V(ALANCE) G(REGORY) BROWNHAT

V.G Brownhat, Grischun poet, writer and philosopher and was one of the most influential literary figures in Euskalherria and the NationStates world as a whole.

HIS LIFE

Brownhat was born just outside Chur in Grischun in a town known as Lindt to Prismosian parents who fled to Grischun during the Prismosian depression. Brownhat’s father Theodore worked at the steel mill while his mother Leda was a part time nurse at Lindt infirmary.

Brownhat during his younger years was described as shy and a quiet loner who shown a great aptitude for writing. So much so Brownhat passed a free scholarship entry to the University of Chur. While he was at Chur his writing developed more and his intellect was shaped by the world around him. It was at this time that the propaganda parties were making their way through the Grischun which heavily influenced his poetry and philosophical thought.

HIS WORKS

During Brownhat’s lifetime propaganda parties were teaching that democracy had no place in Grischun and that empirical, hereditary martial law inspired by Julius Caesar would make Grischun a leading nation in Euskalherria. Brownhat thought contrary to this as he believed democracy could only lead to the progression of a State. This was written in his best book known to date “The Liberty of the Old and the New” which emphasised a country could only move forward with either a President or Prime minister.

Brownhat continued to write in secret about his political and philosophical feelings as any discovery of his literature by the propaganda party could have be seen as treason especially from a second generation citizen. He was therefore more famed for his poetry at that time as the passing of his father led him to write the anthology “the sparrow and the sword” which contained elegies as well as nonsensical poems about life in general. His last blank verse epic entitled “Elephantine Memoirs” was a romantic war time story set in the future. It didn’t receive much critical acclaim as the propaganda party began to ban Brownhat’s poetry.

HIS INFLUENCE

Brownhat’s books were discovered two years after his death and were printed and sold in secret by students from the University of Chur. Many highlight the fact that Brownhat’s best selling book “the Liberty of the Old and New” paved the way for democratic reform in Euskalherria as it gave birth to Fähnlein movement in Grischun as well as the Liberty party of Prismos. Brownhat’s criticisms of religion and state and communism may have also fuelled the democratic process in Monogolia. His criticism of the United Nations’ Veto also may have contributed to the non existence of the veto in the AN.

However controversy remains, as Brownhat accentuated that a State need to have a President or Prime minister he also was adamant in his teaching that ideally the leader would be male. He was therefore critical of women’s movements in Euskalherria asserting that they have stressed equality but have overall made men less equal. Other controversy included the separation of monarch and state as well as religion and state, as some of Euskalherria’s nations are monarchies and theocracies they dismiss Brownhat’s writings as “liberal conjecture.”

Whatever the beliefs surrounding V.G Brownhat nobody disputes his writings had a great influence on the nations of Euskalherria and beyond. His ideas led to democratic revolutions, his poems inspired millions and “The Liberty of the Old and New” has beaten the Emperor’s Manifesto of the best selling book to date in Euskalherria. Attempts to revive Brownhat’s works are under going by both Grischun and the United States of Prismos to create a new renaissance in Euskalherria, the recent discovery of the oldest Brownhat manuscript in Chur has revitalized the effort.
