Introduction
The Pastocian Revolution was a key event in the development of the PEEL Region. For the first time in over a hundred years, a government had been overthrown in a revolution and a communist government set up in it's place. It sparked a chain of events which effected the entire region, and brought the first socialist nation to northern PEEL and the New American Continent.
Background
In the year 1771 STS, a new country was formed out of numerous city states and baronies which covered the area of modern day Pastocia. The most powerful state, Austria forged an alliance with it's once hated enemy, Imperial Hungary and conquered the rest of their neighboring states. They founded a new nation together, The Austro-Hungarian Empire and immediately it became a force to be reckonned with.
The Austrians became known worldwide as having one of the most power armies of footsoldiers in PEEL, and were fanatical supporters of the Church of the Archangel. This fanaticism caused the nation to constantly invade it's neighbors on the grounds of "Conversion" of their fellow PEELians. It was ruled by a series of tyrannical Emperors, all of the Mktaisan Dynasty, the ruling class of the Austrians for generations. They were an offshoot of the Imperial Slimmoleon Royal Line, and had close ties with the other royal regimes of the region.
For over 250 years, the Mktaisan Emperors ruled the land with an iron fist, and the citizens lived in constant fear and oppression. But by the early 2000's, some within the country became fed up with the gastly conditions of the working people in the country, and revolution was on their tongues.
One of those was a young school teacher from Castra in the far north named Nasti Pasti, or as many came to know him, Nasty Pasty. In early 2043, Pasty attended a conference for teachers in Zedoljev, a powerful and well-known Communist nation. While there, he learned more and more about that style of political government and philosophy and soon fell in love with it. He returned home, eager to teach the sheltered Austrian intellectual community and his school students about it. He soon created a local communist worker union, centered around the massive uranium mining industry around the city of Castra. But unknown to him, the all-pervasive Austrian government soon caught wind of this, and in an attempt to quell this rebellious idea, attempted to kill Pasty. A combat squad stormed his family's apartment in Castra, and killed everyone inside. Fortunately, Pasty was out at the time, but he returned home to find both his parents and younger sister slaughtered. His computer harddrive was confiscated, as were all of his books and literature surrounding communism.
For Pasty, this was the last straw. Joined by his cousin, Pastus Wilhelm and a number of others, they stormed the city's armory and after a quick confrontation with it's two guards, looted the weapons cache and fled into the Barbudos Mountains in the far north. Well known for being heavily forested and untouched by industrial development, it would be the perfect place to hide, and begin the long process of a revolution against the tyrannical government of Emperor Mktaisan VII. Only hours after, the Royal Army was fast on their tail, and the People's Revolution had begun...
