The Albertan Patriots of The Nintendo Emerates is a massive, economically powerful nation, notable for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 7.862 billion are rabid consumers, partly through choice and partly because the government tells them to and dissenters tend to vanish from their homes at night.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defence, and Commerce. The average income tax rate is 100%. A powerhouse of a private sector is led by the Uranium Mining industry, followed by Arms Manufacturing and Gambling.
Citizens are barcoded to keep track of their movements, a National Academy regulates grammar and usage, the nation's drinking water tends to glow green at night, and it's a common sight to see angry commuters with grenade launchers mounted on their vehicles. Crime is crippling. The Nintendo Emerates's national animal is the Gunston, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the Meal Plan.
The Nintendo Emerates is one of the oldest and largest Nations native to Alberta, moving there after a short stay in Blue Comet, he quickly became a nation of major regional importance. The Nintendo Emerates (commonly referred to as NE) was the first Alberta Minister of Defense, the first nation in Alberta to breach the 5 billion-population mark, and one of the longest standing supporters of the Alberta People. The Most Dignified Gamer Sean was delegate of the great region of Alberta for almost a year during 2005-2006, and during his reign as delegate, has prevented at least 3 invasions and kept peace within the region of Alberta. The Nintendo Emerates is almost always ranked first in his region and usually within the top 100 for UN ratings.
The Canada Controversy: In May of 2004, a thread pertaining to vegetarianism was started on Canada's message board. The Most Dignified Gamer Sean, being a very opinionated and outspoken leader, voiced his opinion on the topic. Many in the region of Canada took these comments as insults to one of their most cherished Nations(and Prime_Minister_of_Canada), Checkers_McDog. Neither the reigning delegate of Alberta, IM nor The Most Dignified Gamer Sean would apologize for the remarks traded, as it was viewed as a statement of free speech. Checkers McDog would not start negotiations with Alberta unless the reigning delegate ejected and banned The Nintendo Emerates from Alberta. Because of this, inter-regional communications between Alberta and Canada were cut off, and all the nations of Alberta were banned from Canada's message board. The two regions have yet to resume talks.
