West Ariddia’s presence on the world football scene has so far been limited to brief appearances in the World Cup, the last of which was in World Cup 9. There are at present no plans for a come-back, but the country retains a national team nonetheless.

West Ariddia’s most famous player of all times is undoubtedly Lily Mayantar. Now an old lady and long-since retired, she remains admired even in enemy Ariddia, and a symbolic figure to West Ariddia’s present-day team.

West Ariddia in the World Cup

  • World Cup 7: In their first participation in the Cup, the team got no further than the qualifying stages, going down with an honourable three wins, three draws and four losses.
  • World Cup 8: In their second attempt, West Ariddia again failed to make it past the qualifying stages, finishing last but one in their group, with three wins, a draw and six losses.
  • World Cup 9: Third time was to prove lucky. The West Ariddians bested five of their seven opponents in the qualifying stages, to just scrape through with seven wins, two draws and five losses. The group stage of the finals, however, was to prove an impossible hurdle, and the team went out with no points at all, having scored two goals and conceded ten.

In World Cup 10, West Ariddia did not take part as a national team, but sent players to take part in an Ariddian team which was to be a unified team for the three Ariddian states. This joint team – in which eighteen of the twenty-three players were, nonetheless, of the PDSRA – finished third overall, prompting a renewal of the experience in World Cup 11. After that, the Ariddian Isles withdrew completely from the Cup, until Ariddia announced its intent to return for World Cup 25.

West Ariddia has yet to follow suit, but West Ariddian companies SunnyFizz and SportOn! were accepted as officiall sponsors for World Cup 25. SportOn! provided footballs equiped with advanced electronic systems able to determine whether or not the ball had crossed any line.
