The Two Day War arose from the Kechan blockade of Iranthir, the homeworld of New Xanthal, a relatively new nation built by a group that had organized a mass exodus from Xanthal in 2422 seeking new opportunity in a pure capitalist society. By 2488, conditions in New Xanthal had degraded to the point where the working class lived as slaves under the rule of the planet's leaders. In protest of this social order, the Empire of Kecha sent its fleet to blockade the planet, starving it of vital trade the residents of the industrial planet needed to feed themselves.

The Socialist Republic of Xanthal, seeing the devastation caused by the blockade, especially among the lower class, opted to send a supply fleet escorted by a large battlegroup to break the blockade. When the ships approached the planet, Kechan forces opened fire on the blockade runners; but their fleet, dated and geared for exploration more than battle, was routed easily by Xanthalian forces. After their retreat, the Xanthalian military chased down Kechan military starships and bases in their own territory, continuing for more than a day before the President of Xanthal called an end to the offensive.

The aftermath of the Two Day War left the Kechan navy decimated and the International Defense Initiative, which Kecha and Xanthal had helped to create centuries earlier, shattered. The long-time friends terminated all diplomatic contact after the IDI collapsed, and all hope for reconciliation was lost when the People's Republic of Xanthal collapsed in 2600, followed closely by the Empire of Kecha in 2649.
