The Imperial Republic of Valkyron

The history of the Imperial Republic is long and tedious; its kings, queens, emperors, and senators have changed its governments and policies countless times. This article seeks to educate the reader on the newly formed Imperial Republic; to explain how a republic can be "imperial" and why we still have a functioning monarch.

Government of Janis IX

The Republic of Asgard

The Republic of Asgard was formed in a day when the mighty empire Arctonia was destroying all who opposed its leader, the self-appointed "goddess". The republic was made up of a lose confederation of states seeking to avoid the total devestation that followed the wake of an Arctonian invasion.

Prime Minister Kavaduliska "Emperor Janis I"

During the war, Prime Minister Kavaduliska secretly orchestrated the invasion of Asgardean lands by the Arctonians in an effort to force other countries to join the Republic. Kavaduliska also alligned himself with the secret society "Kurai" which had branches all over the world. With emergency powers granted him by the Senate, and hundreds of countries, municipalities, states, etc. joining the Republic daily, Kavaduliska was set up as the most powerful man in the universe.

The Imperial Janisarian Empire

With sufficient strength, Kavaduliska abolished the Senate, defeated Arctonia, and set himself up as Janis I, newly crowned emperor of the Janisarian Empire. Here follows a list of successors, and laws of the Janisarian Empire:

The Pacific war

The beginning reign of Janis IX marked the beginning of the greatest spell of power and wealth for the Janisarian empire. Janis IX pulled up his newly formed air fleet of the Air Ship Corp. and promptly invaded the pacific lands. The Pacific Alliance (The Kingdom of Ironcore, The Kingdom of Ragnoria, The Federation of Herodon, and the Duchy) fought bravely and defeated the armies of Janis IX.

The Imperial Republic of Valkyron

After being hospitalized in the pacific, Janis IX was powerless to stop the civil wars, failing economies, rebellions, and political corruption that were occuring within the Janisarian Empire. The Emperor's brother, Ragnis, called up a council within the Imperial Senate to create a new stable state. The first council failed miserably. The second council was held in an old estate known as La Estat du La Valkyron`e, Land of the Falcon. It was here, the Senate voted in the newly formed government created by a joint agreement of Ragnis & his supporters, and the Republic of Valkyron was officially created. Upon the return of Janis IX, the Emperor was sworn in as leader of the Republic, and was forced (he willingly did so) to protect the Republic forever.

The Republic Today

How can a republic you ask, be so decidingly imperial in its legislation and power? The answer is the role of the emperor is two-fold, when the Emperor acts as Emperor he is performing traditional roles of ceremony, when the emperor acts as leader of the Republic he is performing the roles of an executive. The Emperor's power is that of a CEO, for extensive purposes he is a president, chancellor, prime minister etc. The only difference between our Emperor and a president is that he is neither elected nor serves a term. The Emperor's power however, can be limited to such an extent that he simply ceases to perform the roles of his office; such a case would come about due to a complete lack of confidence within the democratic system that would impair any funding towards his government.

How do individual states retain some autonomy?

This question is difficult to answer, in the past (Janisarian Empire) individual states were allowed to maintain a considerable amount of power in governing their own people. Today however, the states have little or no power outside of what is acceptible by their imperial state governments. These same state governments however, ultimately are run by the people of the state, so while traditional governments within these very states may have little or no power, the new elected governments under the Republic do. Given these seperation of powers, it is not acceptible to refer to the Republic as a federation because their is no real balance between state governments and the Imperial Government; ultimately, everything works in favor of the imperial.

• Although, individual states still retain their names, governments (for traditional roles and repeals), and traditional leaders (kings, queens, etc.)
  • The only state to retain autonomic control within its borders is that of Asgyrd, which is considered more a district of the government (since the government is housed within its borders).

Religion

Although once a sprawling Christian nation, the people of Valkyron are decidingly non-religious. Years of anit-religious sentiments by the previous government, including departments such as the deparment of Religious Intolerance have made religion a secondary priority in a burgeoning world. Although completely legal, most people would claim a religion only in statistics and polling; subsequently, churches tend to be packed out only on holidays. The only church funded by the state is the Royal Church of Asgyrd which is a mixture of Norse/Christian beliefs, and is the origin of the Imperial Cult which once deified the Emperor (it still does in tradition).

The Tao of Janis

An increasingly popular religious movement stemming from the personal beliefs of Janis IX is the way of the Tao. Today, it is completely normal for cities to be planned around the notions of Feng Shui, and for citizens to plan their personal lives around it as well. The Church of Holy Flux is a Christian church created by Janis IX to mix the beliefs of Taoism with that of Christianity (If Janis had his way, Christianity would find itself outside the picture). More and more citizens today are identifying themselves as Taoist since it strikes a nice balance between being religious and being secular.

