History of Auswynia

The early history of Auswynia dwells deep in prehistoric myth. Early Auswynians were tribal, nomadic people who would make occasional informal alliances amongst themselves. In response to increasing threats from invaders, a group of 17 families, whose names have been long forgotten, founded the Auswynian Democratic Republic, which they named after the goddess of their religion.

The Auswynian Democratic Republic was for many years a small and peaceful nation until the Great Plague of 1722 killed off most of its inhabitants. The newly-emptied nation quickly became a haven for socialist-minded refugees from nearby fascist states, who brought their own language and customs, but kept the names and political structure of the country intact.

In October of 2003, Auswynia relocated from the now defunct Llama Region to the Axis of Absurdity. The government's strong anti-business policies eventually drove the economy into the ground and the resulting stock market crash, homelessness and unemployment sparked a civil war that lasted the duration of February 2004.

As a result of the Auswynian Civil War, the Auswynian Democratic Republic was divided into two new nations: Neoauswynia and Former Auswynia. Neoauswynia, the smaller of the two nations, moved to 10000 Islands under the leadership of a psychotic fascist general. Former Auswynia remained in the Axis of Absurdity and became a moderate liberal democracy. Eventually the two nations reconciled their differences and reunited with much ceremony on June 1st, 2005. To commemorate the reunification, the country changed its name once again, this time to The Jingoistic States of United Auswynia.

People

Auswynians pride themselves in being some of the best educated in the region. They are indoctrinated at an early age with a feirce love for their country. In day to day life they speak a combination of Mock Norwegian and English. Favourite pasttimes include rowing, curling and word association football. Auswynians are united with a common love of Norwegian and indie music.

Economy

Auswynia's economy is turbulent at best. Its main industries are cheesemaking, gambling and ecotourism. Its currency, the Educated Bum, is nearly worthless.

Government

At the moment, the government is run by the self appointed prime minister, Oyvind Larsen, and the people he chooses to appoint for various tasks. The public have very little say in political matters, as elections and political freedoms have been outlawed.

Military

Auswynia's army is noteable for its guerrilla tactics. Military bases and training grounds are constantly moved from location to location, so as not to be discovered. Army leaders use pseudonyms so as not to be identified. When they are not needed, they are almost impossible to find. They are armed with various baked goods, as is standard practice across the entire Axis of Absurdity.

The First People's Guerrilla Militia Regiment mainly provides security in and around the capital city of Ardria. Its duty is to ensure the safety of government leaders.

The Second People's Guerrilla Militia Regiment is currently stationed around Auswynia's border. It regulates the flow of illegal and controlled substances in and out of the country and acts in association with regional police forces to keep the peace. The fourth and seventh divisions of the Second Regiment are currently on loan to the Axis of Absurdity to protect against spammers and naked mimes on pogo sticks.

No one has ever seen the Third People's Elite Guerrilla Militia Regiment in action, it is that good. No one knows exactly how many soldiers it contains, where it is located, who leads it, what weapons it uses or what exactly it does. Rest assured though, a large part of Auswynia's defence budget goes toward this regiment so it can keep up its excellent work.
