Design

Most of the traditional Wyrm weapons are designed to be wielded from a fixed position, as it is difficult for Wyrms to move while standing on two legs. As such, traditional Wyrm weapons are designed to be powerful, capable of killing an enemy before it can attack the immobile Wyrm.

Popularity

Several of the ancient Wyrm weapons have survived to modern times, and some are actually quite popular. In particular, the riveblade is prized by Special Forces operatives as being perhaps the sharpest thing ever made by Wyrms; the sawbow is popular as a personal weapon because of its reputation as a "skill" weapon and its destructive power against unarmored targets.

Melee weapons

Because Wyrms are usually unable to move while using a melee weapon, such weapons are usually used only in enclosed spaces, ambush, or ceremonial situations.

Longsword

The Wyrm longsword comes in two versions. The double-edged type, similar to the European longsword, and the single-edged type, similar to the Japanese nodachi. Longswords are usually designed to be held in two hands, although shorter versions have been made which can be weielded in a single hand.

The longsword is usually too heavy and unwieldy to be handled effectively by humans.

Broadsword

The Wyrm broadsword is a double-bladed, two-handed sword, shorter and wider than the longsword. Its primary purpose is for chopping at shorter range than the longsword. Properly wielded, it can remove limbs with a single blow.

The broadsword is too heavy and unwieldy to be handled effectively by humans.

Riveblade

The riveblade is the most deadly of Wyrm bladed weapons. They can be made in almost any shape, although they are usually made to resemble thinner, lighter versions of the Wyrm longsword. After forging, the riveblade is magically sharpened to a practically monomolecular edge, then magically reinforced to help keep the edge. Due to the extreme ease with which it cuts most unenhanced substances, the riveblade is almost as dangerous to its wielder as to its target, and is generally used only by master swordsmen.

Projectile weapons

Traditional projectile weapons usually are not powered by gunpowder, instead relying on energy stored in leaf or coil springs. The few traditional gunpowder weapons are usually larger-caliber versions of human weapons.

Sawbow

The Wyrm sawbow is a device, usually about three feet in length, that fires metal discs, sometimes machined into a shuriken shape, through the action of bent leaf springs. The discs are extremely lethal, especially at close range, and can cut through some types of light infantry armor. A sawbow usually holds six discs, which can be fired at the rate of one every two seconds. The sawbow has a reputation for requiring a good amount of skill to use correctly, as the spin on the projectile causes it to curve significantly at anything other than close range.

The amount of "pull" needed to bend the sawbow's springs and cock the weapon usually makes the weapon unusable to humans.