Imperial Practices

• Free marriage laws
  • Heterosexual & Homosexual marriages completely recognized by the government
    • The government leaves it up to individual churches to allow a ceremony
      • if a ceremony is performed the government must acknowledge it
      • the government can also perform ceremonies freely within the the Royal Church of Asgyrd
  • Although married for purposes of an heir, there is gossip that Janis IX is himself gay, something that appears to run within the Royal Line.
• Abortion laws
  • Abortion recognized by the state for beginning levels of pregnancy
    • partial birth, second trimester, and third trimester abortions are outlawed.
• Compulsery voting
  • Every citizen must vote; voting ballads are mailed with the filing of imperial taxes.
• Drug laws
  • Valkyron recognizes the right of its citizens to their own bodies and minds; therefore, given age and selling requirements, all manner of drugs are considered legal.
• Euthenasia
  • Completely legal, a person's life is their own, the government can not stop a citizen from taking his/her own life. However, if the suicide of an individual results in an encroachment of another's rights, then the family of the suicidee can be held responsible.
    • circumstancial usage can result however in confiscation and imprisonment.

The sprawlig Bureaucracy

The Imperial bureaucracy is probably the most autonimic/powerful institution within the land; as such, the vast bureaucratic machine has unofficially created 5 "governments" each unique to a deparment, and while these governments are unofficially and ultimately under the command of the republic, they still exercise enormous power. Each "government" has its own hierarchy, laws, traditions, language, and at times religion. Ultimately, each Minister receives a vote of confidence from the emperor then must be confirmed ("elected")by the parliament.

      • Free International trade is limited, trade can be conducted with other countries but actual Valkyrian organizations within other countries is highly regulated.

    • Acts as minister of the C.S (Deparment of Religion)
    • Acting head/CEO of the Royal Church of Asgyrd
    • Appoints Cardinals to serve on the Upper Council of Asgyrd
    • Appoints Bishops to serve on the lower Council of Asgyrd
      • Both levels are collectively known as the Cathedral of Souls (Deparment of Religion).

H.I.H

His Imperial Highness Janis IX was born October 19, 2*** in the Republic of Asgyrd. In his day, the Empire was ruled by a coalition of corporate executives who called themselves "The Agandars" and administered executive control of the country. Janis' father, Janis VIII had been a powerful puppet of the Agandars and was rumored to have been assasinated by them when he lost his "usefulness". When Janis was crowned Emperor the title meant little, a fixed income, traditional roles of state, and a forced smile during public relations to let the people think everything was fine. But the government of the Agandars was anything but o.k, beneath the ranks discontent grew, imperialists loyal to the cause of the throne built hidden bases of power to rescue Janis IX from his imprisoned facade. When Janis was 17 the war for independence began, Janis seeking to avoid total bloodshed, managed to orchestrate calculated battles away from civilian centers. The war ultimately ended when the victorious armies of Janis IX marched through the city of Constantinople, the presiding capitol of the Agandars. As supreme monarch, Janis realized absolute power would come at a price: namely, civil strife and rebellion. To counter rebellious activity, Janis redrew the Imperial government under his famous "Tablet of Janis" following the traditions of his predecessors in creating their own governing styles. Unlike his predecessors however, Janis' government gave a tremendous amount of power to the people and limited the emperor's power to only what he could gain through influence. Unbeknowest to his people, Janis' government was strengthening his position of power and setting the stage for an enormous world war. Janis introduced rail and steam power to the Empire, he also created an imperial air corp and upgraded the army to meet the demands of a technological world. With sufficient strength, Janis was now ready to begin his invasion of the pacific, the last remaining stronghold of the free world. He politically manipulated politicians within the pacific and was thus enabled to strategically place his soldiers and commanders in key locations. The invasion began with the conquering of the Duchy, which against all odds managed to retain its autonomy in the western side of its borders. The Imperial armies then may alliances (forced) and trade agreements with the other empires of the pacific, the Kingdom of Ironcore, The kingdom of Ragnoria, the Republic of Ironcore, and the Federation of Herodon. When his power reaching a peak, Janis pulled up the entire air corps. of the Empire and launched the largest invasion ever known to man against the Federation. Imperial ships easily swept over the island nation; however, it was soon revealed that the federation had hidden outposts and cities on a newly discovered continent they had named "Midgard". A unified pacific alliance under the command of the Regent of the Federation launched a counterattack on the shores of Midgard and successfully repelled the imperials, pushing them back to their holdings in the Duchy.

A Gay Affair?

Janis IX is officially maried to H.I.H Empress Sarai Le vonde of the powerful Elis Arms Corporation. However, like many of his predecessors Janis secretly keeps a romantic relationship alive with a young marquis named Marquis Ontreyu Jesi Oriyon, whom he has shared an affair with for the last 10 years. Given the weak state of the Catholic Church within the Republic, Janis has something none of his predecessors could claim: the right to love someone of the same gender without the encroachment of the church or a governing body.
