Geography

What is Irashiru?

Irashiru is a large, growing, country located in the Sheogorath region (Central Europe) and is a major power in the area. Irashiru has four major cities (Amn, Dssann, Dagon and Iru) which are dotted around the country, several towns and villages are also found within it's borders. Established in 1823 by Irashiru Kael, the leader of a group of wanderers who drifted from place to place after a great empire consumed their original homeland, Kaeshiru. They eventually found a fertile area of land which they settled in, it was named Irashiru.

Where is it located?

Irashiru is located in North Eastern Europe, to be specific is borders along the Baltic Sea. (What is known as Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in the real world.)

History

The founding of Irashiru

In 1823, Eastern Europe was a very different place to what is it just now. Most of it was dominated by a large country known as Red Heaven, (By it’s followers), but it’s official name was “The Empire of Valarghon” which was ran by a dictator known as Shurik Marshosky, the leading official of a totalitarian communist party. His main goal was to increase the spread of Communism throughout the world, a goal he chose to accomplish through means of invasion and sabotage. On the 3rd of April, 1873, the Empire of Valarghon descended on it’s next victim, a small country known as Kaeshiru. The people of Kaeshiru were peaceful and felt that it was best to remain neutral to all other events around them, a trait that cost them dearly later on, so that they could concentrate on internal affairs and make sure their own citizens were well looked after. But on what seemed like a normal, peaceful, Kaeshiru day, they were met with an event that they could never have predicted.

Kaeshiru lay on the borders of three countries: Giashu to the South East, Kiel to the West and Polias to the North. Polias was conquered by Valarghon in early 1823, and the other nations around Kaeshiru began to fear for their survival. Kiel decided that it would be best to increase it’s border defences against Valarghon and make sure that their army was ready to respond to any aggression, Giashu felt that it would be best to send a large group of their people abroad to set up a new colony which they would soon move the rest of their civilians to, Giashu was the only country to survive the conflict due to those actions.

At 13:00 o’clock on the 3rd of April, 1873, Kaeshiru border guards came under attack by a large force of Valarghon soldiers, several scouts managed to flee the battle to warn the capital, while those that stayed were either killed on the spot, or captured, only later to be executed. By 16:00 o’clock the forces of Valarghon had taken the entire north portion of Kaeshiru and were marching towards the capital, Jian. The Kaeshiru army had gathered outside of Jian but knew that they could not win this battle, there were eight thousand Kaeshirians against a twenty thousand strong Valarghon force, the civilians were ordered to grab what supplies they would need and head south to Giashu who upon news of the Valarghon attack had begun a wide spread evacuation and began writing up a document declaring the surrender of their current land to Valarghon (Who did not know about the newly founded colony), Giashu had also granted the Kaeshiru people the privilege of being allowed to use the same boats as the Giashu people, although, they did not want them to live in the newly founded colony as it was for the Giashu people only.

By 19:00 the Kaeshiru army was completely devastated and the capital of Jian had been sacked. The Kaeshiru government stayed to face the Valarghon threat and take whatever punishments it decided to act upon them for what they crimes they had apparently committed upon their people, i.e. the appointment of a non-communist government and the resistance against the Valarghon army.

Those that fled where led by a man named Irashiru Kael, born of poverty who then rose to the highest rungs of politics that a peasant could. He was given the task of ensuring that the Kaeshirians managed to arrive safely at New Giashu and then found a new country to live in.

When they arrived at New Giashu, the officials were very anxious to remove them from their land as they felt they would bring unwanted attention from the Valarghon empire, who was about a hundred miles away. The Kaeshirians where sent north into what was known as the “Green Wilderness”, but once they reached the coastline of the Baltic Sea they found an area of rich pasture land and began to set up a new country. They felt that if they named it Kaeshiru again it would attract unwanted attention, so they decided that they would adopt a similar name, and they chose the name of the man who had led them to their new land and who never gave up on how they should continue the lifestyle they once led. Irashiru Kael, the founder of the new country of Irashiru.

