Hi. I'm Daniel, I'm 23 years old and a 4th Year History Major at York University in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

As you can tell, my favourite historical people are the Romans, and thus serve as the inspiration for my nation here on NationStates. I intend for it to serve as the RL Roman Empire continued to this day, which is a dauting task by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, the Roman History Professor at York told me that the task is almost impossible- considering that if Rome survived, it would have lived through another several hundred years or so, thus the evolution of Rome could go in many, impossible to predict, directions.

What is almost certain is that a Rome today would probably not be exactly like the Rome of Augustus, for a couple of reasons. One, for any society to survive it has to evolve and adapt- or else it goes extinct. Two, throughout its RL existence, the Romans were not fearful of changing the structure of the Empire- it went from a Kingdom (753-510 BC) to a Republic (510 BC-60 BC), a Dictatorship (60 BC-27 BC) to an Empire (27 BC- AD 480). The Empire itself was shuffled four times- it was set up by Augustus (27 BC), then altered by Diocletian (AD 285, with the Empire reoraganized into four sections headed by an Emperor), Constantine (306, reuniting rule under a single state and allying himself with the Christians instead of persecuting them like Diocletian did) and at the death of Theodosius I (395, when the Empire was split in half for the last time). So, given the 1500 plus years since the traditional date of the fall of the Western Roman Empire (476, but the last Emperor, Julius Nepos, was killed in exile in 480 and recognized as Western Emperor until his death), it'd be conceivable for Rome to change again, and several times. Plus, as I've done in RomeW, it was a progressive nation (at least in spirit), so it's safe to say that a Rome today would also be progressive.

I understand it is almost impossible to pinpoint what evolution it would have taken, but bear in mind this is simply my version- I don't want to say that this is "definitively" what would have happened.
