The first corporation in the world to gain the status of sovereign nation, the The Corporate State of the Terra Corporation is a commercial and industrial giant with business in dozens of different markets. This horizontal expansion has meant that the company touches almost everyone's lives in some way on a daily basis. This kind of market penetration has caused concern among the region's competing economies.

A major catalyst to the Terra Corporation's success was the war that toppled the PRC. With the major Asian financial capitals (especially Hong Kong) in the middle of war, neutral Terra Corp was relatively safe on the Malay Peninsula. This advantage was coupled with the absorption of parts of Malaysia and Brunei to produce a company with strong strengths in fossil fuel energy (an increasingly precious commodity), information technology, and financial services. The Terra Corporation catered to both sides during the war and was seen as a safe place to store funds (much like Switzerland during WW2). This has caused much post-war complaints but the Terra Corporation's sheer power (legal and monetary) has seen all complaints about wartime activities fade away harmlessly.

Because of the plenipotentiary status of the company's CEO and Board in all affairs within its territory, some civil rights organizations have complained about the lack of political and civil freedoms. However, most citizens seem to be happy to work as employees of their government/company and the Terra Corporation enjoys one of the highest per capita GDPs in the region.

Recently, the Terra Corporation has given its security branch (Terra Corp Security) increased power due to the threat of piracy in the Malacca and elsewhere (helped in part by the flood of post-war mercenaries and material). The research branch (Terra Corp Research) has established an information technology research center in Taiwan. The Board understands that as the FCR continues to grow in strength, Terra Corporation will not have the edge in the huge market due to the stigma of its wartime activities. Therefore, the Terra Corporation is working to improve ties with regional economic powerhouses and shifting its expansion plans elsewhere. The business outlook for the Terra Corporation looks bright as it establishes strategic partnerships with Taiwanese, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese companies in preparation for large-scale entry into the Indian and Western markets. Negotiations are underway to keep Fiat Lux Colleges researchers working for the Terra Corp (when not teaching) despite widespread protests in Fiat Lux Colleges against such cooperation.