The Shu Conflict

This war is given the name Shu because it was fought between Irashiru and Giashu over the land established by Irashiru. Giashu claimed that Irashiru had taken land that was owned by them, and of course, Irashiru distinctly disagreed and soon both sides began to assemble armies in order to reinforce their point of view.

In 1826, New Giashu sent an ultimatum to Irashiru stating three demands. 1) The lower section of Irashiru, mainly the Jian Plains, will be handed over to the rulership of New Giashu, 2) The Irashiru army must cease it’s growth and hand over half it’s armaments to New Giashu and 3) Irashiru will pay reparations to New Giashu in coal to compensate for monetary loss without access to the Jian Plains.

Irashiru declined all three points of the ultimatum, and they sent it back with several edits, this is what it contained. 1) The lower section of Irashiru, mainly the Jian Plains, will be recognised as it is, a territory of Irashiru, 2) The Irashiru army will continue to grow as they see fit and New Giashu will have no say about it, and 3) New Giashu will leave Irashiru alone to grow and develop as it sees fit without making claims on it’s land or demands about it’s resources.

The New Giashu were outraged by the returned document and declared a state of war between Irashiru, but they had decided that they would not only seize control of the Jian Plains, but continue to march onwards and take all of Irashiru’s land. The New Giashu army marched on the Jian Plains and were met face to face by the Irashiru Army, the two sides then proceeded to launch into a fierce battle which lasted a full week. Both armies had a continuous supply of new troops and supplies making their way to the battlefield so by the end of the week the battle had reached a spiteful stalemate between the two armies. But Irashiru decided that they would not let it remain that way, they had enlisted the aid of Richanchu, a growing country just across the Baltic Sea, on the final day of conflict the Richanchu ships arrived just North West of the battlefield and proceeded to march to the aid of Irashiru, with both forces combined they managed to successfully break through the ranks of New Giashu soldiers and they then proceeded to chase them out of Irashiru territory.

The victory had come at a massive blow to New Giashu, the people were already concerned about the current government and this was the final blow for them, they disposed of the New Giashu government, an aristocracy, and then sent a message to Irashiru saying that they wanted peace between their people, and that they wanted their two countries to merge as a sign of that peace under the Irashiru flag.

The Shu Conflict ended with the dissolving of New Giashu and the forming of a larger Irashiru, this raised the peoples morale more and Irashiru set it’s foundation for becoming a powerful nation.

The Irashiru Civil War

The Civil War History

In 2003 Irashiru was split in two by a civil war, on one side were the Nevertians who wanted to remove the control of the Irashiru National Government, a corrupt party that was driving the country to ruins, and the Irashirian Nationalists who wanted to keep it in government.

There were several battles throughout the civil war ranging from city to countryside. Two of the battles were equally famous: the Battle of Shiraku Port and the Battle for Amn.

The Battle of Shiraku Port

Shiraku Port is a bustling city in Irashiru east of Irashiru in a small area of water known for it’s excellent fish output. On the other side of this massive lake is the Empire of Volghon (All that remains of Valarghon after it’s collapse) and in 2003 Volghon sent a battalion of troops across the lake in marine transports in order to launch an attack against Irashiru while it was in turmoil over the civil war, Shiraku was loyal to the Nationalists, yet it was the Nevertians who came to their aid in order to fight back the Volghon invasion force. This battle did not last very long as the Nevertians were able to utilise several artillery vehicles they had stolen from the Dead-Eye division and were able to sink the majority of the Volghon ships on their approach, the one that survived chose to surrender as they arrived on shore rather than go home and face execution for their cowardice.

This was a key battle for the Nevertians as it allowed them to win over the Shiraku Port and gain a lot of support from the Nationalists support base.

The Battle for Amn

This was the final battle of the civil war, on the 6th of December, the Nationalists were becoming weak due to the civilians siding with the Nevertians, so they decided to barricade themselves within the Governmental district inside Amn and they declared that the only way they were leaving is if they were in coffins, the Nevertians accepted this declaration and marched towards the district.

The proceeding battle was one of guerrilla warfare, Nevertian troops had to run from one building to another, using stealth as their weapon as they slowly cleansed each building with accuracy and speed, it was this very battle that started the Nevertian Strike Force division of the army.

