I reversed your redirect on Falastur. NSwiki policy is that Nation pages are in Nation name, not nation+pretitle name. We do this because of link automation on the Infoboxes, among other things. We'll leave your old title up as a redirect page, but you should make any links directly to Falastur. Frisbeeteria Θtalk 22:43, 24 Oct 2004 (GMT)

(Falastur: "You got the code wrong on the redirect though") - please tell me how I got the code wrong on this. I used the built-in Move tool, which automatically creates a redirect on the old pagename. All redirects appear to be working just fine, so I don't understand this comment. Frisbeeteria Θtalk 14:48, 25 Oct 2004 (GMT)

Not to beat a dead horse or anything - Wikipedia doesn't require a colon for redirects, and neither does NSwiki. I'm not sure why the redirect failed for you the first time, but it wasn't because it was coded wrong. Frisbeeteria Θtalk (horse beaten and returned to stables)

Rather than adding a new page for each element of your nation, why don't you put them on your nation page? A lot of small documents don't do anything but add to the load on the wiki. Also, you'll want to consider adding a factbook. Instructions are here. Frisbeeteria Θtalk 01:16, 25 Oct 2004 (GMT)

Just like to note here (seeing your comments on Frisbeeteria's talk page) that I don't have anything against separate pages for items if they are more than stubs. I like how you have your king pages set up, but it would be nice if there was a little more content then one sentence. :) --Goobergunch|? 01:58, 25 Oct 2004 (GMT)
There will be. But I was writing that one article at 3 in the morning, so understandably they were sparse and I intend to fill them up with more content later..... -- Falastur 07:51, 25 Oct 2004 (GMT)

Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery

Howdy! I really like what you've done with your monarchs and am interested in doing something similar for Iansisle. I guess I am just writing to see if you'd mind me being a terrible copycat. If not, I'll think of another way to set it up. Thanks again! -- Iansisle 21:20, 30 Oct 2004 (GMT)

"...One last thing...mind if I ask how you came across my article? Just out of curiousity....."
I was just wandering the wiki one day and stumbled across it; the first thing to cross my mind was 'that's a darned good idea!' Since I've developed a fair amount of history for Iansisle, I figured a monarch list (Iansisle's history as an organized, independent state stretches back to 1091) might be a good idea. Thanks again, and best of luck with your own projects! I'll be keeping an eye on them. -- Iansisle 21:37, 30 Oct 2004 (GMT)

The flag image on your nation page, does not appear (image host problems it seems) ℜechze|talk 04:00, 6 Dec 2004 (GMT)

factbook subcategories

Re: Category:Falasturian Monarchs - we don't have anything in official policy about this, because frankly I don't think anyone saw the possibility of it ... but do you really need subcategories off of your factbook? Goobergunch and I have been trying to keep category growth under control. We're already past 200 categories. A single national factbook should be able to capture all that is relevant about a nation, and in this specific instance you already have rather obvious names as well as a reference page, List of Falasturian monarchs. Must we have a new category too?

Remember, NSwiki is an encyclopedia of NationStates activity. I don't believe Goober ever intended it to be a place to post the complete backstory of everything that happened pre-NS. Your histories are well-written, solid, and very nice ... but what do they have to do with the NS nation of Falastur or its roleplaying or gameplaying history? Give that a bit of thought if you would, and respond here with comments.

Thanks. → Fris Θtalk 17:15, 21 Dec 2004 (GMT)

(copying reponse back here for conversational consistency)

I'm sorry for creating any hassle for you. With the number of articles I was thinking of writing (not many, but still a sizable amount) it seemed a good idea to be able to take my Monarch pages out of the category for Falastur to keep it better organised and easier to negotiate. I very much base the workings of my pages off what I have seen on the main Wiki site. I'm sorry for any inconvenience this causes you. You may delete it now if you so intend.

And you are right. Most of my pages have little to do with what I RP on the forums. But then, I have written a comparatively small amount compared to what others have written, and yet I have not before seen a sysop asking any of them whether the information they have written is relevant. Furthermore, examining the page NSwiki, Goobergunchia said that this site "...strives to serve the NationStates community by providing useful content and a historical record that will serve all NationStatesers..." It also says that "...NSwiki is an open content encyclopedia of all things related to NationStates..." Now maybe I interpreted wrongly. Maybe I misunderstood, maybe that was mere wording, and actually we are only supposed to put up general information that is directly useful to us and linked to our RPs, but when I came to this site and read that page among others, I got the idea that this was for free exchange of background information - a site where I could develop the history and inner workings of my country, and let others read about it at the same time. I have no objection to your deciding that some of my writings are irrelevant - it is perfectly within your right - but I would have prefered it if I knew it was irrelevant so I could have restrained myself before writing it.

I apologise if this came over as ranting, whining, or generally speaking in an impolite manner. I hope I didn't, I certainly didn't intend to, but over textual conversations it is not easy to show which expressions you are using. All I can say is that you asked me to think about your statement and respond with comments, and that is what I have done. Falastur 13:57, 22 Dec 2004 (GMT)

It's not so much a matter of inconvenience as it is a matter of precedent. We had one user who wanted to turn the wiki into a global weaponry catalog, another who was writing up results of some computer wargame as 'real' NS events, and a few others who unabashedly said, "I'm using this as my personal homepage - deal with it." We did deal with it, and those users are gone now. Some of the precedents they attempted to set have been debunked in NSwiki:What NSwiki is not.

Your stuff is clearly nation-related, of obvious historical nature, and appropriate for the wiki. There are perhaps a dozen other users who have the same level of detail, and we have no problem with the articles. It's just the idea that once we start allowing factbook subcategories, we will likely be overrun with them. I don't want each nation with multiple species to create a "Category:Species of 1 Infinite Loop", or a region to have "Category:Languages of Aperin", when a simple page would do as well.

Wikipedia is horribly overcategorized, but their subject matter is far more complex. We can manage NSwiki with a few dozen master categories, plus the factbooks. (I'd actually like to see each player rather than each nation have a factbook, as I've yet to see a puppet factbook that didn't look like wank to me.) Anyway, if you don't mind, I'd prefer it if you emptied Category:Falasturian Monarchs and let your monarchs accumulate in your primary factbook instead. Until Goobergunch says we're running out of space, you can write all the backstory you want for Falastur. → Fris Θtalk 14:24, 22 Dec 2004 (GMT)

Backstory articles are fine, as long as they stay within the realm of NS reference material. In my earlier post, I just asked what they had to do with NS. You answered that it was backstory. That's fine then. → Fris Θtalk 14:45, 22 Dec 2004 (GMT)

Character Boxes

Your monarch box on Matthew_VI_of_Falastur had it's captions/fields mismatched towards the end - on matching them, I realised that you have 5 pairs and the box only holds four. I appreciate this is annoying (I tried to fit 8 into a box...) but you might want to go back and consider which fields you could concatenate. IdioC- ðtalk 21:06, 28 Dec 2004 (GMT)

Heh, not a problem. If all else fails, maybe you could just add a wiki table to the bottom of the box... IdioC- エドの狂いtalk 14:50, 3 Jan 2005 (GMT)

Messages for users

Please put messages for users on their talk page, not on their user page. That's the only way they're going to get the "You have new messages" banner anyway. Thanks! --Goobergunch|? 20:31, 12 Mar 2005 (GMT)
