Vasco da Gama (often shortened to Vasco) is a city in the province of Santo Tomàs on the west coast of Clandon. It is named for the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama. The city lies on the western tip of the Mormugão peninsula, at the mouth of the Zuari River.
History
Vasco was founded in 1543 by the Portuguese. Vasco lost its fame until King Clandon made it the new provincial capital of Santo Tomàs. After its shoot to fame, many Spanish merchants immigrated here. Soon the Spanish took over the province and now the city and the province is predominantly of Spanish background.
Getting to the City
Vasco is well connected by road, rail, sea and air. It is connected by road by the Bombay-Sarca-Vasco Highway, numerous estradas (Portuguese for highway) by rail by the CRABS connections, by the sea through the Vasco City Harbor and by air by the Dabolim International airport.
