The Republic of Melchizede is a large, economically powerful nation, renowned for its complete absence of social welfare. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, intelligent population of 32 million are known throughout the region for their efficiency and work ethic, as well as their general suspicion of leisure.

The tiny, corrupt government juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Commerce. Income tax is unheard of. A healthy private sector is led by the Pizza Delivery industry, followed by Furniture Restoration and Beef-Based Agriculture.

Gambling is outlawed, all tariffs have been abolished, the death penalty has been reintroduced, and organ donation rates have hit a new low. Crime is a serious problem. Melchizede's national animal is the lion, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation, and its currency is the zede.
