The Vertosan Language is based largely on the form of English spoken throughouth the world, however there are some significant differences...

A language that was spoken in the nation of Vertosa before it was eventually outlawed

History of the Language

Vertosan developed out of Typical English, but many found that the written form of it was difficult to master, especially when teaching it as a second language...

Taking this statement into consideration, we can track changes throughout time and see how the standard English in its written form became more phonetic...

The word Language for example would become Langwij

The word especially would become espeshally

The word phonetic would become fonnetik

Problems encountered

As the public began to be more liberal with their spelling, chaos was to follow. It wasn't until the year 2000, with the signing of the Vertosan Constitution, that the language was codified and the first University of Centesai: Full Dictionary of Terms was published.

The lapse in spelling regulation also meant that inconsitencies in the grammar occured. Subsequently, a law was passed stating that all written communication was to adhere to new grammatical rules. Unfortunately, no-one came up with an acceptable style format. In an emergency session of the National Legislature, it was decided that all government business be conducted in English (the standard version).

A problem solved?

Subsequently, the nation of Vertosa descended into a dark period in its history. Illiteracy levels rose to record highs and the economy began to destabilise. A young councillor in the Assembly campaigned for a return to Standard English, and the abolishon of University of Centesai: Full Dictionary of Terms. He then went on to win the Presidential Election!

Since Vertosa returned to using English as its main language, University of Centesai: Full Dictionary of Terms 2nd Edition has been published.

Vertosan langauge is now only used in the remotest parts of the Vertosan Empire.
