The Republic of The Dark Side Prophets is a very large, safe nation, notable for its compulsory military service. Its hard-nosed, hard-working, cynical population of 79 million are ruled by a mostly-benevolent dictator,Reverend Jacen Valenthyne, who grants the populace the freedom to live their own lives but watches carefully for anyone to slip up.
It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Social Welfare, Education, and Defence. The average income tax rate is 50%. Private enterprise is illegal, but for those in the know there is a slick and highly efficient black market in Gambling.
The mining industry is making inroads into environmentally sensitive areas, a large-scale revitalization of the education system is underway, euthanasia is legal, and the public are free to vote for whomever the government wants in office. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. The Dark Side Prophets's national animal is the raven and its currency is the vodka.
