The United Kingdom, is a region in the NationStates cyberworld. It is a region which is based on British values and politics, although the political system has been experiencing radical change over the past few weeks. The region was founded approximately 10 months ago, although the exact date has been hard to verify; and has been fortunate to have been always growing, whereas many other regions in NationStates are currently undergoing a period of decline. Recently, for the first time since April 2007, on the 10th October 2007, the UN delegateship changed hands; and the position is now currently occupied by Sir Reg Empey. The position of Chief Executive, provisional leader of The United Kingdom, is also in Sir Reg Empey's hands. No established government system is being followed, since inactivity due to the recent exam period has meant that the current constitution cannot be followed; and The United Kingdom has had to have delayed its elections for quite a while, and therefore the government cabinet has been appointed based purely on Sir Reg Empey's decisions, as opposed to following a democratic route. Sir Reg Empey, though, plans to reinstall the democratic government system which has existed since the birth of the region, as soon as more nations become active again as the year progresses.

Birth

The region was founded in August/September 2006, by a nation called Conserative UK, who remains active to this day. For the first few weeks, as the region got on its feet, the founder established himself as King, with almost dictatorial powers. However, as more nations arrived a government system, based on the principles of parliamentary democracy, was established. The King took up the title of King George VII. He proclaimed himself Head of State, but with his powers drastically reduced from the standing he had during the founding of the region. As more nations arrived, poltical parties started to emerge. The most notable ones were the Unionist Party, and the New Conservative Party. The Unionist Party is the oldest political party in existence in The United Kingdom. It has held power more times than any other party, and its founder is, along with the King, the only one to have been here almost since the foundation of the region. Both the King and Sir Reg Empey, the nation which is leader of the Unionist Party, are affectionely known as the 'Old Guard'. The King and the original members of the region were quite ambitious about how the region would be run, and the forum included areas dealing with the fictional economy of The United Kingdom, and its member nations. However, like many 'offices' that were set up; as of the 2nd July 2007, many have been closed down due to inactivity. However, they plan to be resurrected as time goes on. The foundations of the regional army were also established, although the organisation would not see a real beginning until the publishing of The United Kingdom's Armed Forces Charter of 2007.

Politics

As said before, the origins of The United Kingdom's political system was based on the Westminiser system style of government. Parliamentary democracy was the natural choice, because the King wished to see that the region retained its British connection, a fact which would prove a great attention to any nations thinking of joining The United Kingdom.

The United Kingdom's Armed Forces

The United Kingdom's Armed Forces (UKAF) was established shortly after the establishment of The United Kingdom. However, successive Ministers of Defence failed into turning into something more than an army on a piece of paper.
