In Kelssek, the keeping of standard time is divided into four time zones, Kelssek Coastal Time (UTC+8), Central Kelssek Time (UTC+7), and Western Kelssek Time (UTC+6) and Kewatin Territory Standard Time (UTC+8:30). Time zones are established by provincial legislation.

Daylight Savings Time

Daylight Savings Time (also known as Summer Time) is observed throughout Kelssek, except in the Kewatin Territory, which remains in the UTC+8:30 time zone all year. The difference dates back to the territory's independence from Kelssek; and while the territorial governments have made some attempts to align the time zone with the rest of Kelssek, it has tended to generate strong local opposition.

Kelssek observes Summer Time from the first Sunday in May until the first Sunday in September. Clocks are set forward by one hour during this period. The words "standard" and "summer" are added to the names of time zones to show if DST is applied or not; hence Kelssek Coastal Standard Time is always UTC+8, while Kelssek Coastal Summer Time is always UTC+9.

Accuracy and standards

The National Astronomical Laboratory in Neorvins is responsible for time measurement in Kelssek, and maintains its own atomic clock as part of this purpose. Time zones in Kelssek are thus actually offsets from Kelssek Coastal Standard Time, although by convention and for easy international comprehension the UTC offset is still the official and most-used way of expressing the time zones.
