Who Am I?

My name is Queen Lily, First Triarch of Pallatium. I was elected to this post six years ago after my very good friend Queen Tina passed away in her sleep.

Why this site?

I think that communication is the best way to solve problems. While blowing things up can also work, I honestly believe that words will be the eventual cause of peace between all nations.

And part of communication is understanding - that if I can better understand the people I am talking to, then I can communicate with them better, and hopefully sort out problems before they grow out of control.

What do you do in your spare time?

Since Pallatium joined the UN I have a lot less spare time, as part of my role as First Triarch is to attend UN meetings and discuss and debate new laws and resolutions.

But when I am not doing that, my interests go mainly to the sport side of things. I am a average fencer (so my coach tells me), but am ranked as one of the top people in the country with the boomerang. My other passion is writing - I have a lot of published stories (although they are all published under fake names, because they are not the sort of stories you would approve of your queen writing) and plan to write more if/when I leave office.

What do you believe?

That talking can overcome most things, that violence should be the last resort of civilized nations, and violence wrapped in secrecy is the weapon of thugs, that we should protect the least amongst us, and that while we owe devotion to our Divine Goddesses, we should live our own lives.

I also believe that while National Sovereignty is important, it is not sacrosanct. I am not one to reject a proposal out of hand because it violates my national sovereignty - sometimes to make the world a better place, nations have to compromise on what they believe. However I am not willing to just turn my nation over to the UN either - there are some parts of my government I am going to fight to retain, and will oppose any proposals that would try to take them.

Who Am I?

I am the person behind the throne (so to speak). I first started playing Nation States around a year ago (almost exactly), with another nation, and really enjoyed it.

What was this nation?

The nation was TilEnca, which is surprisingly not all that different from the country of Pallatium. Mostly arable land, with some technology in various parts. The biggest difference is the way religion is handled in the two countries. It was also the author of "The EON Convention On Genocide", something of which I am very proud.

So why did you leave?

I left because of various things, though they are all on the same lines. I was beginning to dislike what was going on in the game, and since it was a passtime (and not a job) and was supposed to be fun, I figured I could find something better to do.

Why did you come back?

It depends on your perspective. One reason could be that I saw the resolutions passed and repealed in the time I was gone, and realised you needed my guidance.

The other reason is that I found I missed the debating. As much as I hate to admit this, and as much as people will possibly curse my name, I never was that attached to the nation of TilEnca. It was just a means to an end. I love the UN forum, and the chance to have proper debates (most of the time) with people who have a wide range of views.

Are you going to go off on a ramble here?

Possibly. But the best part of the internet is, in my view, the fact you can talk to anyone from anywhere. People you would not normally meet in day to day life. And you get exposed to view points you would not normally be exposed to - either because you don't know people who hold the views, or poeple who hold those views actively dislike you and won't talk to you. And it is all anonymous. You might have guessed Sammy Wrae is not my real name, because I have reservations about posting personal information online, but it is the name I tend to go by.

How alike are Queen Lily and You?

We are both staunch liberals. We both believe in free speech, free press, freedom of expression. We both worry that some issues (pedophillia and terrorism are just two example) can be used to scare people in to agreeing to things they would not normally agree to.

We also both love reading, and writing, however I am not a sporty person at all. The most sport I get involved in is the odd game of monopoly and scrabble.

I would say the two biggest differences between as are 1) Queen Lily believes and promotes creationism (for want of a better phrase), because it is scientific fact in Pallatium, where as I don't, because it isn't, and 2) She is female and I am not.

Mostly we are the same - almost all of her views are my views. But every so often (and I won't go in to detail, simply because it would spoil the fun of roleplaying) she defends a position I would normally find unacceptable, because sometimes playing Devil's Advocate is fun!
