The Autonomous People of Vitøgorüd is one of the first entirely communist communities in the world, as well as one of the only nations to reach technological singularity. Vitøgorüd is a square-shaped landmass in the North Atlanic and under the official sovereignty of the nation of Callisdrun. It borders the Sovika Ice Field and the Arctic Ocean to the North; the Litenhav Sea to the North-east; the Mason Sea to the East, South, and South-east; and the Atlantic Ocean to the West and South-west. Vitøgorüd is part of the Potemkin Archipelago and is one of the largest islands in the North Atlantic, and it is currently the key destination for many immigrants fleeing Chinese oppressive from Tyrandin Korea and Japan.

The Vitøsh, as they are known, are generally an economically communist people who give what help they can to those in need around the world. They were granted their protection in 1970 when the United Nations passed Resolution No. 050-13C-44B (Cultural Protection Act) making it against international law to attack, interfere, or indirectly jeopardize the living standard and sovereignty of Vitøsh people and their community of Vitøgorüd. Since the passing of the Cultural Protection Act, individuals deemed terrorists by generally right-wing nations have fled to Vitøgorüd in order to protect themselves from the persecution by their respective governments. This is further helped by the complete lack of any extradition policy between the Vitøsh community and any other national or supranational entity.

Generally, Vitøsh foreign policy is that of openness and staunch anti-fascist and internationalist position. Due to the unique system of democracy in Vitøgorüd, the community as a whole is capable of deciding what nations, people, or organizations of community wishes to open relations with and support or condemn. This is possible through massive technological advancements since 1980 when technological singularity was reached in Vitøgorüd. Through cybernetic augmentations, direct democracy has become possible and virtually instantaneous in the Vitøsh community.

Vitøgorüd is by any standard, an industrialized, civilized, and safe nation. It currently has one of the highest Human Development Indexes in the world, and is considered by many to be the best place to raise children in the world. Tourists to Vitøgorüd regularly decide to move to the Potemkin Archipelago and stay the rest of their lives in order to live in a society where government, class, and discrimination are virtually non-existent. For this reason, the population of Vitøgorüd continues to rapidly increase from year to year. Originally housing only five million people, the main island of the Potemkin Archipelago now houses roughly twenty-million people with an annual immigration rate of three thousand a year. Due to the massive growth rate of the island, further cooperative-urbanization has been undertaken to both protect the environment and allow for more people to live on the archipelago. Currently, forty-eight percent of the main island is urbanized, ten percent for agricultural production, and the rest unpopulated or sparsely populated.

Society

Communications

For more information on communications, please see the singularity portion of this article.

Communications in Vitøgorüd are extremely complex and yet simple to use. Phone systems have all but been abolished since singularity in favor of the Network. Print media is rare except for books; newspapers are all electronics based as well. For this reason, Vitøgorüd is not known to be the most literary-based of societies in that context; however, most Vitøsh people - whether through cybernetic augmentations or sheer intelligence - are more intelligent than the average individual of any relative country.

Culture and ethnicity

The culture of Vitøgorüd is highly complex and varied. Hints of Norwegian, Russian, and German were the original main veins that ran through the Vitøsh people; however, with massive amounts of immigrants flowing mostly from the Far East in an attempt to escape Chinese oppression, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese culture has begun to massively influence the people and culture of Vitøgorüd. Due to this melting-pot of a culture, the Vitøsh people have created their own word for their society: perfekten verden ("perfect world" in Vitøsh).

Economy

Vitøgorüd does not - as perceived by the capitalist world - have an economy. However, Vitøsh society follows the basis of a gift economy where the means of production are collectively owned. There is also a firm distinction between personal and collective property; however, neither are sold but are given.

Education

Education is not mandatory in Vitøgorüd; however, if one wishes to partake in the democratic system - it is expected. Vitøgorüd operates on a rudimentary, to primary, to secondary, to post-secondary and vocational schooling system. If one enters the Vitøsh schooling system, he or she should expect to be taught both academics and labor skills from the primary educational level upward. This insures that each member of the Vitøsh society is capable of adding to society as a whole.

Language

The language of the Vitøsh people is simply known as Vitøsh. There are Norwegian, Russian, German, and now growing Japanese dialects of Vitøsh. Also, due to continued immigration to the islands, tribal and national groups continue to bring their distinct languages to the country and integrating it into the Vitøsh-tongue.

