Upper Cann is a district in the eastern portion of the province of Plateau. Here the Errinundera Plateau has given way to ridges and gullies that feed into the Cann River.

There is no Upper Cann governing authority as such. Government business is conducted almost entirely at the local level, ie the tree villages and tree towns. First Creek Falls is the administrative centre of the province, however there is little interference from that city. The Canners mind their own business and they expect no less from outsiders. Mayors and Magistrates of two or more locations meet from time to time to decide upon larger issues that need addressing.

Farming is the major industry of the district, with the produce being sent to the voracious First Creek Falls market. About 25% of the forest has been cleared from this district resulting in some degradation of the land, principally through soil erosion.

Because the rainfall is lower than the higher elevation plateau the forests here are of a more open type with a shubby understorey. Along the river a denser, riparian ecosystm flourishes.
