New Preview Template

I made a new one. It looks like:

Please use the preview button

Gruenberg2/Archives/December 2005,
I've noticed that you've been saving the same page many times, trying to figure out how a piece of code works. Please make use of the "Show preview" button, found next to the "Save page" button at the bottom of the page. Each time a page is saved, a copy of the current revision is saved. This is an important feature of NSwiki, as it helps us prevent vandalism, but is also uses up server space. This adds up quickly when the page is saved many times. Using "Show preview" allows you to check all changes, to make sure you haven't made any mistakes in the code, without unnecessarily saving. So if you're trying to perform a complicated bit of code, please click the "show preview" button before saving the page. Thanks for using NSwiki responsibly.

I know the wording is fuzzy, so you can change that all you want, but how's the aesthetic aspect? The template is at Template:Preview2test → Ceo\squawk 01:20, December 2, 2005 (GMT)

Changes look good. I added the sentence about noticing that the user had actually caused a problem; otherwise it seems a little ambiguous why the message was sent. Otherwise, looks good. → Ceo\squawk 03:25, December 2, 2005 (GMT)
Why aren't the testing templates we have sufficient? You could probably modify one of them to cover this type of preview-testing. --[[Insert non-formatted text hereUser:Pacitalia|Paci]]talkia 05:21, 2 December 2005 (GMT)

Welcome Template

I looked at the page (with the old welcome template), and it doesn't look obvious that they're being "templated". On the edit page, it doesn't show the pagename variable. Am I missing something? → Ceo\squawk 02:24, December 3, 2005 (GMT)

Oh. It does. :) The problem appears to stem from using nested templates. An obvious solution would be to variablize the {{PAGENAME}}s, and then just have the code look like {{Welcome|{{subst:pagename}}}}. But's that probably not viable, as the template is already in such widespread use. It would probably be best to ask Goober; I know he did some stuff with nested templates on the nation infobox, so he might know. On the other hand, that was with a previous version of NSwiki. I guess I don't really know what to do here, but maybe I've sparked some ideas... → Ceo\squawk 02:43, December 3, 2005 (GMT)

Requesting Admin Assistance

Again. :) The problem is Category:Languages/Ri'Hannsu/B and Category:Languages/Ri'Hannsu/A. Both of them contain no pages and the content seems to belong on an article page. I can't move categories. Do admins have the power to do that? Or will it have to be a c+p job? You might also want to check out Category:Languages/Ri'Hannsu, which I can't make any sense of. Thanks. → Ceo\squawk 03:55, December 4, 2005 (GMT)

OK. I don't think he'll respond, seeing has he has only edited on one day way back in October. But it's worth a try. → Ceo\squawk 04:08, December 4, 2005 (GMT)

"Requesting deletion" discussion

Why does this take place in my discussion space? It doesn't seem to have anything to do with me. --F2B 05:52, 6 December 2005 (GMT)

Oh, I see now. It took a while because there wasn't any specific mention of the empty category that was being discussed and it's been a while! --F2B 06:01, 6 December 2005 (GMT)

Listing Templates?

On NSwiki:Info boxes, there is a list of basic templates. However, I wanted to bounce off a sysop the idea of making another or the same page for other, more advanced templates that would be of use for advanced users, like Infobox Country P for PEEL nations, Infobox WS Nation for a Wikipedia-styled box, River for rivers, School for schools, and other templates. This would save people having to find them through Special:Allpages or through other pages. Just a thought. → Ceo\squawk 23:43, December 8, 2005 (GMT)

  • I'm not a sysop, but I wanted to say that eventually I was going to start making some schools / universities, and think that there is a basic need for a template / info box for them, so in general feel having some sort of page pointing to these sorts of tools and perhaps a good example per category might be nice. Mikitivity 23:51, 8 December 2005 (GMT)
Very incomplete start made at NSwiki:Advanced Templates. I hope it doesn't have to be protected from vandalism, that would prevent non-sysops from adding any new ones... → Ceo\squawk 00:37, December 9, 2005 (GMT)
Ok. We'll work from there. I can't see any point protecting it at this stage. Thanks. Gruen2alk 00:42, 9 December 2005 (GMT)

Possible Revision of NSwiki:Info boxes?

See my talk page for details. This was suggested by another user who's name I can't spell, but it's there. → Ceo\squawk 01:16, December 10, 2005 (GMT)

Perfect. → Ceo\squawk 02:15, December 10, 2005 (GMT)

Vandalism Check

I reverted vandalism at OPArsenal. But the article I reverted it to doesn't look like it belongs in NSwiki, and that was the first or second version. I thought a sysop might want to check it out... → Ceo\squawk 19:15, December 11, 2005 (GMT)

Re:Signing

Yeah, I guess I forgot to sign it that time...thanks for the reminder. → Ceo\squawk 05:22, December 12, 2005 (GMT)

Run Forrest, Run!

Cheers for the deletion, the Sports characters Cat looks slighty better now. - Star 14:41, December 13, 2005 (GMT)

Wow, you really are bored

Thanks for the userbox info thingies tip. I was mostly just digging at Commerce Heights for being a big programming geek, the highest form of geekdom. Or should that be lowest... I can never figure that one out. - Star 16:01, December 21, 2005 (GMT)

Edits to Template: MI Nations

It seems like both for Template: MI Nations and my ripoff of it for my region, Template: IOABW Nations, the top heading text used to be centered but it no longer is. I centered it again, but I wanted to tell you in case you intended it to be off to the side. → Ceo\squawk 17:22, December 24, 2005 (GMT)

Someone Needs a Block

Special:Contributions/202.177.185.14 vandalized three pages today. Sozy reverted his nation page, and I reverted the other two. → Ceo \ squawk 23:35, 27 December 2005 (GMT)

NSwiki:Info boxes and a change of the city infobox

Swilatia changed the city infobox to include a field for a flag or image. This has left a lot of pages having a triple curly brace and "flag" on their infobox, but, unfortuneately, all new users who use NSwiki:Info boxes for it will have the same problem. Could you use your adminly powers to make a note of the new box on the sample code on NSwiki:Info boxes? The discussion of adding the flag box is on NSwiki:Village pump. Thanks. → Ceo \ squawk 17:51, 28 December 2005 (GMT)

I ran a few searches, and there appears to be no problem anywhere. Thanks. → Ceo \ squawk 18:43, 28 December 2005 (GMT)

DOS Jargon

Hello, what does the term 'DOS' mean?

user:Constantina, December 29th 2005

I don't mean to butt in on Gruen's talk page, but Constantina, it means "delete on sight". :) → Ceo \ squawk 16:20, 29 December 2005 (GMT)
