Prime Minister is First Lord of the Treasury, with the Chancellor of the Economy being the Second Lord.

Military

The armed forces of the NeoBritish Empire are known as the NeoBritish Royal Armed Forces or His Majesty's Armed Forces. Their Commander-in-Chief is the British monarch, King Gregory V and they are managed by the Ministry of War. The armed forces are controlled by the War Council. The NeoBritish Empire is also one of the countries in Europe with a comprehensive nuclear arsenal.

The NeoBritish Royal Armed Forces are charged with protecting the NeoBritish Empire and promotes the Empire's wider security interests and its international peacekeeping efforts. The NeoBritish Empire fields one of the most powerful and comprehensive military forces in the world.