The battle lasted two days, but by the end of it the Nevertians had managed to force the nationalists into one last stronghold, the headquarters of the Irashiru National Party. This was the be the coffin they claimed they would be leaving in. Instead of trying to besiege the building, the Nevertians covered all exits then launched a devastating fire attack on the building, the blazing inferno consumed the entire structure and left no one alive inside.

The Nevertians soon declared to the country over the radio and TV that the Civil War was over and that they were now setting up their own government to lead the nation into a new era of prosperity. The man they put in charge was Lord Alexander Fell Dian, the joint-commander of the Nevertian Strike Force and the new party leader of the Nevertians.

Current Political Status

Irashiru is currently being run by the Nevertian Political Party, seperate to the Nevertian Defence Force, who helped bring about the end of the Irashiru Civil War. They are a fascist, totalitarian government (Set up on the grounds that in order for Irashiru to flourish they need to remove elections for the time being to set up an effective government and concentrate on current country policies) which is currently succeding in fufilling all it's goals to the Irashiru Citizens, defence is at it's peak with the introduction of a large wall encircling the country, crime has been wiped out completely with harsh criminal treatment detering those who would seek to break the law. On a whole Irashiru has vowed that it will not branch out into the nearby countries in war, the armed forces are only meant for defence. Although, if it's child nation, The Democratic Republic of Eorpa, was to be attacked the Irashiru armed forces would be instructed to go to the defence of the Eorpa Prince.

Overall Irashiru is currently experiencing a stage of political bliss where the Nevertians are taking great care to improve the citizens way of life and to ensure that the country itself continues to grow.

Economy

Current Information

The current state of economy in Irashiru is one of continual growth, after a low period during the governmental strife the countries wealth is quickly growing. The currency of Irashiru is the Irasha which at the current rate of exhange has increase in the value of a single Irashiru. Businesses are slowly beginning to expand and with some industries recieving grants to help Irashiru develop even more it looks like a good period is ahead of Irashiru and it's citizens.

Future Aims

At the moment the Nevertian Party have decided that money should be invested into it's national border defences, nation defence forces and social welfare, targets has been set so that within one or two years these sections will be at a level needed by the growing country, then money will be invested into introducing new industries and increasing the nation's resource output to gain a better foothold in the export market.

The Irashiru Space Program

Recently in 2006, work began on a brand new space program in Irashiru to send the first Irashirian Shuttle into space, although it will take a while due to the new allocation of funding, the need to develop the shuttle, the building of launch gear, the construction of a space control building and of course, the training of astronauts. There is much hype about this subject and many citizens have began to save up so they can buy a ticket to watch the grand launch, whenever it comes along.

Although the majority of people living in Irashiru are Irashirians and Giashians, there is no racial sectioning within cities, all ethnic groups are allowed to live wherever they want and all forms of racism are considered crimes, although political correctness is not in action because it is left to the citizens to determine what they see as offensive and then ignore it.

Religions in Irashiru

Irashiru is mostly an Atheist nation, it allows the free worship of any religion by its people, although all religious buildings are subject to tax as well which makes it hard for new religions to start up. The majority of Irashirians, Giashians and Dasharians follow the similar belief that one must respect their ancestors and offer prayer to them each day for the world they now live in, there are giant shrines constructed near graveyards were people can have their family trees displayed as a sign of respect to those who have lived before them. There are several religions, however, that are banned. Satanism is deeply frowned upon because of the suicide connections and confrontations with the Christian population, some Naturist religions are banned due to the excessive nudity in public places whenever they meet and any religion that needs sacrifices to worship are also banned, and its members are either exiled or imprisoned.

National Holidays

There are several national holidays in Irashiru where the majority of the country are allowed to stop working for the day and relax, excluding key areas such as government and defence. The most famous holiday is Irashiru Day, which celebrates the founding of Irashiru with large parades and parties, then a television broadcast of the current party leader reading the history of Irashiru's founding.