Life expectancy

The life expactancy of the people of Vitøgorüd is extremely high in relation to much of the world. Due to a combination of a near complete lack of pollution, social welfare programs, and the unique form of society, Vitøsh people of each sex can expect to live and be active to at least the age of ninety with many people breaking 100 each year and continuing to be active in politics and the community. For this reason, many wealthy individuals around the world have attempted to purchase land in the mountain ranges of Vitøgorüd and other eareas; however, due to the general political affiliation of the country, individuals wishing to buy land are generally completely ignored if not completely hated and ostracized. Wealthy people visiting Vitøgorüd are also generally not welcome and there has been at least one case of the Workers' Self-Defense Corps forcing a wealthy family to leave Vitøgorüd.

The Vitøsh people have also made it a key goal not to harm as much of the environment unless necessary. For this reason, only those needed to harvest and grow food live in non-urban areas. The other regions are mostly unoccupied for this reason except for scientific and monitoring outposts in the far North and West.

Defense

Part of the Cultural Protection Act was that a nation protected by the resolution must not have a standing army; Vitøgorüd has been able to bypass this ammendment by the creation of the Workers' Self-Defense Corps: a loosely connected group of units created to protect the country in case of invasion. Yet, through instantaneous communication and collective consciousness, the WSDC is able to become mobilized at nearly a moment's notice if it is necessary. For this reason, many nations view Vitøgorüd as a sleeping giant.

Politics

Vitøgorüd follows the systems known as council communism and direct democracy. There are currently four tiers of the Vitøsh political system:

  • Represenative Committee: Responsible for international relations, upholding the Workers' Committee's rulings, and enforcing these rulings by use of the Workers' Self-Defense Corps.
  • Workers' Committee(s): Responsible for creating and enacting laws which the Vitøsh people must follow. If they are believed to be unconstitutional, they are immediately repealed. They are also responsible for worker protection on the community level.
  • Judicial Council(s): Responsible for punishing the those who attempt to defy the general workers' will and for repealing unconstitutional laws.
  • Circles: Small, community and work-force based groups responsible for protecting the workers interests and revolting if ever necessary.

There are currently no political parties in Vitøgorüd and it is believed that it is for the best. Generally, Vitøsh believe that political parties are much like special interest groups and only serve to better their own goals. Circles can however claim different names (Workers' League, Communist League, etc.), but are still considered simply Circles.

Religion

Religion does not play a major role in any part of Vitøsh society. Over eighty percent of the population of Vitøgorüd is either atheist or agnostic. The other ten percent are small spiritual traditions brought by immigrants (mostly by the Moroii of Callisdrun). For this reason, Vitøgorüd is an extremely accepting, secular society that allows freedom of religion, freedom of press, and freedom of assembly while keeping a very distinct division between church and affairs.

Sex and gender

Vitøgorüd currently has 1.3 females for every male. However, recent births have began to caused a reverasal (1.3 males for every female) to occur. It is unknown the reasonf or this; however, is is expected that this cycle will slowly reverse and continue to do so in a four year wavelength. Same-sex-marriages were never illegal in Vitøgorüd. For this reason, discrimination between heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, and trangendered individuals is virtually non-existent. It also does not play a key-role in Vitøsh politics.

Sufferage

Universal sufferage (drinking, smoking, voting, etc.) for Vitøgorüd begins at age fourteen. The Vitøsh people believe that teenagers are capable of deciding on their own exactly what to do.

Transportation

Transportation in the urbanized areas of Vitøgorüd are well developed and kept; however, once outside of the major urbanized area, transportation becomes difficult. Due to volcanic activity and extreme weather, roads are unable to be kept. Thus, when leaving the urbanized sectors to the agricultural (or other sectors) sector, is is best to use snow mobiles in winter and horses in summer and fall. Yet, excluding these facts, Vitøgorüd has one of the best public transportation systems in the world. Vitøgorüd is known to utilize both electric and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles in order to travel in urban sectors.

Urban-rural distribution

Due to the unique style of urban planning the Vitøsh follow, over ninety percent of Vitøgorüd's population lives in areas classified as urban. However, at least fiver percent of the population lives in the single agricultural based area within the Dovre region. Currently, their is only one city in Vitøgorüd (simply called Vitøgorüd or the Community) and the agricultural sector has no official designation. For this reason, foreigners have been known to be confused on where to travel while touring due to the many unique names given to different areas by different people.

International relations

Due to the unique system Vitøgorüd follows, it has created many enemies around the world. However, it does have several allies and close international friends around the world. The following is a complete list of its allies - red being enemy/hostile and blue being ally/friend, and black being neutral
