The Grand Imperium is a large nation based in Northeast Haven. It is bordered directly by land by the Allied Union of Velkya. A short hop across the Whyatican Channel is the nation of Space Union, and south across a series of islands is a collection of warring militias known as Barkozy. The Grand Imperium was formerly known as the Imperial Democracy prior to the Great Imperial Reform done by Emperor Paulus I, in which the Parliament and democracy was dissolved after widespread discontent and a small-scale rebellion within the capital city of Miana. The GIW is a constitutional monarchy, the monarch's powers formerly limited by an amalgamation of documents dating back to the late 1700s C.E. Introduced in C.E. 2007 and approved via Parliamentary and popular vote, the Constitution of 2007 is a document which balances Imperial authority with regional, local, and individual power.

Numerous colonial holdings justify the title of Empire; Irathria, Isle de Les, numerous territories in the Middle-East, and multiple island holdings in Haven. Whyatica has strong economic, cultural, and diplomatic ties with many nations of Haven, particularly Velkya, Aralonia, The Silver Sky, Space Union, Izistan, and Mekugi.

History

Economy

The Grand Imperium wields a strong free-market capitalist economy. There is a flat income tax rate of 12.5% for all individual persons, with no deductions available, and a flat rate of 7.5% for corporations. The government budget is roughly cr50 trillion per year, of which 56% goes into the military, 18% goes into the few public schools subsidized, 13% goes into the police and other domestic services along that vein, 9% into basic health care, and the remainder is used for administrative costs. . Whyatica's economic evolution has permitted the government to assume a night watchman status over the people - meaning, the government exists to provide defense and security for the people and their property, and very generally does not provide anything else. This would not have been possible if not for the period of a social welfare democracy in the mid 1850s that provided nearly everything needed for the people, and since 1863 and the reign of Emperor Leto II, the social benefits and tax rate were slowly cut to the present levels.

Whyatican main exports include: Space technology (Most Whyatican space industries are partnered with Izistani space industries, and together the partnership has cornered a large section of the Northeastern Haven market), uranium, steel, foodstuffs, automobiles, and oil.

Whyatican main imports include: Naval warships, aerospace military technology, tungsten and certain other precious metals and various consumer goods.

Culture

Despite the bizarrely biased UN Rankings, Whyatica is a culturally diverse nation. Whyatican jazz music is regarded as some of the finest music in all of Northeast Haven. Whyaticans tend to not be influenced by foreigners perceived as "snobby bastards" such as the Praetonians, while the Velkyans, Unionists, Skyians, and other Whyatican neighbors are looked upon more favourably by an average Whyatican. There are exceptions to this rule, however - Praetonian influence was instrumental in turning public opinion against the former Prime Minster David McMillin.

A typical life for a Whyatican is to go through the first nine years of public education starting at age 5, and getting a job in the family industry. A few years of savings after that, many Whyaticans enter secondary school and complete their degree. Large employers in the major Whyatican industrials (aerospace, automotive, etc.) will tend to hire candidates enrolled in school and pay for their education, giving them a guaranteed position with the company for a certain number of years provided they get a good grade point average. This particular form of corporate sponsorship has permitted the Whyatican economy to have as many college educated people as nations where education is free, enabling it to compete academically as well as economically.

Drum and Bugle Corps is one of the most popular activities for musically talented young people in Whyatica, with the most talented corps performing for the Emperor himself at the WDCA final championship, in Baritone Dome in Miana. The most popular non-musical sporting event is rugby, despite the deaths in recent times.

Politics

The dominant figure in Whyatican politics, is naturally the reigning Emperor. After he took power in the early months of 2007, he dismissed the entire Imperial Parliament for an indefinite period, and set up national legislative and executive power to himself. He established the Imperial Judiciary as an independent, elected element, and commissioned the authoring of a new Whyatican Constitution that cleared up much of the ambiguosity in the law and limited the Emperor's powers.

The Emperor re-established the Parliament in a general election, with the Liberal Party obtaining enough votes to create a majority government, and the Social Democrat Party forming the official opposition. The Whyatican Parliament is unicameral, and the Emperor can veto any act provided the act does not get 67% support in Parliament.

Set up in every major region of Whyatica is a Regional Parliament, which creates laws for the particular region. There is also an elected Governor for all regions except Clandón, where the governor is an appointed official from the Emperor. The major regions of Whyatica are:

The Whyatican military is highly professional - there are roughly 67 million people employed in the armed forces with all four branches, with a military budget of 15 trillion credits or 11% GDP. The military is split into five branches: Imperial Army, Imperial Navy, Imperial Air Force, Imperial Marines, and the Imperial Space Arm. The Whyatican military has served in several conflicts in recent times: The Clandonia Prime War, the Kahanistan War (Operation Distant Early Warning), the Eurasian Wars, the EVIL War (Operation Hallowed Sabre), and much further back, the colossal war of alliances known as the Last Great War.
