Woodstock is the capital of the Incorporated States of Sarzonia. With a population of a modest 6.7 million, the city is not among the largest in Sarzonia, but with the nation enjoying international prestige due in part to the Portland Iron Works and the exploits of the Incorporated Sarzonian Navy, the Sarzonian capital is certainly not unheard of. Woodstock is the seat of the federal government of Sarzonia and much like the United States, it resides as a capital district separate from any state. Unlike the capital of the former United States of America, citizens of Woodstock are entitled to full representation in Parliament with one Delegate and two Senators.

Landmarks

Gray House

The first thing people notice about Woodstock is the Gray House, the mansion where the President resides. The current President, Mike Sarzo, chose metallic grey for the main colour of his mansion, preferring a look based on practicality to aesthetics. The building has been fortified with a titanium/aluminum alloy in an effort to provide passive defence against potential attack. The name "Gray House" was originally coined when Sarzonia's original population of former U.S. citizens dominated Sarzonian English. Even when an influx of former subjects of both Isselmere-Nieland and Praetonia and former citizens of Pacitalia changed the character of Sarzonian English to British-flavoured, the original spelling of "Gray House" was retained for tradition's sake.

Parliament Hall

Sarzonia's Parliament Hall

Built as a replica of Maryland's State House, Parliament Hall was the scene of the first meeting of Parliament shortly after the colony of Sarzonia was established in 2000. It was the scene of the Declaration of Sovereignty that was submitted to the United States on March 13, 2004. After eight days of debate, the U.S. Senate officially recognised Sarzonia as independent. The building was badly damaged in the Camian Wars by a space-borne attack, but with Parliament hiding in underground bunkers, the government was able to reconvene at the Graham Nash Amphitheatre after Sarzonia and several nations defeated Cam III.

John Paul Stevens Building

Dedicated three days after Sarzonia's establishment as an independent nation, the John Paul Stevens building is the home of the nation's highest court. The Supreme Judicial Court meets every year from 13 January to 10 September, hearing cases that have made their way through the circuit courts, courts of appeals, and local courts. The Chief Justice, six Associate Justices, and four Assistant Justices all have separate office quarters and render decisions from the John Jay Room.

Max Yasgur Centre for the Performing Arts

Named after the man whose farm was the scene of the Woodstock Music Festival in 1969, the Max Yasgur Centre hosts world-famous musical acts such as the Praefeles and Fennerby. Its crowning achievement was a concert performed by rock legend Stevie Nicks for Sarzo on his 50th birthday. She performed both the Sarzonian national anthem "Freedom," and the Presidential honourary song, "Destiny Rules," both of which she either wrote or co-wrote in addition to a set that included "Landslide," "Stand Back," "Edge of Seventeen," and "Fall From Grace." The building has been designated a National Historic Landmark.

Military History Museum

Devoted to the study of military technology, wars, tactics, and strategy, the Military History Museum was established recently for a clientele that includes students at the Woodstock Military Academy, the Sarzonian service academies, and history buffs the world over. Admission is $2.00 Sarzonian for native citizens, $2.50 for citizens of Tier One allies (Praetonia, Isselmere-Nieland, Skinny87, Romandeos), and $5.00 for all others. The museum was built to draw a wider audience than the famous Naval Museum located in Nicksia.

Transportation

Woodstock International Jetport

Despite Woodstock's population of 6.7 million, the Jetport hasn't kept up with the growth of the nation's capital. The Jetport has a sparse 18 gates in three terminals, though nearby Central Airport in suburban Saugerties makes up for the small size of the Jetport. However, when most major leaders plan a state visit to Sarzonia, the Jetport is where they land due to its proximity to the Gray House and Parliament Hall.

Woodstock Public Transit Service

With an ultramodern subway, light rail, and bus service subsidised by the federal and city governments, the Woodstock Public Transit Service has become known for being among the best-maintained in the world. It combines inexpensive fares ($1.00 Sarzonian for one way fare on the bus; $1.25 for a one way fare on light rail; and $2.50 for a one way fare on the subway) with a clean, safe service for a frequently-used alternative to driving the Woodstock Beltway or the Turnpike. However, if you're on an escalator, be sure to stand to the right or you'll incur the wrath of the populace!

Sports

The Woodstock Wild have won seven Incorporated Football Federation championships and a AO Champions League title and are currently competing in the NS Champions League. The team play their home games at Bryan Marshall Stadium, built across the street from the site of their previous home, Hendrix Stadium. The Palestra hosts basketball, hockey, and handball games.