Another famous holiday is the St. Giashu day, which refers to the man who allowed the Kaeshirians to join the Giashirians as they fled from their original homelands. This day is celebrated on a similar, yet less grand, basis as Irashiru day, and it accumlates with the burning of a wooden ship in Dagon's port where the Giashirian ships landed.

A notable holiday is Eorpa's Independence day, which although it is mostly celebrated in Eorpa, it is also considered a holiday in Irashiru as it represents the kindness of Irashiru and the good relation between Eorpa and Irashiru as a Father and Child nation, this day is also hailed as a family day because of this relation.

Military

The Irashiru Military Forces

The Irashiru Defence forces is split into six seperate sections.

Each of these sections has their own goals and targets for the nations security.

Irashiru Infantry

This is the core section of the Irashiru Army, comprised of seven seperate divisions. The Irashiru Infantry's goals and targets are that they must keep well trained and ready to deploy at any moment due to the growing concerns about the nearby Empire of Volghon, an increasingly threatening military nation constantly seeking to expand it's borders, and to maintain the defences on the borders of Irashiru to ensure that no armed force can attack without the country being notified.

Divisions

  • Irashiru 1st (This is the first division set up by Lord Irashiru Kael himself to fight in the Battle of the Red Hills, it is the oldest Irashiru division and is used as an example for anyone hoping to join the Irashiru Infantry. Although admission into this division is extremely hard because only those considered worthy by the General in charge of the division, General Aeiler King.)
  • Red Vipers (A moderately sized division that specialises in desert combat and handling sieges. All members are lightly armoured and are trained to move quickly and put pressure on their opponents by speed and mobility. All those who apply to this division must go through a desert survival course set up in the African Continent at the division's foreign base "Ji'kar Fortress".)
  • Blue Sabers (This is one of the largest divisions in the Irashiru Infantry, it handles multiple combat zones and focuses on strength and accuracy when facing their enemy. This division specialises in aerial deployment and often works closely with the Irashiru Air Force, there are three generals in control of this division: General Eishar Hiua who handles intelligence and deployment tactics, General Alexandra Knight who is in charge of troop status, medical checks and regulations and Tactical Commander Biran Jiesh who is in charge of strategies, equipment and improvement.)
  • The Nevertian Strike Force (This is a newly established division made in early 2005, it has been operational for several years unofficially, only just appearing to combat the Irashiru Nationalists, and has now gained official status. This is a very small force consisting of a mere six thousand troops, but they are highly trained and can cope in all weather types. They are extremely quick to deploy and well armed, using up to date armour and weaponry.)
  • The Irashiru Relief and Aid Force (This division is not often sent into combat but instead sent into areas where fighting has been fierce, the bulk is full of Doctors, Surgeons and Field Medics, with a small handful of soldiers to defend them and help with movement.)
  • The Mechanised Infantry (A small division comprised of engineers, mechanics and vehicle experts. They are not very well armed as they are often told to travel light. Commonly seen behind the scenes of war repairing damaged vehicles and ensure that gun emplacements are up and running efficiently.)
  • Dead Eye Division (Although it's name seems like a joke, it is a sincere statement about their profession. This unit handles two tasks, spotting enemies, and utilising artillery weapons. They usually employ the help of Spy Planes so a minority of the division has been trained to fly them, the others are trained at working with artillery vehicles and emplacements. There is a small number in this unit that are highly respected snipers, often deployed to deal with urban issues around Irashiru where they want precision over speed.)

Irashiru Armoured Force

This is a smaller section of the Irashiru Military forces, it handles tanks and troop transports. There is only one division at the moment and it is called the "Irashiru Behemoth Division". This section is used for quickly striking into the enemy with Irashiru's latest tank "Mk-I Titan" which is a lightweight tank with titainium alloy armor which allows excellent defence against tank shells, mortar rounds, some grades of rocket and most bullets.

Irashiru Air Force

This is a stable section of the Irashiru Military which as it seems needs no current change to it's technology or tactics. Most of it is dominated with helicopters, both transport and attack, with a small section of jet fighters which are not needed to combat other aerial threats due to the abundance of manned flak cannons and SAM-sites throughout Irashiru. The Air Force handles the transport of supplies for the other military sections and the deployment of the Infantry Division and the Armoured Division.

