Links in resolution text

I removed Wikipedia links defining 'Open source' and 'Freeware' from IT Education Initiative (removed) and place them in a separate section. I think it's good you provided definitions for those who don't understand them, but I don't feel we should do so within resolution text, even in the form of links, as this function is not available in the actual resolution. Feel free to make your case if you think we should reinsert them, though.Gruen2alk 00:21, 7 November 2005 (GMT)

I hadn't realized there was precedent. I would consider removing those links, too. I simply believe that adding definitions to resolutions is misleading. However complex the text, we should present it 'naked' on the Wiki page, and then pile on all the links we want. We will probably need to consult others to reach some consensus. Could you hold off reinsertion just for the moment, until we agree?Gruen2alk 00:55, 7 November 2005 (GMT)
Right, but my objection isn't to 'practicality', or 'how the internet works': it's about how the NSUN works. You are effectively condoning non-approved definitions within an approved text. That introduces levels of interference that I am uncomfortable with. I still believe we should be adding these definitional aids to (external) links sections.Gruen2alk 01:06, 7 November 2005 (GMT)

Blanking obselete pages

Please don't delete the content of pages. You left Repeal "DVD region removal" blank. You were right that it was duplicated at Repeal "DVD Region Removal", but creating blank pages is confusing. In this case, it's best to link to the other page: use the syntax #redirect [[Name of other page]] to do this. Anyone going to the first page will get automatically redirected to the other.Gruen2alk 16:43, 7 November 2005 (GMT)

No problem.Gruen2alk 17:59, 7 November 2005 (GMT)

Factbooks for UN resolution authors

Thanks for doing this: I notice you add the resolution and the author to a nation category. Remember to 'create' the category though (you may have noticed the Category:Antrium link, for example, was red after you added [[Category:Antrium]] to Labeling Standards. To do this, go to the category page, such as Category:Antrium, and add [[Category:Factbooks]] to the bottom.Gruen2alk 01:31, 9 November 2005 (GMT)

They should appear blue: they do to me now. You may need to refresh of reload your browser before the link appears 'fixed'.Gruen2alk 00:10, 10 November 2005 (GMT)

Fancy signatures

Sure. Mine's a bit of an eyesore, so you may want to go for something more...normal. Go to your Special:Preferences page, which is linked in the top right normally, and under User data, the third option should be nick. It probably says Love and esterel or something. To change it to sign you as Bob, simply type Bob into that space. Don't add [[square brackets]]. So I changed mine to 'Gruen'...but it still links to User:Gruenberg2.

Then, to get colors, use this format: Bob --> Bob. You can use hex codes too: Bob. Use something that'll be legible, and not too garish.

Finally, I find it's handy to link to your talk page, so people can comment straight away. You'll notice I link to my talk page with 2alk. To do this you need to end the link to your user page, by adding in ]] - two square close brackets. Then put anything you want in the middle - usually just a space or a pipe. I didn't put anything, and I don't really think there's any need to. Then start the link to your talk page, by adding [[ - two square open brackets. Type User talk:Love and esterel, then add a pipe (|), and then type whatever you want the link to say, including colours.

So, all together, here's what my signature is: Gruen]][[User talk:Gruenberg2|2alk<nowiki>. This comes out as ~~~ when I sign off with four tildes. To give you an idea, I made one for you: you can fiddle about or try something completely different, but it's a start. <nowiki>L]]&[[User talk:Love and esterel|E should come out as L&E

If you have trouble with it, drop me a note on my talk page. And remember to save when you're updating your preferences.Gruen2alk 00:10, 10 November 2005 (GMT)

'Tri-Alliance'?

"Tri-alliance" means there are three alliances. The name of your media alliance makes no sense. See also Talk:Repeal "DVD Region Removal". Omigodtheykilledkenny 19:01, 24 January 2006 (GMT)
