The Xarraong Disaster was an easily preventable financial collapse that destroyed the previously bustling city of Xarraong.

The New York Jet Crazy Maniacs Party

Philip Greenwell created, single-handedly, the New York Jet Fanatics Crazy Maniacs Party. The New York Jet Crazy Maniacs party was built upon the belief that all people are Nechapi, literally, Crazy Maniacs. Hence the name: Crazy Maniacs Party. In 2370, the New York Jets Political Organization for the Protection of Rights of Staple Removers abruptly collapsed after the death of Rudolfo Bishop, leaving the path open for both of the remaining political parties to surpass each other. They were, namely, the New York Jet Fanatics Progressive Party and the New York Jet Fanatics Oligarchial Party.

Phillip Greenwell immediately set out to make a name for himself, and quickly proved himself as a raving lunatic. However, he somehow was able to attract a band of followers who were just as stupid. By the year 2373, Greenwell's political backers were running amok all across New York Jet Fanatics in order to attempt to elect Phillip Greenwell as head coach. By this point, the vast majority of the country saw him as a madman. He received approximately .03% of the national vote at that time.

The Greenwell Administration

The Race for Election

Seeing that his tactic had failed utterly, Greenwell decided to argue his positions in a debate format. In these debates, although his arguments were usually extremely obscure and either totally irrelevant or totally contradictory, he argued with such emotion that he earned quite a bit of respect from the people of New York Jet Fanatics. He became so charismatic with the more conservative side of the population that it is believed that he drained so much of the Oligarchial vote in the year 2375 that he propelled the Progressive candidate, Howard Langressanne, to victory.

He continued his strategy after that, and it proved to be just as successful. In the year 2377, he was elected as Head Coach of New York Jet Fanatics in a landslide.

Financial Policy

Financial Policy in 2377-2379

Greemwell immediately proved his idiocy with his financial policy. In fact, his first action was to raise interest rates to 73%. The consequences were evident almost immediately. Many banks declared bankruptcy, and many people went hungry. Still, Greenwell claimed it was good for the economy that the lack of economic change was a good thing. He subsequently placed restrictions that made it as difficult to purchase foods and other goods on the free market as possible. Every sane economist was outraged, but some economists were so angry that they became insane and argued that it was beneficial for the economy. Somehow, the people bought it and reelected him in 2379.

Financial Policy in 2379-2383

The next move Greenwell made was to do everything possible to fetter market economics for basic products. He claimed that, "Real Economic stimulus comes from the exchange of expensive goods, such as cars. Food and other products under J$2,000 are too cheap to be important to the economy." He used this ridiculous argument to justify the immediate ceasation of all imports under J$2,000. As a result, the country stopped importing food and people starved. The previous system had assigned a priority system for shipping to all cities. As it was, most of the cities received the same type of foods, which were malnutritive. However, there was not enough surplus food to ship to the city of Xarraong after November 2381. As a result, the people in and around Xarraong received no food, and therefore those that could afford to leave did so. (Greenwell made transportation almost impossible by establishing exuberant fees and tolls) The remainder, and majority of the population in Xarraong starved to death. The city was gone, in three weeks, covered with rotting bones and flesh. After this catastrophe, even those who had previously been most faithful to Greenwell became outraged at his fiscal policy. The vast majority of economists suddenly regained their heads and pointed out the massive flaws in Greenwell's policy. Greenwell lost control almost immediately, as his offensive coordinator, Brandon Rodillo took over and prevented any further damage from occuring. Greenwell was defeated in a landslide by the young, uprising Keith E. Guuchueb of the Progressive party when the next election came around in 2383.

The horrors of Greenwell's economic policies became later known as the Xarraong Disaster.