Irashiru Navy

A large section of Irashiru's borders lie on the Baltic Sea, but even so Irashiru does not have a very large navy as most of it's concerns lie upon ground battles. The Irashiru navy is mostly used to ensuring the trade routes through the Baltic Sea are safe and that no force can position itself close to Irashiru's ports.

Irashiru Expeditionary Force

This is a branch of the Infantry section that specialises in going into friendly countries to aid them, it is comprised of ten thousand soldiers, twenty Mk-I Titan tanks, fifteen attack helicopters and several hundred armoured troop transports.

Irashiru Defence Force

In most countries this branch of the military wouldn't exist, it would be called the police or the security forces. Irashiru does not operate in a system where the security forces are civilians hired to patrol the streets, it is a military trained fighting force that handles this task in order to limit crime and ensure that there is safety on the street.

Irashiru Intelligence Agency

This is a large section of the military which specialises in gathering intelligence about other countries, maintaining communication with friendly nations, monitoring information in Irashiru and keeping an eye on worldly matters.

The Democratic Republic of Eorpa

Irashiru's Relation to Eorpa

In 1856 a group of refugees came to Irashiru under the leadership of a man named "Aesthatar" who hailed from the growing Empire of Volghon. At first they were turned down but after a few days near Irashiru's border they picked up the interest of the current Irashiru leader, Lord Iashi Kakal, who sent transports to pick them up and accomodation for them in the capital because he wanted to have them close by so he could talk to them and discover why they were here. After many conversations with Aesthatar, Iashi Kakal was moved by their plight. Aesthatar had grown dissatified of the way his homeland was being run and he decided to leave, bringing followers of his dream for a truly democratic country.

At this time Irashiru was expanding south and was currently involved in a conflict with Volghon over a section of land know as the "Eor Plains". When Irashiru finally emerged as the victor a year later Iashi decided that he would place Aesthatar in control of the newly established province of Eorpa so that he could give his followers a place to live and set up the kind of homeland he had promised them, in accordance to the governing body of Irashiru.

Reasons for it's creation

Eorpa was created in 1985 due to the close relationship Iashi had with Aesthatar and the end of the conflict over the Eor Plains. Iashi respected Aesthatar deeply and was assured that it would be best to send him into the new province as it's leader instead of expanding the control of the current governing body.

The Retaliation of Volghon

In 1859 the Empire of Volghon grew extremely annoyed that the Eor plains had been stolen from them, and they were extremely offended when Irashiru decided to place an Volghan exile in control of the region. They waited for the tension between themselves and Irashiru to calm down before they launched a surprise offensive on the 24th of July, 1859. At first they swept through the region taking control of the small villages that had sprung up and encountered little resistance, by the time the Irashiru government had been alerted by the attack the Volghans were closing in on the Eorpa capital of Haen. They quickly scrambled to launch their forces into the region before it was too late, but as they did this a new message came from Haen, the defending forces in Eorpa had regrouped inside Haen and fending off the Volghon siege with all their strength. It took 2 days for the Irashiru Armed Forces to arrive at Haen, but when they arrived they were not met with a ruined city and sounds of war, they saw a skyline of slightly damaged buildings, some smoke clouds and a large Volghon attack force held at bay outside the city limits by a die hard defence force that was giving them no quarter.

The morale of the Irashiru armed forces doubled as they charged to the aid of the Eorpans and in the ensuing battle they managed to help rout the Volghon invaders and reclaim most of the land stolen by them, even a small portion of Volghon submitted themselves to Irashiru which expanded the borders of the province.

All the members of the Haen defence force were awarded with medals of bravery and Aesthatar, who led them, was granted the title of Tiger of the Eorpan province, but this title was not to last that long. The Irashiru Government were so impressed by the Eorpan's that they began to negotiate a new settlement of the Eor Plains, and by the end of it they had agreed that the best course of action after witnessing the defence of Haen and just how attached they had grown to the province, they declared that Eorpa must be recognised as a seperate country to Irashiru and allowed to govern itself, although it would still be considered a close ally of Irashiru.
