Philosophy behind "The Non Aligned States"

The Non Aligned States is a rapidly growing Region filled with a wide array of nations with varying interests and ideals. The common denominator for our member nations is the belief in the inherent right of nations to equality and self-determination. We believe that nations can govern themselves, and can work together for the common good of all. This unity of purpose must, however, be a voluntary choice for each nation and its citizens. There can be no forced compliance at the expense of freedom.

For the individual nation in The Non Aligned States, you are assured of a safe, supportive and friendly environment in which your nation may grow and develop. You also have access to the resources, knowledge and expertise of experienced nations and NationStates players to aid in your development as a player. The Region of The Non Aligned States has served as a terrific training ground for nations to develop the skill in senate negotiations, recruiting and formation of independent regions. The Non Aligned States supports the idea of "training for leadership," and strongly encourages those developed and developing nations that are ready for self-governance in a region of their own creation to follow the course; with The Non Aligned States' full blessing.

The Non Aligned States also offers a chance for players to socialize with people of many different interests. Topics of conversation range from political issues in the "real world" to the best video games on the market. We are a family of nations, and appreciate your membership and participation in the NAS.

Organization:

The Region of The Non Aligned States is organized as an interconnected network of nations; consisting of a central region of The Non Aligned States, and our sister regions of The NAS Army Camps. This structure is designed to provide ease of administration and efficiency for our member nations. We are all, however, one large family of nations, and exist for the mutual comfort and security of our citizens.

Protecting Our Future: The Army of The Non Aligned States

The NAS Army exists to protect the interests of the Region and its allies. It exists and functions as a defensive military force; one that is designed to repel attackers and, when necessary, eliminate hostile regions which seek to destroy the freedom and autonomy of The Non Aligned States and its allies. The Army functions under the direction of the The Non Aligned States Senate, with the Delegate of The Region acting as "Commander in Chief." Many of our sister nations serve as soldiers in defense of these principles, our Realm and our allies. They are not simply foot soldiers, however; they are valued member nations of the Region of The Non Aligned States. They are your family.

The Non Aligned States is Your Home, and Your Family

Take a moment to tour the Region, including The Non Aligned States and our NAS Army Camps. Speak with a few of your fellow members by telegram (TG) or here in The Embassy by instant message (IM) about their experiences and what they think of The Region. Please feel free to contact your Regional leaders---The President of The Region---and discuss their experiences as regional leaders. We are confident that you will enjoy what you see.

During your time with us, please know that The Non Aligned States remains your family, loyal friend and ally. We wish you the best of success during your development as nations, and look forward to growing with you. Welcome to The Non Aligned States, and Welcome Home.

UN Membership and Endorsements

"Endorsements" are available to member nations who have been accepted by the UN (make sure to check your EMAIL and return the message from the UN. If it is not there, try applying for UN membership again.) An endorsement offers several important opportunities for your growing nation.

An endorsement is the most valuable gift your nation may provide to a fellow Nation in The Non Aligned States. Endorsements mean that the nation which provides it has "vouched" for the credibility of the receiving nation. The number of endorsements you receive has a direct bearing on your status in The Region; the more you have, the greater credibility you have before the Senate--and thus more influence (which is the real goal of NationStates.)

Regional Leadership

Endorsements are also necessary for leadership positions in the Region. There are six (6) such positions in The Non Aligned States: UN Delegate and President of The Region, Vice President, Defense Minister, Immigration Minister, Foreign Minister, and Justice Minister. These are all elected and appointed positions. This does not include the positions of Camp Colonel (which functions similarly to the UN Delegate at the Camp level) and Camp Major.

UN Delegate and President

The UN Delegate position is the most powerful---and most coveted---of all leadership positions in any region. The UN Delegate LITERALLY controls the Region; deciding everything from which nations are admitted to the region, which ones are kept out, and may even expel nations from the Region after they are admitted! The Delegate controls access to the Region via passwords, and thus serves as the first line of defense for the Region against invasions.

The UN Delegate also serves as the official representative of the Region before the UN, and casts two (2) influential votes on behalf of the Region within the UN. The UN initiatives have a very real impact on the economies, environment and laws of member nations, so the UN Delegate votes are very valuable to nations attempting to influence the world through initiatives placed before UN.

Very simply, the UN Delegate position is the prize in every war fought in NationStates---you control the delegate position, and you control the Region.

Vice President

This nation serves as the right hand man/woman of the President and assists with the day to day running of the Non Aligned States. If the President needs to take a leave of absence or wishes to take a vacation then the Vice President will oversee the Government of The NAS while the President is away.

Defense Minister

This nation serves as the administrative head of The Army of The Non Aligned States. The Defense Minister serves under the authority of the The Non Aligned States Senate, The UN Delegate of The Region. The Defense Minister of The Non Aligned States is responsible for coordinating military actions authorized by the Senate (or, in times of emergency, the UN Delegate of The Region) through the use of the Camp Colonels.

Foreign Minister

The Minister for Foreign Affairs is responsible for fostering relationships with foreign regions. They shall maintain and establish all embassies in foreign regions that the President or the Executive Council deem necessary. They will be the ambassador and official representative of the region when communicating with foreign regions, unless the President or Vice-President chooses to represent the region in certain situations. They shall negotiate on behalf of the President treaties and other foreign policies, before submitting them to the General Assembly to be approved.

Justice Minister

This nation is responsible for drafting resolutions, implementing and researching NAS law and overseeing the appointed Regional Magistrate and any cases that may come before the Regional Courts of Justice. This minister is usually the first point of call for other ministers wishing to find out if there actions may breach the Constitution or regional law. The Justice Minister is directly appointed by the UN Delegate and President.

Immigration Minister

Finally, the Immigration Minister for The Region. This Minister is appointed by the UN Delegate and President. This minister acts to actively identify, evaluate and recruit the membership for The Region. The minister assists the UN Delegate of The Non Aligned States in controlling access to The Region for nations wishing to join. While all member nations may refer nations to the minister for possible admission, only the minister may officially nominate candidates for the Region's consideration. The minister's nominations are placed before the Senate for advice and consent.
