UN DEFCON: "We care more about your nation's security than you do."

UN DEFCON (United Nations Defense Convention) is a UN organisation devoted to promoting international security measures and greater awareness of issues related to international security. Members meet in a secret underground bunker in a secure, undisclosed location to work on international security projects, including the drafting of UN proposals in that area. They've also been known to meet in Cluichstan's freakin' Death Star.

A Brief History of DEFCON

United Nations Defense Convention
Headquarters: Cluichstan's freakin' Death Star
Members: 30
Type: UN Organization
Forum: UN DEFCON

When the UN unceremoniously dumped Cluichstan's Anti-Terrorism Act, several active UN members of the United Nations started mulling establishing yet another special-interest group to push for agreeable legislation in the international body, this one discussing defense, international security and related topics. Thus on February 8, 2006, UN DEFCON was born, with Cluichstan at the helm, and the rest of the Unholy Trinity -- namely DEFCON co-founders The Palentine, Gruenberg and Omigodtheykilledkenny -- given the extra-special duties of EXTERMINATE!! ANNIHILATE!! DESTROY!! Other prominent early members included Flibbleites, Texan Hotrodders and The Most Glorious Hack, the former two being accomplished authors of International Security legislation, and the latter two being observers from the UN Secretariat.

And so it happened that the members of DEFCON were sitting around wondering what to do when a lightbulb went off over the Kennyite representative's head. "I know! Let's invade Chechnya!" he said. And invade they did. Once the dust settled, and most of Chechnya's military-aged male population hauled off to Tiki Taki for detention, questioning and torture (er, we mean just detention and questioning, of course), some thought that maybe an organization focused on UN legislation might actually try legislating on something. Gruenberg's repeal of Banning the Use of Landmines didn't do so well, but the accompanying UN Demining Survey passed with flying colors, marking DEFCON's first legislative victory. Later, in the summer of 2006, the General Assembly adopted DEFCON's key proposal and the successor to ATA, UN Counterterrorism Initiative, spurring wild victory celebrations and the Federal Republic's return to the United Nations.

In December of that year, DEFCON took up a moderator request to submit a proposal codifying the long-standing ban on UN police/military forces into international law. Without bothering to check the nation's suspect track record on UN proposals, the membership agreed to run with OMGTKK's draft, which failed. The start of 2007 brought about some success, however, with DEFCON's next project, a repeal/replace combo for the two-year-old UN Biological Weapons Ban that many considered flawed. Kivisto's UN Bio Agent Convention passed in March after Karmicaria's successful repeal of the previous resolution earlier that month.

DEFCON's membership voted to open a conflict-resolution department in May 2007.
