The northern boundary of the Thornichi Mountain Range is approximately 25 miles north of the Thorinian border at that point. Here, mountain range splits into two others, the Artean and Shanama. The southern border of the range is the Sea of Shoma, where it actually continues its land deformation under water, and thus the island of Hinotashi is actually a part of it. The mountain range runs approximately 420 miles across from east to west on average, about 1/6 of Thorin's horizontal landmass. The tallest mountain is Areck Peak, 12,028 feet above sea level.

The mountains of the Thornichi are amazingly fertile. Rather than being rocky, the soil is quite rich and thick, due to glacial deposits and low amounts of wind for a mountain. Soil is washed away by rain, but the positions and closeness of the mountains simply cause the soil to collect in large deposits between summits, providing large areas of fertile land. This allowed the Thornichi people, as well as the mountainous Lugonomek tribes to live and prosper in the mountains as well as they would have on flat land.

The mountains also contain large amounts of heavy materials, mainly metals like iron and copper. This ready supply of metal is part of what allowed the Thornichi to defeat the Lugonomeks for their land.

History

The Thornichi Mountain Range was the home of the Thornichi for hundreds of years, until conflict between the Heekazi and ZircoRomborgians caused them to go their separate ways and spread into the rest of Thorin.

Now, the mountain range is the dividing line between the sub-regions of Haekaz and Zirconia. Countries mainly to the west or in the mountains are usually aligned with Haekaz. Countries to the east are usually considered Zirconian.

For more information on the history, see Thornichi.
