The Autocratic Federated Empire of Akimonad is a large, safe nation located on a series of three large, associated islands. The country was organized as a colony shortly after its discovery in 1876. Ruled by a benevolent dictator, Dr. Jules Hodz, the country has been made economically, politically and militarily stronger, normally at the expense of taxpayers and their civil rights. Political freedoms are few in Akimonad; the only democracy is that of the Parliament, which has little effect on national matters.

History

Early History

Akimonad was a chain of islands inhabited by indigenous people for hundreds of years. The people lived in tranquility and peace, with little interaction. While the world developed around them, they remained shielded and undiscovered. Monad, the only island to have organized government before colonization, was ruled by monarchs who, as a rule, had names with many diacritic marks and were hard to pronounce. In 1812, the then-King of Monad died, leaving the throne to his cat, and causing pandemonium for several years until the cat was assasinated and the next heir took the throne.

Discovery, Colonization

The three islands that compose Akimonad were discovered in 1876 by explorers from neighboring countries. The islands originally colonized by settlers from nearby Aquas in 1902 - Aki, Monad and Schvin - were organized as the Septum Antilles Republic of Aki-monad.

Revolution and Independence

Many colonists, discontented with Aquas royal rule, organized natives and other colonists into a ragtag army and navy, which fought colonial rule. They declared independence on January 3, 1958. The revolution began shortly after in a city battle in Bordeaux. The revolution was won in 1961 with the colossal defeat of royal forces at the Battle of Mont-du-Plame, where royalist forces had launched a major counterattack but were utterly slaughtered while trying to climb up the rocky surface of the mountain. Independence was recognized on June 29, 1961 and a republic free from Aquas control was organized.

The July Coup

In July of 2003, a group calling themselves the "Akimonadite Citizens for Improvement, Justice, Reform, (etc.) of the Republic" corrupted the 2003 Presidential elections to put Commodore Daniel Heusen, supreme leader of Akimonad Military, into office. After the fraud was uncovered, the Akimonadite military, commanded by Heusen, seized the Parliament House in the now-former capitol of Bordeaux and forced a so-called "autocracy," which was revealed on state television. Heusen came to power in August, assuming control of every aspect of daily life in Akimonad, and quelling everyone who was stupid enough to dissent. The country has been in control of Heusen ever since, although, in the words of state television, "steps are being taken to create democracy."

Current Status

King Ædáçí X, the last in the line of Monadite monarchs, died in 2005 of "grief caused by instability and the injustice of Commodore Heusen." Parliament was dissolved in 2006, but was brought back in 2007 in order to have some elections. Heusen selected his second-in-command, Dr. Jules Hodz, who helps him rule the country.

The citizens of Akimonad are relatively unoppressed, and the dictatorship government, loosening strict control, allows for freedom of expression. The government seems to be working for the good of everyone in and outside of the nation, including its immediate neighbors.

Daniel Heusen abdicated in September 2007 and designated Dr. Jules Hodz as his successor.

Economy

The economy of Akimonad is a strong free-market economy. Akimonad routinely imports many raw materials that it does not have the land to grow, however, with Akimonad's boom of imperialism in early 2007, imports have dropped as there is now more than enough room to grow food in colonies. Akimonad gains much revenue from exporting sugar, fruit, diamonds and other subtropical goodies. There is also a bustling industry for shipbuilding and aeronautics, as well as space industry, given the islands' convenient location to launch anything into space.

Government

The government of Akimonad is a semi-autonomous dictatorship set up by Commodore Daniel Heusen. There is a legislative body, known as the Parliament of Akimonad, however the Parliament has little effect and is often bogged down with debates and popularity contests between MPs.

The Government is located in the Akimonad Government Plaza.

Most of the government's communication is done directly by Dr. Jules Hodz. If he is unavailable it is done by Press Secretary Andre Huffman. Any communication to the UN is generally done by UN Ambassador Dr. Jules Hodz.

Geography

Map

The layout of Akimonad.

The geography of Akimonad includes some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. The three islands of Akimonad come together and form two straits, one between Aki and Schvin and one between Aki and Monad. The manmade island Base One, used for military purposes, is one of the largest manmade islands in the world and contains most of the fleet of Akimonad Navy as well as Akimonad Air Forces. The capitol and largest city Kent has very many ornate buildings, with architecture from each period. Schvin, a paradise for flora lovers, is home to Schvin Forest, the last surviving large-scale forest in Akimonad. It is part of Schvin National Park, a preserve and tourist attraction that occupies 75% of the island of Schvin. The park has a contrat of scenery ranging from warm beach to cool mountaintop, as it is home to the Hands of Schvin, the only mountain range in Akimonad. Facing the open ocean, Schvin is home to over 25 scenic beaches, and more that 200 luxury resorts, as well as private estates and homes of famous celebrities. Monad is dotted with over 150 beaches, as well as 5 mega ship ports. Monad serves as the "entrance and exit" of Akimonad, servicing over 2 million ships a day. Monad is also home to Akimonad's only active volcano, though it has not erupted since 1972. Monad is also the location of Akimonad's largest spaceport.
