The Principality of Han, was previously known as another name: Chartwel. Once an island under the dominion of Great Britannia, it was since ceded to the Arch-Imperium of the Xheng Dynasty, forming the first overseas posession by the Arch-Imperium.

Territorial posessions of the Principality is that it is a small island, with several tiny smaller islands surrounding it. The majority of the population is the indigenous Kai tribe. These northern aborigionals have been given self-government by the Arch-Imperium as well as its previous government of the Great Britannians. The Kai people themselves form 40% of the Principality's population. There is another 20% that are from Great Britannia, 20% are from Ruderson, while the other 20% are new immigrants from the Arch-Imperium. The influx of so many cultures makes the urban scene on the Principality highly unique. It is far more multicultural and diverse compared to other nations due to its location within the sphere of many other cultural groups.

As a result of this blending of cultures, the cosmopolitan nature of the Principality has become a well known feature that tolerance for different ethnic groups is well recieved.

The closest nation to the Principality is Ruderson.

Government

Much like Chartwel itself, the Principality maintains a Westminster-styled parliament, that was created by Great Britannia. The Arch-Imperium since has high respect for the established system of government within the Principality and sees little reason to meddle with domestic internal affairs.

The significant difference is that Chartwel was transformed from a Colonial Territory to an Imperial Principality. This essentially created a federalist system where the Han Principality itself had to obey aspects of the Imperial Constitution on certain jurisdictions such as defense, diplomacy and taxation. Aside from that, like the other Imperiums of the Arch-Imperium, the Han Principality had large autonomy on domestic affairs.

The Government House is still the seat of government and the election symbols still follow. Instead the Prince of Han, Prince Han Jingto, is the head of state, representing the Emperor himself. Otherwise the majority of the Westminster styled traditions of pomp and ceremony still remain. An example of this, is that the Government still uses the traditional icon of the mace, whereas this is not used in Imperium governments.

Arch-Imperial vs Domestic Policies

Taxation, Defense, and Diplomacy are all fields where the Arch-Imperium of the Xheng Dynasty has authority. This is not to say that the Principality's Parliament has no saw whatsoever. Currently the tax rate within the Principality of Han, is kept at 2% flat for everything and everyone. This is a stunningly low tax rate that leaves the government of the Principality rather helpless in the face of large expenses. The Arch-Imperium allows the Principality 10% of tax responsibilities, meaning that the Principality itself can increase the total tax rate, to 12%.

For Defense, this matter is more strict. The Arch-Imperial Garrison of the Principality of Han, is permanently under the control of the Prince of Han. Though this is normally thought of as a ceremonial position, in truth it does hold power. The Prince of Han is commander and Chief of all military forces within the Principality's sovereign territories, including sovereign waters. If a visiting fleet or force of any Arch-Imperial military force is within their area, the Prince of Han automatically may assume command of that force. He is only overruled, in military authority, by the Prime Minister, the Imperial Proxy, and of course, the Xheng Emperor.

Diplomacy also is handled by Xi'an. There are consulates within the Principality, but Ambassadors are all recieved by the Arch-Imperium's government in Xi'an itself.

Economy

Due to its Federalist status, many would assume that the Principality is run much like the imperiums. However with the Principality's previous existance as Chartwel, it has been left alone to handle most domestic matters, except Taxation. With this issue under negociation still with the Arch-Imperium government, the island may become an established tax haven for foreign investment. Already the Principality is a valuable hub for tourism for those in Northern Europe who wish for a little exotic Xheng culture in their backyard.

There is a large service based economy and light industrial production for high tech needs as well. The Principality's wealth comes from this main source of income, along with tourism for its substantially good standard of living. It also serves as a vital central cruise ship port.

Geography

The Principality of Han is divided into 6 islands, which compose the Chartwel Islands. In terms of their geographical size, they are quite small. The smallest island is Blackpool Island. Chartwel Island is the largest by far, and the seat of government. In itself the island is extremely dense in population, more than 10 million people in the tiny area. For this purpose, much of the Principality's resources come externally, mainly from Ruderson. Chartwel Island itself is roughy rectangular shape, with 8 large bays to accomodate ships. These natural harbours make Chartwel a formidable naval base for the Arch-Imperial Navy, as well as civilan cruise liners that frequent the Hidden Sea.

To the south is Blackpool Island which has a small settlement of 200,000 people in Port Mary. South of Blackpool Island is Norwich Island. Norwich Island is home to several luxury hotels and casinos. It competes with Chartwel Island itself for vast tourism. Because it reaches certain oceanic currents better, Norwich Island and its settlement Port Henry are populat attractions.

The southern most island is Sheffield Island and its settlement of Port Richard. Sheffield Island is a holiday resort for Royal Star Lines. Port Richard is the southermost port. Its settlement has a population of 50,000 people one of the smallest of the settlements.

Chelsea Island is the second largest island in the Charwel Chains. Almost triangular in shape its northern point is marked with Port Victoria, the second largest city. Port Victoria has a population of roughly 300,000 people. Port Victoria is headquarters to the Changsha Oil Platform, which is the largest Oil Drilling platform that PetroEnerGen controls in the northern waters.

Wimbledon Island is the farthest east island from Chartwel and is a very close distance to Ruderson. This island is fairly small. Port Charles is located there and functions as a port for supplies and materials from Ruderson as well as other foreign nations arrive. Port Charles was an old British Fort used to protect the island chain from foreign attacks. However as the island chain itself became prosperous and the power of Great Britannia grew, there was little need for the fort itself. Port Charles since has reestablished the fort as a training base for the Arch-Imperial Navy.
