NS Crash - "Server Zeroing"

Hey Goober, NS Crashed today so that the pages couldn't access the data. This has happened before, and the forum became filled with people making threads crying "HackerOMFG!1!11!!" and "OMG!DEAT!2!!11!1!1" repeatedly. Newbies kept posting "I've got this problem too" without reading the thread to see that it actually affected everyone who logged in.

To combat this, I created a page on the wiki to inform people of the problem, and so it could be referred to should it happen again. The problem is, I'm sure there's a technical category it should belong in - I can't find one suitable. Which category should it fit into? IdioC- エドtalk 14:40, 26 August 2005 (GMT)

Can I also request vandalism protection due to the sensitive nature of the subject with some of the unfamiliars? It has ALREADY been vandalised by 86.131.205.54, reversing all the negatives and spreading the panic I was meaning for it to restrain! IdioC- エドtalk 23:01, 26 August 2005 (GMT)

Heh. Thanks for the appreciation, but it was a case of time to kill. I'm heading off for my Uni in October, so I catch your drift somewhat. Thanks for the categorising - I'll work on a description for it now. Good luck settling in, and hope that freshers goes with a bang... IdioC- エドtalk 13:28, 4 September 2005 (GMT)

Not sure who i should contact or what it means exactly, thanks!

Hello!

Thanks for the message on my Wiki page. Hope you've enjoyed my updates. I have tried to keep Wiki 'fresh' every day with new tidbits. Did you like how I did my Royal Family? (It was a fun use of EA's The Sims 2.) Listeneisse 03:17, 3 October 2005 (GMT)

Vandalization of The Anumist Revolution's NSwiki page

Just as the subject says, the NSwiki page for the region of The Anumist Revolution was vandalized, and in a very rude manner at that. It appears that the person who vandalized The Anumist Revolution's NSwiki page is the owner of ex-nations of Lawton Prk/Lawton Park (both of them are now DEAT, and the player is IP banned from NationStates for griefing and other offenses).

- Sadildir, Dictator of the Dark Celene

82.41.113.105(owner of ex-nations of Lawton Prk/Lawton Park) continues with vandalism

As the subject says, the user who opperates from IP 82.41.113.105 continues with his vandalism, now he attempted to vandalize my main nation's (Dark Celene) NSwiki page. I will restore the page from history (especially since I was planning to update it anyway), but I humbly ask you to do something about Lawton Prk/Lawton Park (I don't find it likely that he will contribute anything worthy to NSwiki, especially after his IP ban on NationStates).

- Sadildir, Dictator of the Dark Celene

Thank you for warning him, Goobergunch. Hopefully, he'll know better then continue with his vanadlism now.

19:07, 18 October 2005, Frisbeeteria blocked 203.162.0.0/16 (expires indefinite) (contribs) (unblock) (range block on Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications (VNPT), persistent drugspammers on multiple wikis)

Range blocks - you wanna check me on this? 65536 addresses probably needs a second opinion.

Please review this bit of self-moderation if you would, sir. Should be obvious why. → Fris Θtalk 00:58, 28 October 2005 (GMT)

Rechze's access

You ARE here! I was beginning to wonder :P

Otherwise, yes, Gruen and I were just talking about it last night and felt it was confusing to the members to have an admin on the list that wasn't around to answer the questions of the users. Sooo, I removed his name from the list. But, yeah, if you still haven't removed his access, it might be a good idea to leave his name up for the time being. --Pacitalkia 16:36, 16 November 2005 (GMT)

Linkspamming on Talk:Main_Page

I put the page on protection status for the time being so that we can figure out a way to continue discussion about the Main Page without allowing linkspammers to vandalise it constantly. It's just creating unnecessary work for us to have to look back and rollback linkspammer edits. --Pacitalkia 05:50, 21 November 2005 (GMT)

Admin assistance required to move a page

Goobergunch --

Firstly, thanks for inventing and hosting the NSWiki. You have given me many hours of enjoyment and as a technyet and professional volunteer (oxymoron indended), I understand how much of a technological and interpersonal relations headache it must be. Please, take a bow.

Secondly, I'm trying to fix a violation of wiki naming conventions which I "quickfixed" (i.e., jerry rigged to solve the immediate problem with no consideration to future implications) some months ago. It has now become an irritant for me and several active NSWikipedians, e.g., Ceorana, which I would like to correct by MOVEing a page. However, because I already occupy that space with a #REDIRECT, it require's the administrator's assistance.

Could you please use your wizard level status to move Sober Thought game to Sober Thought? The later is now a #REDIRECT to the former, and once you've made the switch I'll manually do the same with the redirect.

Mercy buckets as they say in manglais.

Given Goober has been busy of late, I've done this for you. I hope that's not stepping on any toes. Gruen2alk 02:20, 28 November 2005 (GMT)
Yes, you're right: I should have done that. Thanks. Gruen2alk 00:19, 30 November 2005 (GMT)

Use of Images of Actors for Characters

I wasn't sure how the "fair use" clause would work for images of actors that we'd like to use for our RP characters. In particular I found an image online (tv_acres) of now deceased British actor John Thaw (aka Inspector Morse) h t t p ://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c111/mcalamari/NationStates/morse_inspector.jpg (note I broke the URL) that I uploaded on my photobucket, and I'd like to link the image to one of my UN Ambassadors. What is the general thoughts. Thanks! Mikitivity 23:18, 9 December 2005 (GMT)

Problem w/ Upgrade?

When you view differences from the Recent Changes page, on the links that say "previous change" and "later change", the arrows are shown as & larr; and & rarr; (w/o the space between), not ← and → like they're supposed to. Is this just a problem on my end, or could it have been a problem w/ the recent MediaWiki upgrade? It hasn't happened before. → Ceo \ squawk 05:20, 26 December 2005 (GMT)
